  1. I had some sort of whining sound in the summer when sat on M3 in traffic for ages. Had AC on and everytime it kicked in got it. Went when gave it a bit a throttle!! Was getting concerned but only seemed to do it when been straining and not driving.
  2. Hope you are enjoying the new car smell still!! Mine has dunlops, though my dads GS300 (V reg) has bridgestones. When I bought mine I did ask, as I wanted bridgestones at the time cos thought they'd last longer. Was told that Lexus approve on Bridgestones or Dunlops so you just get either. Mind you I am glad now I have the dunlops as they are quieter than the Bridgestones. So far am well happy.
  3. Hi Chris, I think you mentioned before that price was £16. Is that for a set of 2 inc. VAT? Also, don't suppose we get a Gold discount on them too?? Ta for you help.
  4. 1. I have an IS200SE Jan '01 and have the same problem, thought it was normal until saw threads saying it is not!! Car has now done about 15k, bought at 6k. Noticed it pretty much from when I bought it (April 2002)! 2. Service due April so will mention it then - and the wheels! 3. Am hoping they will be ok, if not then would be very interested in how this current thread progresses. Good luck everyone!
  5. Good idea. I will be taking my car to Reading for its service in April so will mention it then. So far having service, will ask them for new wheels due to bubbling on spokes, and now new calipers all round. To be honest, when I washed then ages ago I noticed it but thought it may be stone chips or something, didn't think I could claim on warrenty!? Will let you all know what they say. Also might mention that break pedal not as firm as other cars I have had. Have noticed people here mentioning they think brakes are brilliant, so maybe mine are not right?? When first go it, and pads were thicker, when sat there with brakes on, the pedal sometimes starts to sink a bit. Happened all the time, though not so bad now! Also in summer didn't think that air conn was as good as could be! Fan was going mad for ages trying to get temp down!
  6. Cheers for that Chris, Do they come pre painted - the order code posted before, what colour would that be. - soz to be a pain, us simple folk eh!
  7. This would be a wicked little mod as I keep getting a dry smeary spot when washing! Chris - did you manage to get part number and prices? I would need Platinum Ice. Ta all.
  8. Reading told me that the insides will wear quicker than the outsides (usually) as the wheels are tilted in slightly to improve handling!???!?!?! Mine are Dunlop SP9000's (or whatever) and I am very happy with them, wear well, grip well, wet and dry. I have always steered clear of Dunlop before as I thought they would wear quickly due to soft compound? Definately get them again if need to change. (like the tread pattern too :) )
  9. I used Mer polish to get some pretty big scratches off my old car bonnet (left the handbrake off by accident and it rolled into a tree - branches hurt bonnet) - :o :o Give it a nice rub and should be ok. - :D :D
  10. On other cars I have found boiling a kettle works well. Not only can you make a cuppa, but if you pour it on the badge a bit at a time then gently lever the badge it should come off ok. Then used some autoglym tar remover for the glue thats left. Worked a treat. :P
  11. I am pondering over getting these sensors - just wondering how people who have had them fitted, find the beeps, i.e. do they interfere with the lorry type beep on reversing? Once fitted, it would be nice to disable the truck ones and just use the Quanan sensor ones. Is there any way of doing this? Also, how do people find they work, I have noticed that the Lexus ones are 4 sensors and these only 3?! Ta all.
  12. Anyone also notice, pos. more on the silver, that along the back edges of the doors the paint looks thicker? I thought when got my car, that maybe it had been sprayed but I have seen it on others! Maybe they should have it that tick all over! I guess we could all get one of those car nappies, like they have in LA etc! :P ;) :o
  13. I have a 31st Jan '01 IS200 SE in Platinum Ice and although I love the colour, I would say the paint is not as durable as other cars I have had. It does feel/look a very thin coat (mind you panel thicknesses are thin too! - cost cut?) I would be interested to hear the outcome of this. Also noticed that as well as stone chips of bonnet, am getting chips/marks cut into bumber where the plastic on this is soo soft. Andrex would be interested in it I reckon!
  14. In the UK the IS200's have a beep on reverse anyway, I was told its cos its a 6-speed gearbox and people were getting it wrong and going for 1st! Does anyone know if this beep can be disabled? If go for the Quanann system then can then have that beep rather than 2! I saw on the installation piccies (I think) that someone put the display under the radio, has anyone put it anywhere else that looks good? I must admit I dunno if I like the display, doesn't fit with the lovely dash - didn't know you could leave it off and it still work!
