  1. you do not need to use 6th, if it does not suit your speed... BTW IS220d has very long all gears - when comparing for example with Audi A4 2.0tdi - 5th gear on IS is as long as 6th on Audi. So audi driver has his 6th from 60mph and he can not go on higher gear, but you have still this possibility - for example when going 85 as somebody mentioned. Nothing will happen to the gearbox if you will never use 6th. truth is, that these figures are a dream. I can have 39.8 urban, but only on saturday night. I can have 58.9 extra urban, but it must be at least 50kms in a row with warm engine and driving like miss Daisy... Btw, bmw330i has combined consumption 38mpg. Do you think it is achievable? They all lie. Local Yoke - consumption will improve with increasing mileage, but forget about figures from A6. Why? Emmissions and weight of the car.
  2. they are not, however the customer care is fine. On the other hand, I have heard many complaints on the dealership, were I am satisfied. we can not choose, and with acquisitions of marques it will become worse. I think that quality in car industry has its upside downs, same as economy growth. Once you are down, once your up. Opel, VW, PSA were very bad in past years and now it looks they are improving a lot.
  3. and it is better with other marques? on the other hand, I can find you heaps of dissatisfaction examples for each marque. The thing is, that japanese cars are still the most reliable.
  4. they told me the same in service, however the cd I've got with the car says something else - 5y or 150.000kms, if I remember correctly.
  5. it is robotic gearbox (similar as SMG) but with two clutches. One clutch operates gears 1,3,5 and the other 2,4,6 There is ECU which estimates your next gearchange, so while you are accelerating, say on 2nd, 3rd is ready and when right time comes, clutch holding 2nd disconnects and clutch holding 3rd conects. Now clutch with 2nd has plenty of time to swich to 4th and when time comes, again just clutches exchanges their activity. So if ECU estimates correctly, it shifts VERY quickly. However, it is quite complicated and as was mentioned, it is way expensive if problems occur (us usual with complicated things)
  6. AFAIK there is no change in the engine itself, but the final ratio has changed. Standard ratio is now between old sport and nonsport ratio. 6th is as long as the one on 320d, so I think it is usable in UK.
  7. yes, that is all true, but... At the moment people tend to look for moving objects - this is applicable for all users of public roads and pathways (drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians...) - and exceptions do not make a problem - e.g. motorcyclist with their lights on. But what will happen, if all cars and trucks will have their lights on? First, there will be no advantage for motorcyclists. Second, people will get used to it and won't anymore look for moving objects, but they will look for moving lights. Pedestrians and cyclists riding on public roads will be in higher danger. There are countries in europe which have compulsory lightning all the time and the statistics say that the number of pedestrians and cyclists accindents has risen. In other words, every object without lights will be in higher danger. Instead of teching people drive carefully, politicians make out of people the flocks...
  8. What exactly is the point of DRLs? I've never personally found them to do anything useful. Actually find it annoying on cars with orange ones, as at first glance it looks as though the indicator is on.........I have no idea why that isn't illegal........ I think it is the eco-terrorist work. to have normal lights on means front, back and all interior lights on, which rises the consumption by 0,00000005%, so it makes more CO2 in the air... I do not see the point to have lights on during the day, but in Slovakia it is compulsory too.
  9. Thanks for your reply. The Mars Module, does this give you DRL's then or does it switch all of the lights on, eg dash lights and rear lights? yes, it switch all standard lights on (no DRL). I don't know any website, I just know that this is original lexus/toyota part.
  10. ask lexus dealer for Mars modul, it will start your normal lights about 5sec after the start. I am using it for 2,5 years and no problem so far. It costs about 200€ incl. fitting and you do not need to any wiring etc (what may cause problems, as the car uses can-bus)
  11. you know, bmw has the best diesel engines in the market and probably also the best 6pot petrol engines. To be the best doesn't mean to be the cheapest, in other words, they want heaps of money for their perfection. You pay, you do the math. I did, and I did the comparison with 320d, which I tested, as I did with IS220d. In day to day life, I would get 0,5-1,0l better consumption per 100km with the bmw. In your oldstyle measuring methods it means that at the moment I am with IS220d on 41,9, with beemer I would be on 45,5-49,5 - which I doubt but OK, let's to do the math with the worst case. The difference in money means I would pay at worst 1 € extra per 100km. When I was buying my car, the difference with 320d was about 10.000 € (talking about the same equipment level) If I bought 320d, I would have to drive 1 milion kilometres, just to equal the ownership and running costs. But, as I lease the car and I have insurance, I would be paying about 25% extra on interest and also I would be paying extra for the insurance, because it is more expensive car and it is being more often stolen - so even after 1milion kms I wouldn't be on even. Of course, you can buy bmw without the toys and gadgets and you will be on equal price from the beginning. The question is, do you want premium car to be in luxury and feel luxury or you want just look good in front of your friends and neighbours? The competition in family sized cars is now very strong, with cars as mondeo, new C5, mazda 6, insignia, accord... if you want to save every penny, why did you buy premium car? It is your money, your choice, but I guarantee you that with 325d you won't save nothing.
  12. FYI the left pedal in your car is clutch and by pressing it you would prevent this ;-)
  13. it looks horibble :duh: the only thing I'd change is the rear indicators for white
  14. what brand and type of tires are they? I use pirelli sotto zero, however for winter I switched to narrower, because narrower is better on snow and ice - I use 205/55/16 In comparison with summer tires (bridgestone re050 - 225/45/17 & 245/45/17) are the winter tires quieter.
  15. I don't think it is so hot. The parts are very cheap (for lexus/toyota) and the work expense is carried by the dealerships.
  16. I have received the letter for steering recall yesterday. It was registered mail, so they are very carefull.
  17. that is the reason, why they won't sell it in europe. people here are not crazy enough...
  18. I did the headlamp washers mod and it doesn't help (anyway, without this mod, the washer activate only every 3 or 5 washings)
  19. I have 7kms to work. This route in summer I can make between 5,5 and 6 ltr/100km, now (-10 in the morning) 7,5-8ltr. That makes 25-30% rise of the consumption. And as you can see on bmw forum, it is normal.
