Recommended Posts

I have a gs300 its got 17 inch wheels off a different model but has anyone done any hardcore mods?

eg

fitting the v8 engine

engine mapping

uprated brakes

is there a manual box that will fit the 300

or is it the sort of car that no one does anything to?

Not sure with the GS300 I know the LS400 can be fitted with the Toyota Supra 4 pot big brake setup, Unless you can get a MINES ECU not a lot of cheap tuning for the V8. Some have converted the V8 to a manual transmission.

Nothing major done to my GS430 Sport, just subtle stuff. Too expensive in the main, but I am looking at Supercharger and Turbo options at the moment rather than swapping to other marquee performance models (BMW M5, Merc CLS55). A bit of quandary really. Spend £5k-£6k on a £2k car, that later may sell for £2k, or buy a £10k-£12k ar that is worth £10-£12k later (less depreciation). The only draw to mod'ing the Lexus instead is exclusivity, but an expensive pill to swallow none the less.

keeping the smoke in the wires.

You mean convert the gs300 to a V8? It would be easier to buy the V8 version wouldn't it or are you thinking about a specific V8 other than the 3uz?

you can change the v8 to a manual with something like r154 which is the supra box you'd just need to buy a decent manual adapter

check out thor racing they offer deals on stuff like that

anything can be done providing you throw enough money at it

the remapping side of things on the newer models cant really be done because of how heavily canbus'd the ecu is

even running a piggy back ecu probably wont work because it will throw up so many errors and things.

By the time you buy the V8 lump and ancillaries, it would probably still be cheaper to sell your GS300 and buy a GS430. The V8 is awesome in the GS B)

dont want to be an arse or anything but a hell of alot of work required to drop a new engine in and new box and transfer plates etc

all for 300bhp?

to turbo it is about £5k little bit excessive. £9k for a super charger.

(just rough figures i found when looking)

with all the cash you would spend doing it you could get like an m3/impreza/skyline etc

just my 2 pence worth

its not all about the money

its about having something different something you have done/helped with solving problems/making parts etc

its the highs and the lows its hard to explain

ive done a few engine conversions mk1 escort v8 rover, jaguar with transit diesel Bedford rascal van with a bike engine and a red top engine into a corsa

Omega,

I totally agree regarding its not about the money, to be different, for the hell of it, that kind of thing, hence why I fancy turboing mine. What I'm not quite getting is why a Lexus GS v8? It's not anything different, Lexus already did it from the factory, so don't quite see what it is proving with all that hard work to do it to a GS300. Good luck if you go for it though, it will still be an achievement :)

Not sure why you want to reinvent the wheel when Lexus already has a V8 model? you might aswell get the 430 which adds just over 60bhp agaisnt the 300 and see if you can source a manual box for it and uprate things like brakes, suspension and fit an LSD. or alternatively get an Aristo
