  1. if the car is still under warrenty then just take it in. Lexus are usually pretty good and will investigate under warrenty. If no problem then wont charge, and if there is and its not covered, will advise you of the cost. Mine had been in years ago several times about the brakes with no charge.
  2. thats not good. Probably changed the plates by now, otherwise could have used the ANPR system to search for it! Where abouts in S.London, my brother in law is a copper in Croydon area.
  3. a while ago (few years!) some people on here said these people were good. GL Coachworks
  4. I guess if you really wanted it silver you could vinyl wrap it!! ;)
  5. Most I put in was about 68.5 or so - had a pants moment on M25 thinking I wasn't gonna make it off but turned out OK :) I guess the problem is that a lot of crud could block the fuel filter and therefore restrict the fuel flow?
  6. umm, just thought that it might lead to a belt slipping if not toothed type????
  7. Anyone able to confirm this? For the front pads, do the mintex ones have the little holes drilled in the sides where the spring clips go? Plus, did you get money back from seller?
  8. I presume that turning the adjuster on the drum clockwise will "tighten" it and anti clockwise will "loosen" it? Just wanted to check.
  9. Nice one, looking good. Personally, I am not so sure about the rear spoiler (mainly due to the additional length)! The standard sport lip spoiler looks the nicest I think. But, glad you like it all. Car is looking very nice indeed. Hope you manage to get the right setting, sure you will. Rock on, so to speak :)
  10. Dont spray WD40 on the belts, just in the area by the water pump or behind the pulley so it can run in and onto bearings etc.
  11. umm, could be the actual sensor thats at fault?
  12. Belts look fine to me. I know these engines do sound a bit tappety if its a fairly fast tap rather that a rattle. Couldnt really tell too much from the video. In a way, sounded a bit bearingy - but don't want to panic you with that as could just be thats how it sounds with bonnet open and cover off - I havent listened to mine to be honest. Top up the fluids and see how it goes, also the power steering fluid - check its level. If the oil that was put in was a thinner type then tappets etc will be a little louder, but nothing to worry about.
  13. I have same problems, have a 2yr old now and if have another, then the IS200 will probably have to go. Reasons are: 2001 (X) doesn't have Isofix so pain to get a decent car seat that fits properly - due to buckle crunch problems as rear seatbelt section for clip is too long - seats are also a bit to sloped backwards. Rear leg room - I am near enough 6ft3 and wifey is around 5ft10/11 and I will not be able to put 2nd car seat in rear behind my seat. Boot space - not too bad, but not great either. You can cope but depending on the buggy you go for - its clever packing time! Running as 3rd car (for me as wifey has a polo - crap on space too!) - expensive! Could get a bigger small car for her which would fix all in, but then when going on holiday etc would be tight and still couldnt use mine!
  14. How about between the IS and the Toyota Avensis? I noticed once that the interior indicator stalks looked very similar!
  15. was it easy to get the inner boot linings out without breaking the clips? Also, do you need to get the tracking done after doing the rear shocks? I have to do mine at some point as one has been leaking!
  16. Sounds like a real bummer. Interesting story though. I am thinking that at somepoint soon will have to do all my discs and pads and was gonna get mintex ones like you have. But now thinking maybe that selling is no good? Keep us updated on how that goes. I would just get new discs from Lexus, keep the pads as they are ok. BTW - for the front pads, do the mintex ones have the little holes drilled in the sides where the spring clips go?
  17. Right, sorry for the delay in replying but I have been off work the last week to do my ensuite! The other weekend I took apart the front brakes on my IS200 and my dads GS300 to replace the pins/boots etc. All went well, surprised to see that none of the pistons on my dads car were stuck or that the pins were that stiff - all looked well greased still. With mine, although I had knackered dust boots on my car, from the last time I freed it all (around 2 months ago), all was still looking well. The rubber bush on the bottom pin on the near side was completely gone so god knows where that went! Anyway, both cars now have new pins etc on the fronts and all seems well. One thing I also decided on looking at was the rears on mine - and thank go I did. I think the pistons are ok, but the pins/pads were rusty as hell. Had to take caliper off completely and hammer the pads out as the pads was corroded into the caliper housing. Also means that the inner side mainly of the disk is rusty and pitted so I guess I will have to do them at some point. So what I would also advise is that people strip and clean the rears as well as the fronts. The pin that keeps the pads in was mega rusty on mine. Also had to clean up and de-rust the caliper where the pads seat and also the pad backings themselves - mainly on the edges. Little use and lack of maintenance probably caused this!
  18. I am not sure I agree with the statement that they shouldn't need any other servicing as sliding caliper arrangements are prone to seized pins and therefore should have them service anyway. I would guess every year strip pins and clean them, then check the piston movement, if one looks slow, then free up. Any more than that and as you say, its overkill.
  19. I still think its more likely for the pins to stick - but maybe you wont notice that as much as a sticking piston? I would say the pins will get gunked up quicker and therefore require cleaning regularly - say once every 6 months or a year. Will be taking mine back out tomorrow so will see how they have faired over the last 2 months since they were last out! Got new parts this time - beware, the total is £50 odd for all the pins, bushing, boots etc so not that cheap! One of my boots is split too which is not helpful!
  20. umm, was my bottom one too!! Wonder why? There was a good picture quide on refurbing the caliper but I cannot find it for the life of me.
  21. Could be duff fuel - you wont notice that much of a difference between optimax and normal so doubt its the different octane rating. Resetting ECU might help things. Or could be a blocked injetcor?
  22. Lexus charge a fixed £299 for timing belt replacement - doubt that will include the idler etc though. Your Honda guys would easily be capable though. Just buy the kit for around 120 and get the idler etc and they will do it no problems.
  23. Common across the board as use similar sliding caliper designs! :( What caliper did you buy, BTW?
  24. I can't be sure, but I would presume that the shocks would be the same, but the springs were lower (for the sport model) - Mat would probably know for sure, or Chris S? Ho hum, guess we will never know for sure unless we can get someone from Lexus on here who knows - or maybe Ormi would be able to find out?
  25. When I spoke to them he said they were usually Aisin or EBC that they got in. Fair point, his may be brand new parts from these companies if they make original calipers for the IS, but all the others I listed don't, they refurb them.
