  1. I was tootling along the other day and I thought to myself "I wonder if it would be possible to upgrade the battery to one with higher capacity so it switches over to ev mode more". A quick Google shows that it's possible to convert to a plug in on the Prius. http://www.motherearthnews.com/green-transportation/converting-your-prius-or-other-hybrid-into-a-plug-in-electric.aspx could such a thing be possible in the IS?
  2. I had a 250 for 6 years and over 100k miles. Ditto comments on how bulletproof they are. The only issues I ever had were: front headlamp washer snapped off one winter. The cold snap in 2011 (I think) made the reservoir under the washers expand and the mechanism remained popped out and it snapped off. Managed to find a replacement easy enough though. Catalytic failure. This would have been expensive (c3k parts from Toyota) but I found someone stripping a 250 in Lithuania and got the parts for £100 towards the end I had a persistent error code pertaining to torque clutch control. Perfectly drivable, but would judder now and again ever 100 miles or so from gears 2 to 3. I had that error code for 3 years and it never got bad enough to consider repair. I have to stress that this is very very rare. Apart from that, just tyres. 250s like going through them :)
  3. Quality on my 250 was second to one. It was an 06 plate, came to regass in 2015 and they said there was no point - still on original gas!
  4. Welcome purse. I've had all three IS's an all and I've noticed the mk3 doesn't get anywhere near as icy cold as the other two, maybe I've got the same problem. Glad to got it sorted :)
  5. Have you got these registered in the memory or have you just searched for postcodes? If you haven't registered them in the memory then go: menu memory register previous pick the the one you've found before and you can rename from there. if they're already in the memory then choose edit instead of register
  6. Cheers Rayaan. I've sent the pics to a few people to see what can be done. I had let my old 250 get very shabby on the wheels as I'd wanted to wait until they were on their last leg until I took the dip. Ended up costing alot less than I thought it would so I won't make the same mistake this time around - and whilst the curbing is subtle, I know it's there..!
  7. Someone was blocking the road I was just on and now I've curved one of the wheels!!!! Aaarrrrgggghh!!! Given the wheel type on f sport do Lexus need to touch up or can anyone do it?
  8. I love the XF, but the XE looks a tad odd to me from most angles (front looks a bit too American for my taste). Also the interior doesn't scream premium (IMO) as the Lex does :)
  9. I've mentioned this on another thread, but I recently undertook a long drive from Burton through to Paris and back. I found eco mode a tad counter-intuitive on motorways as to get good economy you should really be getting up to speed as quickly as possible - the long drawn out revs using eco means the engine's working harder to get up to speed. Once you're at speed it really doesn't matter if you're in eco/normal/sport. For me eco makes sense around town as the low speeds don't need a quick change in speed or any really maintenance of speed as it's so changeable around town With a bit of playing about I find the following to get the best performance: Town - eco Motorway - sport into sliproads, normal at roundabouts and cruising. With a fully packed car and 5 people I averaged 50MPG in the UK and 45MPG in France (most M-ways are 130km/hr limit; which I made use of)
  10. Ta :) I've now owned all the IS MK's and I love how some of the styling has taken notes from the first IS. I've always felt the styling on the original IS was beautiful, even after all these years.
  11. I'm on VD12102F. Is this the most current version?
  12. I haven't managed to take some of my own pictures yet. But here's my baby just before I collected her. Only change so far is fitting my private plates and a dash cam I'm toying with the idea of fitting the illuminated scuff plates, but the standard F sport ones seem nice enough at the moment. Next on the list is a spoiler. I want something very subtle, any suggestions?
  13. I realised I've got one complaint. That's the boot hinges. I've had an IS200 and a 250 I the past. the is200 had no casing for the boot hinges so if you packed the boot you had to compensate for the space needed the for hinges when closed. Along came my 250 and problem solved, Lexus had kindly fitted casings for the hinges so you can pack as tightly as you want without fear of the hinges catching on something. Now on the IS300h and Lexus have decided to go backward for some reason. I needed to pack the car with space either side of the hinges to make sure they didn't catch on anything. Slightly frustrating but bearable.
