  1. Had a car pull out in front of me yesterday evening circa 17:00. Then he proceeded to wander about taking turnings without indicating. Then overtook a learner driver - ON A ZEBRA CROSSING ! And the car was - - - - a Lexus GS300 LK52 U*N - what a muppet !
  2. I've only seen about 3 IS250's and I am only 5 miles from my local dealer ! Definately a rare beast at the moment
  3. There is a certain speed under which it goes to max. = perfectly normal
  4. Nah, definately not 2 way glass, definately metal plate. If it was me I would have left the spindle but removed the arm & blade - looked stupid.
  5. Followed a Transit style VITO van this morning. It had the option you quite often see where the rear window glass had been replaced by a metal plate, for security I suppose. But the rear windscreen wiper was still in place ! Chocolate teapots spring to mind.
  6. One of the reasons I insist on getting a car that will fit in my garage with sensible room around it. Unfortunately the IS250 is too big
  7. I only had my key batteries changed at 20K They change my aircon filter every 10K
  8. Just a point on tyre pressures. I had my car geo setup by our resident expert - Tony in Watford. He recommends 35psi all round regardless of usage. I had also read the manual and set mine to 33psi and my tyres were wearing slightly more on the edges, so the extra 2psi should sort that one. Note: Set to 35psi when the tyres are cold. It does sound like a good geo setup is required and I would suggest the trip to see Tony would be well worth the extra mileage. You will be assured of a top notch job regardless of the time it takes.
  9. Actually the latest 2006 Octavia is receiving good reviews and beat the IS200 in a recent owners survey ! Looking on Parkers (yes I know) the residuals are not that bad either. For 19K you can get everything exept the kitchen sink
  10. Sorry for dragging this back but I saw my first Civic yesterday as one passed me on the M25. I don't know what I was thinking putting it on my next car list - reminded me of a Citroen C3 with the raised bubble type roof - yuk I think later this year I will give my car to Lexus Guildford: Mileage will be 30K, so........... Final free service Front bumper & bonnet paint (M25 stone chips) Engine bay steam clean Replacement windscreen (also suffered with M25 damage) 4 refurb wheels & new tyres (well they will have done 30K) = as new condition and another 2 or 3 years life at a fraction of the cost of a new one
  11. With reference to Guildford - - - I had mine serviced in December and they handed over the keys to a courtesy IS250 with no questions asked.
  12. Thanks Steve There is no evidence of loose paint, it's definately normal stone damage and I put that down to the M25 roadworks that have now finished. There does not seem to be any new chips appearing since they finished the roadworks. Hando had the same problem with the same stretch of road. I've kept them all under control with touch-up. You can only see them when you are closer than about 3 or 4 feet away. Hopefully later this year I will get the bonnet & bumper re-done. One point here - I had been using the Lexus official 'Montrose Blue' touch-up paint but I am not that clever with a paint brush and the paint is definately too dark. Whilst in Halfords I noticed that Rover Tahiti Blue is an almost perfect match and those kits come with a 'nib' applicator that allows far more accurate delivery of the paint - proper job.
  13. Nope, same here I have been doing the same journey for 15 years and this car is the worst for chips. A previous Xantia had nothing ! I put it down to the manufacturers now having to use water based paints instead of lead? Not as durable? I am also looking at a bonnet and bumper spray soon
  14. And to think that we are an island surrounded by the stuff ! I would be quite prepared to pay a little more in my water rates to subsidise a desalination plant to ensure that more water is available in the South East.
  15. I would that at the moment they think they have the upper hand. If they gauge that you are going to change whatever then they will try it on. I think you have done the right thing. ps: have you test driven a IS250 Auto yet ? If so , did you 'get on' with the "handbrake" ?
  16. Hi There are a few mentions of 'only being done under warranty'. I am just assuming that the general warranty for the car (3 Years or 30K) also applies to the wheels ? How bad do they have to be for them to agree a change/refurb ? Mine look as they are just starting to go, but only very slightly at the moment. I think it is due to stones breaking the laquer and allowing the salt and muck in. Colleague of mine has a X Reg Toyota Celica (1999) and he still has the original wheels which are fine !
  17. When Tony got mine on the diagnostics, it also required adjustments in all angles. I don't suppose the production line have the enthusiasm that Tony has. As expected, you can set one wheel up correctly, but when you change another one, the first one is now misaligned. Tony goes round each wheel continually until they all line up and the PC display goes from all red to all green. It was obvious that mine was incorrect because the tyre wear, whilst not too serious, was showing indications that it needed attention. However, I also didn't notice any difference in 'the drive'. But again, maybe that is because I tend to take it easy also (most of the time). :)
  18. Mine have been good up until about a month ago due to regular(ish) washing and the car being garaged. Now I have noticed bubbling about the size of a 5p starting on 3 of them. I will wait until my 30K service is due around November and get them replaced then (unless advised differently here). That should then hold out until I change it about 2 years later. Q: If they replace them when I present the car for service at just under 30K (warranty limit) will that be it ? Any more corrosion replacement will need to be paid for ?
  19. Hando - you've just had the car resprayed and already got a serious stone chip ? :o
  20. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...=0entry331962 Showed what I believe to be fair prices.
  21. I drive past a Honda garage on my way to and from and I think they look distinctive/different. My first thoughts though was to wonder if that glass panel will stand up to the stones. If it does then thats one area that will not need touching up regularly. The new Honda EX auto is currently on my list of possibles in 2 years time, all depends on its residuals.
  22. I also do not intend changing for another 2 years. Maybe September 2007 or March 2008. If the IS200 was still available I would have changed next March. I have driven the Auto IS250 and didn't like it and it is too big for the garage anyway, threading a needle job. Plus all the defects reported here have helped the decision. I'm hoping that the rumoured Lexus BS is a reality. Otherwise : Honda Civic or *** 1 Series at the mo (auto)
  23. In recent reports and tests Ford have consistently increased their quality and reliability whist all German makes have declined. I heard a rumour that BMW have lowered quality to raise profit whilst still charging premium prices ?
