  1. You can either get a new lcd display from US ebay and solder it yourself. Other option is just get a used unit off ebay or breakers along with used aerial. Don't buy any universal kits off ebay as they are rubbish that rust quickly after fitted and don't sit right on the hole on the rear wing.
  2. A) Shield bits, Leave them off. B) Don't bother with the arms until it's a mot faliure or really starting to clonk.
  3. I've got a very good idea. Why don't people get mechanics to do the timing belt job to avoid faults. The good news is you might have to rip it all apart again to find where the damage lies. The reason the engine ticks over on one sensor is there is a fault and goes into limp home mode and takes the signal off just the one good sensor, When you connect the other then the ECU reads the faulty signal and shuts off the engine. The problem lies with that sensor or cable you may have trapped or damaged when refitting everything. Please don't tell me it's the left hand side one when looking at the engine from the front that cuts out the engine when refitted. DOH.
  4. getting parts for 1999 ls400 is nightmare.soon you'll need exhaust and/or cats[cost you fortune].make sure cambelt has been changed ,otherwise put aside £1500 for replacement engine.car doing just 18mpg on average but can do up to 30mpg on motorways.obviously your car has been neglected if you getting suspension noises. £1500 for an engine. That must be in dollars. £450 in the UK for a V8 engine at most as there's no demend for them as they don't break down. Don't worry about parts until you need them. Just get the noise from the front checked out at a local garage up on the ramp and then come back to us and let me know what they say. Suspension noise is never alot to fix so don't worry about it. If you did need parts then just check your local motor factors(Various), Ebay and a breakers yard.
  5. These one's are rubbish unless you only want the standard colour white. Maplan do other ones in colour but they turn white after about a week or so as they burn out and you'll need to fit a resistor to the car circuit board to control the voltage flow to stop them burning out. You can also get the led ones from ebay US with a little resistor already built in along with the correct plastic holders. This buyer and info is listed in a earlier thread about led backlights earlier this year. They cost around £5 for the full centre dash from the US. I have the full blue dash which is still working as blue as they should for months now.
  6. I found that the blueprint pads are hit and miss on the squeliing front. Have had some that do and some that don't If you have a squealling set of blueprint pads then take them out and have a loof at the surface. If it's all pitted or small hole like on the surface then just get another set as it's normally a bad mix of compound from the makers. I use Apec discs and brake pads now and had no problems since. They are cheap as blueprint to buy.
  7. If you need info of to view or test drive one before purchase then feel free to give me a call. I'm based in Swansea if that's near you. If you need adivce on repairs or even need repairs then feel free to get in contact. Barrie.
  8. Steve just give it a little turn to see if that helps. You'll find it's ok for a few trips but then starts again. The nut is as they say a nats manhood of a gap. It will never fail or fail as an MOT inspection but onlt if the ball joint has play up and down. The gap in question is not enough to cause this failure. I've seen loads over the years. You can get new arms but I find they never sit like the orignals and cause the same problem as the case when fitting new ones on my own car. I just put up with it. There are two more solid cures, but that involes a little more work, But it's just not worth the day doing it when you can just tweek the nut every few months in 30secs. Let me know if that was the problem for you.
  9. Try your local breakers as they have ls400's laying about. Local motor factors would also get them. Sometimes in the afternoon before 5pm if ordered in the morning.
  10. I've sent you an Email with pics of the fitted unit diplaying bbc2(top gear) and also sky sports news channel. I've also sent you the wiring diagrams for the ls400 1990 to 1994. Hope that's the year you have. The surround you get from Ebay USA site. About £15 all in. The double din was also from Ebay. Ebayer seller blacksilvertech. Will loose the rear sib when fitting the unit. There is a way to keep it working off the units but have yet to sit down and work out the wiring. I would say you have to use the rear sub outputs of the new unit and conected them into the factory rear sub wiring. When I do it I'll let you know. If you need anything else just ask. Barrie.
  11. I can't host pics on this site but can email you a pic of my car with a touch screen lcd tv fitted with the surround from US. Just send me a PM with your email and I'll reply asap for you. Baz.
  12. Try searching the site again and find the thread listed below. Ls400 1990-1994 Side Indicators (led) Found them Took me one minute in search to find. And I'll ignore your last replies as I know what I've written on this website. There is further threads mentioning the indicators about fitment.