  14. If you've got kids with you, the only annoyance will be the dropping of crumbs :) My V5 arrived while I was away so I'm going to wash/valet with the plates off and put my shiny new plates on. I've been looking forward to washing it since Thursday! In hindsight I think motorway driving is probably best suited to normal rather than Eco as you really do need better throttle response when lorrys pull out without warning and the time it takes to get back up to speed in Eco probably doesn't give you better economy IMO. Played about with the artificial engine noise dial and it's quite satisfying sticking it in sport and turning the dial up when your joining a motorway from the services. Bit of a faff but I enjoy it :)
  15. Morning all, returned last night from a round trip to Disneyland Paris and thought I'd share my findings as I've only had the car a couple of weeks (f sport). we drove down to Dover from Burton via duxford to go to the imperial war museum on Thursday. Mix of Eco and normal mode but easily managed 50mpg with a fully loaded car - 2 adults, 2 children and a baby, also a jam-packed boot. I was pleasantly surprised I managed 50mpg, my only rule was to keep to the speed limit, so 70mph max. 50mpg was equally surprising as driving out of roundabouts I allowed the odd bit of sport mode to get her going (Eco mode + fully loaded car was problematic approaching motorway junctions). decided on that basis to fill up in Dover and see if we could make the round trip to Paris and back on one tank, which I'm pleased to say we did with around 90 miles range on the clock. MPG was averaging 45 in France though as the speed limit is 130km/h on the tolls (85 ish). That was also exclusively normal mode, again with the use of sport to get her going now and again. I was really really pleased with that performance on a fully weighted car :) the road network in France really is superb and made be realise what nonsense we have to put up with in the uk! Oh and the only lane-hogging -tailgating behaviour I saw was from GB plate audis. Made me embarrassed to share the same nationality. Everyone was comfy in the car, even my eldest son who was squished in the middle the whole way.
  16. Incidentally, any idea what a respray would cost if I wanted that colour (Lexus or otherwise doing the work)?
  17. Looks absolutely stunning. I was holding out for an F-Sport to turn up in that colour but I was getting impatient, when you have to have ML and leather in F-sport you have to grab what you can :)
  18. Sorry buddy :) a poor attempt at humour on my part. On on the motorway screen front I managed to get it working. now automatically comes on when on the M-way. Now waiting for a couple of cables so I can use the iPod video out, waiting for the V5 so I can fit my plates and finally, getting the dashcam fitted and I'm all set i was tempted to fit the illuminated plates but the ones that are standard on the F-sport are nice enough.
  19. Interesting. Had a quick search but couldn't find it. Can you remember the title of the thread?
  20. I'm rubbish at keeping April's fools going till midday. I lasted all of 5 minutes this morning after telling my son he had to go to school today. He burst into a psychotic episode, had to tell the poor bugger...!
  21. Found a great one this morning. Before starting up the car press: volume up x2, track down x2 then long press volume down while starting on. Youll now be at a secret menu that gives you access to a setting where you can turn off the requirement to be stopped to play a DVD :)
  22. Brill, cheers for the info. Should be on the motorway next week but the way my cars nimbly sipping the tank I might just drive to the M1 just to do it!
  23. I had a play earlier and it depends what road you're currently on. Without anything set it just shows three options (single, dual and another one) on a dual carriageway a further two options appeared so I'm guessing motorway screen only appears when your currently on one then you can set it.
  24. Little thing, but the mouse returns to a central position when you switch the ignition off. Pleased me anyway! Oh and the music turning itself down if you turn the car off when you're blasting it. When you turn it back on it quickly turns itself down so you don't get a shock I'm sure I'll think of more. Question though: On my 250, when you went on a motorway it automatically showed the motorway screen. Although I haven't been on the motorway since the journey back from picking it up, I seem to remember I had no RHS section with a list of the junctions. Is there an option to change the screen automatically when on motorway?
