  1. Wrong code entered too many times maybe? If so it may be a main dealer only job, or maybe cheaper to buy one from a breakers on ebay (with a code of course!)
  2. Having thought a bit more about Clarksons comments, I'm trying to understand what makes a car interesting. He seems to suggest that quite, reliable comfort is boring. I'm not sure what a car has to do to be "interesting" Breaking down? Wheels falling off? Fat exhaust to make it noisy and a long drive tiring? It can't be power because the LS has that. Or maybe it's "interesting" if like my friends Merc E320 (53 reg) you spend £1400 having a part fitted to the braking system. The only conclusion any sane person can come to is that Clarkson is speaking total Bratwurst! But what's new?
  3. That'll be me next to you in my very, very noisy Vectra diesel, sorry about that! And as for the two stroke scooter things, I was working at someone's house recently and everyday one went past, you could still hear it 10 minutes later, can't stand the things. They're all over the place here in Worthing.
  4. I've also heard good things about Blueprint, and used them myself.
  5. Who cares, it just shows that he's got no taste, and his only interest is Germany, which we've all known for years. Interesting the way he didn't drive it against one of his favourite 3rd Reich chav mobiles. Now that would have been interesting! Much better to look at the 2 early top gear videos of the LS where it comes out top against the others.
  6. I understand what you mean by blacked out windows, however, I was considering having it done on mine so it isn't always cause for concern.
  7. A couple of weeks ago I hit a bump in a gravel drive, and I've noticed a couple of bits still stuck in the front, so I'll be checking that in the morning.
  8. Did you keep any of the bits that were taken off? I didn't think they had a sump guard either. Are you sure you didn't run over a Special Brew can!!
  9. Apparently they fit it for free, and it takes about an hour, no mention of where you go, or if they come to you. And I agree with the post above, it could so easily work against you. They say one other advantage is that it also works as a tracking device if your car is stolen.
  10. Anyone had one of these fitted. My insurance is up for renewal, and one company through Confused.com is offering the best price if I have this device fitted. I thought it was for high risk drivers, not a 61 year old who's never made a claim. Reading the info on it, it detects stuff like acceleration speed etc..hmm. not much point having a V8 if I can't have fun! Not sure it's worth it to save £30 as my premium from direct line is only £261 fully comp. Phil
  11. Same colour and year as mine. I think he means Amethyst Pearl rather then Amnesty Pearl!
  12. A guy where I work bought a red Audi TT, he got his pressure washer out one day and virtually stripped the paint from a front wing. Bad surface preparation I suppose, but taught me only to ever use it on my decking!
  13. Hi Paul. Welcome to the LOC! :D Phil
  14. I may bear them in mind. The guy I use is Lexus trained and he also said replacing the tensioner etc isn't really necessary. Was there no mention of replacing the water pump, and do they do it in a day? Basically they said they would replace what needed replacing, and said they would advise me if anything other than belts needed doing. They did do it in one day, but they preferred me to let them have it for two days, just in case, which was not a problem for me. Looking at the time charged, they took 3 hours to do the job, so no reason why if no major hiccups they could save you a return trip. Mind you there is not a lot to do in Swindon, unless you take a bike and go off and do a bit of exercise on some of the old railway cycle tracks They also seem to have a bit of sniff about to see if anything else (non cam-belt related) needs later consideration. Thanks, I may give them a go. I've been quoted £530 with new water pump and tensioner etc.

  16. Lots of confessions being heard today! And according to Quentin Wilson it's Axminster not Wilton, both of them of course a fine woven carpet.
  17. Thank you for your kind remarks about my LS. I think the money I spent getting it into this condition reflects the extremely high regard that I have for the LS 400. I'd be more than happy to give you a ride in my vintage Bentley although I must warn you; it is NOT in showroom condition. The car is 89 years old of which 37 have been in my possession. Not bad going, I suppose. Just as long as it's a warmer day than the one in the top photo. And is that a real dog or a piece of Staffordshire china?
  18. Just PM me your address and I'll cut it in half when it comes and post it to you. I won't be needing 5m. Phil
  19. Hi Greg, one of the safest ways is to use the thickest plastic strimmer wire. I'm not sure I would want to risk using metal. It's very common for the holes to get blocked, but they should clear quite easily. Phil I couldnt find one so went to my mates garage and they unblocked it with compressed air gun. Hopefully its sorted now. Thanks for Your help ! I've just bought some 4mm thick strimmer line from ebay, £3 for 5 metres. A good thing to keep in the boot.
  20. You should see his LS, looks like it just rolled out of the showroom, and that's no exaggeration. And as he only lives 11 miles from me, I'll be expecting a ride in that Bentley sometime!!!
  21. I agree, what dreadful wheels! There's a nice black one being sold by a dealer with full Lexus history. Serviced by the same dealer since 2001. I'd be considering that if I was in the market. Phil
  22. I have to confess to the same childish experience with a supercharged mini, and S type Jag, an E class Merc and various other things...... (Anonymous)
