  1. it says that astra doesn't have the keyless feature, which consumes constantly and apparently a lot of electricity in lexus. However lexus should have implemented some controll and switch the keyless off, when the battery voltage decreases to specified voltage.
  2. NOTICE To prevent the battery from being dis- charged, do not leave the audio/video system on longer than necessary when the engine is not running. this is from the manual. regarding the battery - my car also doesn't want to start after 10 days. Quite a shame, but whan can we do...
  3. you don't need to go to the dealer, try yourself first. It is easy. download this one - http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=3800 it's on second page.
  4. the window switches may not be faulty. If the battery has been disconnected, they need to reinitialize. Step by step process is described in the owners manual.
  5. I don't want to continue this diesel/petrol discussion - just for correcting the bias - I am perfectly satisfied and with sensible driving extra urban I easily achieve 51mpg. Almost 4 year average is in my signature and for last two years I tow trailer with motorbike quite a lot...
  6. this is really strange situation. the problem is either in the ballasts or in the bulbs. ask your friend if there is any possibility to measure the ballasts, if they are OK.
  7. is there any chance, that in lexus they did not change the bulbs? because my old bulbs behaved like that and it disappeared after the change. Or those new bulbs are wrong, but it would be strange that both... Also, 90 minutes is way too long for changing the bulbs. 30 minutes would by just enough - but may be the service has more complicated instructions, than necessary.
  8. my car doesn't feel well on 6th under 2k, so I don't drive like that. It is even more noisy (deep sound). I don't think it is worth to risk the flywheel (~3000 €) However if your car goes well on those rews, why not.
  9. I have a 220D sport which happily goes into 6th gear @50 mph. If I set the cruise at 70 I get around 42 to 44 mpg. Set it at 80mph and it drops to 36-38mpg (revs are at around 2300rpm). My advice is not applicaple for sport model with shorter gearbox, of course.
  10. that is not true. no need to play with the bumper. I followed the DIY - it is correct, however access to the bulp, specially from the side where is the screenwash water, is not easy.
  11. After 3.5y with my car I realised interesting thing. Driving 140kph on 5th (2600rpm) is more efficient by app. 0.5/100km than using 6th (2000rpm) I'd say, if you don't go over 160kph, do not use 6th at all.
  12. my car is 3.5 years old with almost 60.000kms and both hids started to go off irregurarly. I replaced both bulps (not ballasts!!!) and it is fine since then. I bought here: http://www.ixenony.eu/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=16&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=55&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1 Somebody in this forum has posted link with these bulbs on e-bay, so try to search. EDIT: specially for you: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=63246 it includes link on DIY change...good luck.
  13. basically I did nothing. I tried to de-mount it. It is fixed on the botton with 2 screws, however it is somehow fixed also from the top, where I could not see how it is fixed. Also, obviously it is not possible to demount it without demounting the steering wheel which I did not want to. So I let it as it is and time will tell.
  14. Hi, recently I have noticed strange sound from the instrument cluster, when starting the car (during the starting "show"). I've realized that it goes from the rpm. It is not disturbing during driving, but I am afraid that it could stuck and damage. As I am not in the warranty anymore, I try first to fix it by myself. Do you know how to remove the cluster? thanks for help.
  15. for snow, winter tire is a must, but it is ideal to have the tires narrow as possible - in this case 205/55/16 so buy rims for this size. it is the best solution. and if you also put 100kgs in the boot, you'll be OK.
  16. this is why I come here once-twice per month. I used to be here twice per day...
  17. it is true that 220d is not the most economical diesel, it is true that is250 is very good and not thirsty package at all, but the 250, when talking about new car, is more expensive, servicing is more expensive, resale value is lower than 220d (at least here) and AFAIK the tax is higher in the UK.
  18. thanks a lot. I wrote to lexus - I think they should fix it for free. If not, I'll do it according the links you pasted. I hope that problem is not in the ballasts.
  19. I have same problem, car is out of the warranty for month or two monkey, could you pls give me ebay link on that german seller. thanks. Guys, did you change the bulps by yourselves? How?
  20. if they will be able to keep the pricing and reliability, it will be a good move. but sofar the pricing, for example for RX450h vs RX350 is so bad, that it is not worth to buy hybrid. (may be it is worth if you get some government tax reduction but I do not agree with this as it doesn't have any reason to spend taxes this way)
  21. exactly. anyway, I also agree that beemer has better engine (to be precise - much more responsive. The consumption difference is not just matter of the engine, but also of the weight difference between both cars) On the other hand, IS is better rounded package. Not just because of value for money.
  22. I wash with pure water on spring, then I wax with turtlewax PTFE. For the rest of the year, I wash with high pressure clean water. Works for me. Car is not 100% clean, but 95% in my eyes (you can see imperfections from 1m), but "washing" takes 10 minutes.