  13. also i get i slight very occasional (sometimes not for weeks) knock when turning and braking at the same time from the front only does it once, and also the other moving arms seem to be very rusty, so i was wondering if anyone knows where to obtain these for a reasonable price or can the balls be replaced on their own. The noise above braking and turning is proberly your top arm locking nut is lose on the one side. Just tighten both up a little and see if that helps. You can do it on the road. The nut is just above the top of the tyre when you look in.
  14. THIS HAS BEEN COVERED IN FULL ON THIS SITE MANY TIMES BEFORE. Stop searching goggle or ebay and try searching the forum. My car has got the clear side reapeaters and the photo was used on ebay of my car with them fitted. UK Channel Islands seller. They are about £12.99 delivered.
  15. Can't help with the technicalities but I could do with a gear knob thats in good condition. Mine, being a MKIII is plain with no buttons. Be greatful if you have one. Just get it redone at a good bodyshop in classic cars as they will have the leather and guys to do it. You can also get a good used one or just get an aftermarket Napolex one. Few to choose from.
  16. Can you tell me what the feel is on corners to which spring rates. Like was there tyre squeal on hard cornering with a bit of drift with loss of grip. Understeer or oversteer more or less bodyroll on corners between the two spring rates. Did the back inner tyre get up in the air on cornering hard with the full hard set up?
  17. For an extra £80 for a pump change it, No brainer. If you want to pay me £500 to change it later then feel free. As mentioned before piece of mind.
  18. FORTE is what we use butto be honest I don't use them. Your better bet is get the fuel injections clean with an ultrasonic bath. There are firms that do this. The difffernce is massive if the injectors haven't been changed every or over ten years. You'll find the horsepower will return and better fuel and pick up on ovet taking. You only have to check out the TOP GEAR scene when they rolling road a renault and find that just changing the injectors restored all the power to factory spec on the rolling road.
  19. The fluid is leaking on to the alternator. It has now damaged the alternator and will need attention as the car will stop in the next 10 miles with a flat battery. you proberly already have broken down on reading this. As mentioned in the previous thread I have listed your options and prices for this fix. As mentioned in a previous reply from other member you can drive around with wet alternator but it will fail in the end. It might take one day or two years but it will fail. In your case it's already gone, Just put the lights on with radio and good night. The job of changing the alternator is quite straight forward. Drive belt(undo), Two bolts(14mm I think), one electrical clip and one 10mm nut. If you're going to get it out without the car in the air then you have to remove the battery housing, fan surround and undo the top radiator hose, this will allow you to turn the fan surround upright to allow the alternator to come out and slide up the gap along side the radiator.
  20. Phil it's your alternator packing full stop, No need to check anything else. You have few options. Lexus for a new one, USA and import one, Various Motor Factors(£220 - 250 plus Vat) or get a used unit for around £90 with vat from a breaker. You can also get your old unit rebuilt with new internals if got the time for the car to be off the road. Should only take around two days max to be done. There must be a local battery centre near you that do alternator bosch rebuilds. Just ask a local garage who they know.
  21. I take it he was a new starter at Lexus. Changing the central looking is also a lot of bollocks. The guy was taking crap. You only have to change the rear chip in the boot. I used Lexus in Coventry or leicester as I use both, But it was two new master keys cut with a new chip and posted for £173.04 with the Vat included. They also included coipes of how to install the new chip and get it to work with the keys which was nice of them to do.
  22. Only takes 5 mins to get out. Flat screwdriver to pop out the surrounds and a phillips screw driver to get the stereo loose. Pull forward and take a pic.
  23. If you've replaced the battery which is the normal fault with those cars of the one button remote, Than as you have no back up key, Then just order a new key from Lexus. Give them your number plate number and they can send you one already cut. I know he will mention you have to take the risk of the locks being replaced and the cut key not fitting, but If you're sure that the key is the orignal one the go for it. if that then works just order a new oine again or pull the old one apart and see the connections inside.
  24. £400 pounds is bollocks. I paied £170 with Vat for two cut master keys and a new chip for the boot from Lexus Coventry parts for a UCF11 1993 model.
