  1. head gasket is problem mainly of wrong use of the driver. When the engine is cold, and without additional heater is the engine cold for long time during cold days, the headgasket can be very easily damaged when pressing too much on accelerator pedal. In another words, when the engine is cold, the headgasket is not properly pressed between the block and head, and because of very high pressures in the cylinders the headgasket may move.
  2. blue smoke = burning oil. It may be head gasket, also piston sealing rings. Burning the oil may destruct DNPR.

  4. 1950? Jesus :)) Toyota makes me not to buy car from them anymore...
  5. i am also out of warranty, but i don't care. My car runs well, consumption good... occasional smoke does not bother me...
  6. hmm, then apparently the toyota customer care varies according to the country, which is pretty ****ty... such a smoke is in Czech and Slovak republic considered as NORMAL.
  7. Lexus newcastle have sorted my car under warranty, brand new particulate filter i knew it wasn't normal for so much smoke, have to say outstanding service from lexus-newcastle,courtesy car, sorted problem and all it needd was one signature,10/10 newcastle. was is smoking like this one or more?
  8. I reckon the battery was disconected and the windows were not "initialized" you have to put down the window to the middle and then up to the top.
  9. this can be many things. Starting from blocked air filter, egr valve, DNPR, ending with faulty injectors, gasket seal or turbo, broken engine head...
  10. I tow motorbike and no problem. I don't like that my IS can tow only 500kgs when the trailer doesn't have its own brakes.
  11. in UK you have now quite low temperatures, right? One of the possibilities how to lower the temperature point when diesel starts to "freeze" is to add some petrol in diesel. However this is strictly prohibited because direct injected diesels may be destroyed. Do you think it could happen that service stations mixed diesel with petrol on purpose?
  12. dcat doesn't prevent smoke, but is to collect particles. And these have to be burned occasionally= duty of 5th injector. occasional smoke when low temperature is quite common when 5th injector is on - when burning particles in DCAT. I read this on toyota forum regarding 2.2 DCAT 180 engines. This applies also on our engines. My engine smoked like this 2 weeks ago for app. one minute, it was at least 5° below 0. And I certainly know, that I have clean egr, good consumption, and not disappearing cooling liquid. Therefore I am 99% sure that his car doesn't have a problem.
  13. i don't believe yours will put out as much smoke as mine,i have now read that the heads need decoked that is 99% not true, but do whatever you want...
  14. here is the part from the manual http://www.sendspace.com/file/5qlqj9 yes
  15. don't panic, it is on every diesel and everydiesel has problem with it. we should kick some green asses in bruselles..
  16. well I think that supermarket fuel makes 50% of all problems with DCAT engines. It simply needs better quality of the fuel. I am using regular shell diesel. start to checking your coolant fluid level - if it is not decreasing. If not, everything is OK. Try to run on 5th gear on motorway (on non-sport model). You have the car only one week, you don't know who and how was driving it. The DNPR won't start to clean unless the engine is warmed up, so if somebody was doing short drives it may be dirty a lot...
  17. it is quite normal during cold days - the system cleans out the DNPR. If you make couple of miles on motorway, it will clean better and then it won't clean so often in the city. If most of the kms will be done in city, it will be cleaning quite often. But during warm days it is not visible :)

  19. the missing part on second pic is the additional heater (eberspacher). It helps to heat the cooling fluid up in winter times, so I definitely recommend to take it with it if you live in areas with temperature below 5°. For about 700 euros you can enhance the system with remote control, so 15 minutes before driving you turn it on and you sit in warm car ;-) PS: I have been twice in Romania (motorbiking). It is beautiful country.
  20. my winter pirelli sottozeros 205/55/16 are quieter than summer bridgestone r050 245/45/17
  21. I am 1.73m and never noticed this "problem" I do also drive other cars... agree that economy is not the greatest, but this car has 100-150kg more than competitors due to noise decreasing materials. You pay for the silence. gearing it quite high, btw same as in new mazda 6 (except 6th) - nobody complains. Why should they? IS pulls beautifully from 1800rpm until 4500. In which car can you get 60mpg on second gear? it is true, that 6th is unusable, but according to my experience, running 100-130kph is more efficient on 5th and also less noisy. And, the less gearchanges you need, the more comfortable car you have, don't you think? agree, this is bad. but can be sorted for free in warranty. why this annoys you? My experience is, that when cold engine is idling on standard revs (750-800) it is quite vibrating, on 1200 rpm it is more pleasant, although still very bad when comparing to petrol engine of course. I think you have 3 real negative points with this car. You should be happy. Other marques can be much worse!
  22. don't you have the "power heater" button on the lefthand lower side?
