  1. rad blockage/corrosion is common on series I GS300s because the coolant change was really only an option on the service schedule so not everybody got it done, or the vehicles have got to the age where people don't service them at main dealers and the premixed Toyota LLC coolant doesn't get used.
  2. Which? just tested budget players (found in supermarkets) and found that picture and sound quality are noticably worse than well known brands so I would recommend spending £50-100 rather than £30-50.
  3. all depends what age of vehicle you have. If your rear demister button also has a picture of a mirror then they are both turned on together. Early models have the mirrors on all the time. On the early models I don't know if the front screen is on all the time like the mirrors or, as I expect, it comes on with the rear heater.
  4. Yes there is a cat 1 alarm and cat 2 immobiliser installed. Not sure why insurance companies have to ask this - they know it is factory fitted and they access to all the details! All UK IS200/300 have a Toyota Talm 001 Cat 1 device and a Toyota EIS 2 Cat 2 device.
  5. I don't think camshaft removal is required but probably a tool to put the valve down to remote the shims. You could subscribe to www.alldatadiy.com to get the procedure.
  6. Turn it on for a minute or two and feel the screen where the element is - should be warm.
  7. it's not 40bhp because the JDM supra always put out more than the 280bhp in the spec. There are many differences between the Euro/US and JDM engines. Most of the changes don't increase power but make the engine much better to mod. Injectors are larger (not really needed because the 440cc JDM injectors are not running at 100% anyway), stronger steel turbos, larger bore exhaust, MAF rather than MAP sensor, difference ECU mappings (Euro puts out more power and does better mpg). Boost may be a tiny bit higher.
  8. That's because the person behind backed off - they couldn't see where they were going through all the smoke and dirt ;)
  9. I believe the fuel tank is only 71l on the new GS and has about the same economy as the LS so you won't have the same range. The LS fuel tank is very big, something like 84l.
  10. Sounds like the valve clearances needs checking/adjusting if you are sure if is coming from that area. Another possibility is noisy fuel injectors.
  11. There won't be any Altezza as the vehicle will carry a Lexus badge. If they go with the luxury image as in other countries it is unlikely there will be 'specials'.
  12. The new 2.2 unit that Lexus will use in the IS220d so meant to be good. Prespool on the turbo sounds an interesting idea to get rid of turbo lag and lack of low end performance.
  13. Have you checked for error codes on the ECU? Could be something like a crank sensor not working - the ECU will shut down the engine straight away if that doesn't work.
  14. The boost is dependant on rpm of the engine as that is how it is driven. Some SC do switch off at idle or under low throttle but this normally isn't the case for aftermarket solutions as it's more expensive to implement.
  15. Do they have an E mark on the bulbs? Sounds more like your lights need adjusting rather than the bulbs. If you follow a car on dipped beam you light should be just above the number plate, not as high as the rear window.
  16. A Supra is lighter than a Aristo and available in manual too so that gives it the edge over a Soarer.
  17. nearly all Toyota engines have Yamaha input, certainly any GE or GTE heads. A UK Supra will beat a Soarer TT - maybe not to 50mph but from then on it will pull away. JDM Supra and Soarer are about the same.
  18. lets hope so. I think it's a maybe at the moment.
  19. Yes a petrol 535 would put out much more power than their 535d. However fuel economy would get much worse which is why they don't do it. The petrol engine puts out enough power without having to introduce turbo lag etc. chips, as for your comment on following diesel motors - I couldn't agree more. My AC seems to spend nearly all its time automatically on recirculate these days.
  20. Yes that could be an option. The Sat Nav unit outputs an RGB signal that other screens can use. The main problem, and I guess why Lexus didn't put in a touch screen, is the location of the screen isn't ideal - you cannot really reach out and touch the screen from a driving position.
  21. my 2000 sport also had 8. They just aren't easy to see.
  22. I thought SE and Sport have always had 8 speakers since the 1999 UK launch?
  23. The SE and sport models are 8 speaker systems. There are two speakers in each of the rear speaker enclosures.
