  1. :) nothing at the moment, but you never know... I find myseld more handy than is an average serviceman... It doesn't mean that I am so good, but life thought me that the others are mostly lazy bastards...
  2. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=68646
  3. is there also how to remove the dashboard, central console, side pillars, rear seats, front seats, steering wheel etc?
  4. in my IS you do not need to have aircon in auto mode, you can let only fan on (even switch AC off), and in cold days it idles on 1200. In summer it does not do it. But I agree that 1200rpm idle is highly untypical for diesel engines.
  5. if you heat the engine up before the drive and cool it afterwards, it makes no problem for the engine. but clutch, flywheel, whole drive train, gearbox (if changing aggressively), brakes - this all is trashed. not to mention what will happen if you end up in the gravel...
  6. I ride trackdays with motorbike and I am sure I will never do that with my car - it is serious trashing there...
  7. I'd start with the toyota additive for DCAT engines. It should clean injectors.
  8. Chuckie let us know pls. Normally it is the dualmass flywheel, which is nowadays problem with all marques with manual gearboxes. And it is an expensive part!
  9. I only guess - it may be the 5th injector. I guess because it happens only on occasions - exactly as 5th injector cleaning.
  10. in 40k service should be: -new engine oil + filter -new differential oil -new AC filter -new air intake filter -new fuel filter EGR clean not included. I reckon you should pay 60-90 minutes of work + some cleaner
  11. IS220d has the MAF sensor. anyway, ~1200rpm on idle vs ~800rpm is normal. Engine goes automatically to 1200 on colder days until it warms up. Why? I don't know, perhaps to save the world :)
  12. it makes sense what you are saying. I took 5w-30 simply because that is the manufacturer's recommendation. Only because of that. I do not use power too much, don't do trackdays etc, so for me it is enough.
  13. well, the flywheel has some lifetime. The less you stress it, then it has longer lifetime. If you change with no noise, I am sure it makes no stress to flywheel. If you change with the noise, there is some stress. I am not able to estimate, how serious is such a stress. I'd say - get used to change gears without noise and then don't care :)
  14. have you measured, if the car charges properly? if the jump start is fine and charging is correct, than it must be the battery. The output voltage may look fine, but most likely the capacity is decreased. 220d needs really lot of energy to start. I had to change my battery after 4 years.
  15. I've had some noise when changing from first to second since new. So preferably find newer car for comparison. Anyway, I think that clutch can not be noisy. More likely it would be the flywheel. (dual mass = hefty price tag) Try to use the pedals more sensitively...I can change with noise and without it, it needs some practice.
  16. engine: MOBIL 1 ESP FORMULA 5W-30 differential: MOBILUBE 1 SHC 75W-90
  17. I would like to blank it but the result of my research is that it is not easy at all. Bloody technicians in toyota somehow managed to controll the flow of exhaust gases, som when you blank it, after 5-10 minutes it will go to limp mode. :tsktsk: It must be deactivated in the ECU software, which is possible but toyota/lexus won't do it, and I will not let "somebody" to play with it... but give it a try, may be you will find another possibilities. It would be definitely the best to switch it off.
  18. it is a bent tube which you have to bend :) or remove from other side. Anyway I did it now, I bend the tube in the wavy part - I still doubt it is correct method, but once in 60.000kms I find it OK. My egr was not very dirty (as also the mpg shows). Only this I was able to get out of the valve. The manifold was also bit dirty, but the hole was not covered with dust at all. I haven't had premium diesel for 40.000kms... so my advice is - rev! don't use 6th on your highways (with long box). Try to stay over 1.800rpm on 4th, 5th and over 2200rpm on 6th.
  19. I am bit afraid of bending the tube... are you sure this is the right procedure?
  20. as mentioned, it is above the rear differential on the LH side. You have to remove the housing.