  15. You should get the mats etc free, could ask for the sensors free if you are very lucky they might. Accessories are easy to hide in the books so to speak (what Brighton said anyhow) but labour for sensors was not! I got about 200 or so off price plus boot liner for free, which is about £120! Good luck anyway, which I was in a position like you, must be fun buying it new etc. Mine was just over a year old.
  16. When I got my IS200SE from Lexus Brighton, I was told that any more than 3 stone chips on a single panel and the RAC would fail it, requiring a respray for that panel. Under that, Chip Wizard would wield (is that spelt correctly??) their magic. From what a friend (Merc mech.) has said, they are very strict on the RAC pre checks as if when its under warrenty, it comes back due to something that should have been checked, then RAC have to pay ?? I was happy with mine, if yours haven't gone as well then kick the dealer. Lexus advertise the thing enough, you'd think they would get it right.
  17. guitareth - did you have any luck with your wheels yet? Mine have a very similar look to them on the edges of the "spokes". After cleaning the brake dust off them, its plain to see, so will mention it to Lexus Reading when its service comes up. If looks like your wheels are the newer sort anyway, (unless is just the picture focus!) as the whole of the wheels look sprayed. Mine are milled on the edges!! If I manage to find a dig. camera with decent macro lens then I shall try to get piccies. Every time I have called dealers about something, they always say bring it in to have a look. I end up doing 2 trips all the time and its not funny.
  18. I have heard good things about DentWizard and similar, they have a website, www.dentwizard.com then click UK. A friend who used to work for a car dealer (merc!!) has used the one local to them (Bromley) and he has always had good results. I heard that if they didn't get the dent completely out, when they say they can, then you don't pay! Good luck anyway, I have a small dent (self inflicted with a fence post!) on the corner of my rear wing. DentWizard should be coming Tues. to give a quote. Will let you know the cost.
  19. Mines pretty shiny too, though occasionally I give it a quick polish. I have always wondered, is it plastic or metal? It gets very cold as metal might, but then it feels (and taps) like plastic!
  20. I have too noticed similar problem from 1-2 when cold and sometimes 2-3! As someone said, sometimes get a grating of gears too. Which garage did you use then who have 2 more!?
  21. Its my eyes - I have opened them now!
  22. I have a friend that has his own Sign writing business, he may be interested in doing some depending on what you are after. (prices will always be very reasonable)! I take it you mean vinyl signs rather than a sticker? Is that link to the fonts correct as the font looks different? Maybe its my eyes :duh:
  23. Its probably quicker to say what I didn't look at!! I had sort of settled on a second hand Merc C200 Sport (liked the stance!) or a BMW (sorry ) 318SE, but did have a look at the IS200. Found I didn't really have the cash to get one though. After many months of looking and getting used to spending about £14k, and also finding that BMW dealers are useless, 26 yr old wanting second hand BM = don't want to know. Couldn't find a Merc, then thought about the extra kit thrown in for free in the Lexus. Went for a test drive, salesman was very nice. Said try them all out, I can guarantee you will come back and I did. Also mate had a 323i coupe which I loved the 6 cylinder engine note of. Had to have one (6 cyl.) and Bm insurance is a nightmare. I am 110% happy with the baby I have. Some of the dealers are getting a little complacent and don't realise so much that Lexus was built on good car and good customer service. Also went through the usual Audio/VW/Honda/Sccoby/FordAlfa. Wouldn't change it for the world. Only problem is when I want something else - what do I do!?
  24. I have a Jan '01 IS200 SE and I notice a similar 'event'. Mainly when car has not long been started on idle the lights are dimmer, also notice this (even more so) when the rear demist is on, or in summer when the air conn kicks in. Just out of interest, when I look at my dig. mileage readout, the display is brighter on the left side, where ODO or A/B is, then on the right where the miles are recorded. Does anyone else see this? Regarding the original point, I put this down to life, it may dip slightly as demister and lights will load the battery. It should not be excessive though. After a run it should be ok - have only really noticed when engine relatively cold. (sort of makes sense as the oil will be thicker so more resistance in the motor, therefore greater strain etc). All the alternator does is charger the battery. What is the IS200's battery capacity? Have you also noted what the Battery Voltage meter does when your lights dim?
  25. Did they replace them with reconditioned wheels (painted all over) or new ones, which have the milled bit on the front. Dunno which I would prefer really. Some of the IS's I have seen in show rooms have had ones which are not milled on front - look a bit more like the GS series ones then! Bit too smooth maybe for the lean and clean cut IS!
