  1. I like the styling but fair point about the rear. It's fat and square and the worst bit of the car from an aesthetic perspective.
  2. Hi Paul How about an NX? I've just swapped to one from my RX. Not quite as quick as an IS but plenty of space which I'll need when it's the youngest's turn for uni. Chris.
  3. On likes can I say all of it? Well most of it. I've had my two year old NX for two weeks now and love it. Likes: Being able to have all my music on a USB drive and select an album etc by voice. The 360 camera for getting round the kink in our drive and into the tight garage. The card key. It's much less bulky in your pocket. Dislikes: Having to wait a couple of minutes before being able to browse or select music by voice each time you start the car. The music not muting for Sat Nav voice guidance. The connection for downloading routes from My Lexus seems a bit hit and miss. Oh and it's so slow compared to my old RX400h. Wait that's four, I can't have that.
  4. I switch to Bluetooth and manually play Amazon Prime videos from the app on my mobile and the audio comes through the car speakers OK. It is Android though...
  5. It's OK, it's not a mid life crisis unless you get a Porsche :-) Our eldest daughter is more cynical about marketing than me cause she works in marketing... and maybe she's a victim too: She'd like a CT. It would be interesting to know the actual demographics of the people who buy each model. I suspect there are more 50ish owners of NXs than the marketing suggests, and Lexus hopes, cause of the cost.
  6. I just replaced my RX400h SE (that I'd had for 6 years) with an NX300h Premier with panoramic roof. I must be young and urban? Or a 49 year old victim of marketing... Anyway I love the NX. It's so slow compared to the RX once you get above about 40 but apart from that it's pretty impressive. Ok so there are a few odd things like the stereo not muting for the sat nav voice. Why, when a ten year old Lexus manages this? One question: I have a 64gb usb drive with 36gb of music. (Yes it's formatted as FAT32.) Each time I start the car it takes a minute or two before the browse button (or selection by voice) is enabled. Do others have the same problem? Or do I just need to try something else like a different usb drive...
  7. Which makes me wonder if we'll be able to buy the facelift part and it'll fit an older nx.
  8. It looks like the QI charging tray has been enlarged from that top video.
  9. I just swapped from an RX400h to an NX300h with pan roof... then remembered that I used to hold onto the RX's roof bars while washing the roof up a step ladder on my steep drive. I guess I'll be falling off ladders now. Anyway you used to be able to get generic roof bars that clamped into the top of the doorways. No idea if you'd find any that would fit an NX though.
  10. That small grill at the side of the front bumper looks awful. Why a light grey bit of plastic?
  11. Thanks. Salesman said that the powered tailgate couldn't be opened by hand.... perhaps to get me to just buy an NX I was looking at which didn't have the convenience pack.
  12. On my RX400h the powered tailgate can also be opened and closed manually. This is handy if you're parked close to a wall or in a multi-story with a low ceiling. Is the manual option possible on the NX?
  13. I've had an RX400h for 6 years and driven an RX450h several times as a courtesy car and once as a hire car while mine was having some dents knocked out. The RX400h is slightly faster and has a sportier exhaust note. I prefer the touch screen over the stupid control thing on the RX450h. The RX450h is slightly bigger (which is a problem for me with a narrow drive/garage), smoother/more refined and has a less obvious transition between petrol and electric. It also gives you two or three more miles to the gallon. I forget what else but for me personally I preferred the RX400h in some ways and the RX450h in others. The RX450h is obviously newer and one day I might upgrade if I can squeeze it in the garage but there was nothing that made me desperately want one over my RX400h.
  14. Maybe they're trying to create the image that it's fast like a lambo..... but it's not even fast like a lexus.
  15. Hello Mr Whittaker

How are you? I see someone beat me to the unsticking. Mind you I don't do much moderating these days. How's the CT doing? I'd normally have changed my car by now - I've had the RX400h for 5 years but have lots of things we want/need to spend money on with the new house. Also struggling to think of a suitable replacement. The RXS450h is a bit bigger and might not fit in our garage, the NX is a bit too new/expensive and doesn't get great reviews on performance/economy from owners. With Beth at uni and Hannah following soon having the boot space of an SUV is rather handy. Tempted to look elsewhere next but then Lexus is brilliant for reliability, comfort etc.

  16. I read something recently somewhere with some thoughts that the next version of the RX was likely to be slightly larger and that there might be a 7 seater version too.
  17. It was a straight 6 that was actually lovely and smooth, but recently I found myself in someone's Volvo V60 4-cylinder diesel and it sounded like a bus, just horrible. Getting back into my old LS was like stepping from the third world into Bill Gate's conservatory. Plus, I do thousands of miles cycling each year and increasingly find that diesels stink to high heaven. I hate the smell; the sooner diesel becomes obsolete, the better. I had a diesel V60 as a courtesy car when mine was crashed into last. I thought it was awful until I had a Nissan Patrol which was much noiser and awful in so many other ways. It made me appreciate the quiet smooth hybrid.
  18. So how does that work then? The system uses the electric motor less at first to get the petrol engine up to temperature. I do a few short journeys to take kids places that I would walk in 10-15 minutes if it was just myself. They're the ones that hammer the fuel consumption, especially when the weather is cold. Longer journeys around town, especially on the flat are the ones that are really good for fuel consumption. When I take one daughter to the stables the car will do most of the 3 mile return journey on electric. Current tank is showing 30mpg at the moment. That's a mix of approx 200 miles of A road and motorway + 100 miles of town driving. Also if you're just looking for fuel economy then a fast, heavy luxury SUV is never going to be the best option. You'd be better off with something smaller and/or using newer hybrid technology, eg the CT or new IS. The RX is way better on fuel consumption than some of the alternatives though, eg a v8 range rover sport.
  19. I could get 37 if I pushed it off a cliff. Never got anywhere near that on any journey. "A" roads taking it very careful I can get 33 but 31 is more likely. Usually it's more like 28 with mixed journeys. Short journeys round town where it's not getting properly warmed up 24-26.
  20. Ditto. I've owned mine 3 years and it's now 6 years old and all it's needed aside from the servicing and warranty work is brakes and tyres. Oh that plus several repairs from people driving into it while parked cause its too small to see.
  21. I used EBC green stuff pads on my IS200. They stopped well and didn't give off as much dust as the standard pads.
