  1. Thanks for the post. I'm thinking of getting mine painted darker when I get them refurbished so it was useful to see what they look like. Did you remove the logos from the centre caps by melting the blob of plastic at the back with a soldering iron?
  2. Info button under screen, then tap on first icon top/left on screen (something like trip info). Can't remember if that or energy view comes up first. Use the button bottom/left on screen "Consumption"/"Energy" to toggle display.
  3. Has anyone found some anti-theft number plate bolts suitable for an RX400h? I bought some from Halfords and found that they were screws while the RX uses bolts so they were too small. The front number plate was stolen from the hire car I used while my RX was being repaired recently. I don't want to have the same problem with mine. Hopefully lightning won't strike twice in the same place but given how things have been going with my car I'm not taking any chances.
  4. I have a diesel Nissan x-trail to drive while my RX is getting its bumper put back together. It seems bigger on the outside than the RX, but smaller on the inside! You couldn't call it a refined diesel, it sounds like a van. And very plastic and budget inside. Despite what must be a small Diesel engine to make it so slow it's thirstier than the bigger engined RX. It's easy to forget how different a Lexus is until you can't drive yours. Looking forward to getting mine back.
  5. I've had my car keyed three times over the last four years. Last time was august. Since then it's also been hit by a sandwich van, articulated lorry and ford puma, all while parked. I need a bigger car so it's easier to see.
  6. Mine seemed worse after the recall too, 24mpg down from 28mpg. Mind you my journeys have changed recently and so has the weather so perhaps that's a factor. I've done the reset this evening so I'll see if that helps.
  7. I'd have rejected it on this one alone. I don't understand why people still smoke these days given how much is known about the health problems. Add to that the fact that you, your car, your house and your kids will smell... I had the same problem finding a good example of an RX400h when I was looking. I guess cause of the type of car it's likely to have frequently been loaded up with kids, dogs, leisure equipment etc. Most of the ones I viewed at main dealers had quite a few scrapes inside and out. I ended up travelling to get mine.
  8. I wonder if they'll remember to put a middle seat in the rear this time.
  9. I don't like the touch screen. I had an RX450h for about 3 weeks last year while my car was being repaired and I prefer the touch screen on my RX400h. The mouse seems to distract more while driving. With the touch screen one jab at the screen and I'm done, no fiddling around trying to get the pointer in the right place. I had been intending to buy an RX450h about now but for various reasons, including the fact that in some ways the RX400h is better I've decided to hang onto it for longer.
  10. At 5 years old my cars battery died. The car took three attempts to start one day and a few days later wouldn't start at all. I thought I'd get a better rated silver or chrome battery for cheaper at halfords. Beware. The £102 chrome battery the shelf guide said was right for an rx400 didn't fit in the gap. When I went back for a refund they did a search on the till and said that it was a custom order for the rx and would be £165. I went over the road to Lexus and they had one in stock, charged £120 fitted (halfords were going to charge £7), and offered free car wash and coffee.
  11. From the interior photos it look's like they've used the awful mouse control thing that they've got in the RX450h. The touch screen approach seems much easier and safer.
  12. I recently had an RX450h for a week after someone drove into my car in my client's office car park. I was expecting to find the RX450h better in lots of small ways but oddly found that my RX400h seems better in some ways. There were a few missed opportunities on the RX450h design too like the omission of he driving mode dial used on the CT200h. Here's what I thought in case anyone is contemplating the move up from 400 to 450. I'm not so keen now. Will probably keep my 400 longer. Against RX450h Styling boring (but smart) compared with RX400h. Slower! Quieter, which is kind of nice but I like the sound of the RX400 when pushed hard. Eco mode on/off fiddly on steering wheel button. Why wasn’t CT200h style dial used? Prefer RX400h touch screen over new mouse style navigation. No audio display if audio not selected on touch screen. Passenger temp buttons hard to find because of swept dashboard styling. Display changing on set cruise control is a pain. Is there a folder up/down button for MP3s? No wired aux in? No sunroof For RX450h Pool lights Keyless entry and smart start Auto fold in/out wing mirrors Seat moving in/out on seat belt/start Quieter Smoother LED interior lights Reversing sensors with camera 3d sat nav view nice Bluetooth connection for MP3s Slightly better economy (30ish vs 28ish) Bigger boot Single rear mat covers centre of floor Bottle holders in front door pockets
  13. Awesome care isn't it?! :) Given that it works when you use the steering wheel stalk it sounds more like a problem with the button on the centre console. I'm guessing that both would go via the same fuse.
  14. It's worth looking back at the mileage recorded on service and MOT documents to see how many miles a year you really do to make sure you aren't paying for extra.
  15. It seems to make scrolling the pages very slow on my laptop. Ok on a more meaty desktop PC though.
  16. It'll be nice to have mine back and without the wobbly go faster stripe. Think if I'm not careful the CT is going back with a few cms scraped off the bottoms of the front doors though...
  17. Ok its not a sensible comparison as they are very different cars but having owned an RX400h for over a year I now find myself with a CT200h for a week which is interesting. (Some moron keyed 3/4 the length of my RX so it's having a £2,000 repair at my friendly local Lexus bodyshop.) I like the CT. It's like a little cocoon and fairly comfortable apart from the harsh ride and difficulties getting the manual seat adjusted right. Handling is really good but it's so slow, small and basic. Perhaps if I bought one which actually had cruise control and electric seats then I could live with one. I must admit to being half tempted to get one someday. Not sure it'd cope with a boot load of luggage for holiday or three people in the back for a long distance journey though. The fuel consumption is a definite plus. I managed 72mpg for one very careful 16 mile journey. Mixed driving I'm just getting 55mpg but its still better than the 28-33mpg that my RX manages. Has anyone tried the move from RX to CT permanently?
  18. The Range Rover Sport 5.0 v8 has similar performance to the RX400h (0-60 in 7.6 seconds) but only does 20mpg
  19. Don't let go? :) Seriously, I've not really noticed this although I do find the steering affected a lot by the camber and by torque steer when I accelerate hard. Perhaps worth getting the wheel alignment checked? Hmmm not noticed this at all but there again I rarely listen to AM. Wish it had digital as I listen to UCB a lot. Mine doesn't do this so dunno Wow that's good. I think the best I've managed is about 32mpg.
  20. I get 28mpg from mixed driving. That's a tank average from the trip computer though. Careful long distance and I can get 31mpg. I think if you are looking for an economic car then the RX400h isn't it. If you're looking for a large, comfortable, practical, fast car that doesn't have awful fuel consumption then it's a strong contender. I've had mine for a year and love it. I can't see why I'd ever want to change it, but I probably will before the warranty on the hybrid drive ends. Most likely next car is a RX450h :)
