  1. Japan doesn't get the current 3.0l engine, only two 2.0l engine versions so there is no reason to think they will start to get all versions with the new model. The new GS300 isn't available in Japan, they are getting the GS350.
  2. The UK got the IS300 when the IS300 was available everywhere else in the world. If they make their decision based on the IS300 then they are probably right anyway, didn't exactly sell well it did.
  3. most standalone DVD recorders that have a digital input (if not all of them) have firewire not usb. Doesn't really matter if usb 2 or 3 is faster than some versions of firewire because the camcorder will only download at 1x speed which firewire can more than cope with. Off-topic - Even though usb 2 appears faster on paper you normally get worse throughput due to the way the architecture works.
  4. My Philips recorder can do something freaky with +RW discs to make them more compatible. I've got an old Toshiba DVD player that will not read any recordable disc, -/+ R or -/+RW. But it can read ones changed by the Philips recorder, even ones that weren't orginally written by it :D
  5. The coolant should be changed every two years. Wasn't part of the service on older models but an additional option which many people didn't do.
  6. non car general chat is on the public forums.
  7. It depends what it is made from. Some coolants aren't compatible, most are fine but just don't do as good a job as the Toyota red coolant to stop corrosion. At least you have changed yours. There are quite a few series I GS300s out there that have had the coolant changed infrequently and have rusted radiators as a result.
  8. yes it is a good idea and that's why there's one already :)
  9. Depends what generation the DVD unit is. I would guess only the LS and GS if it is an early version as no other models had DVD sat nav at that time.
  10. Both the series I and series II GS sports were something that Lexus GB decided to do. Takes are year or two before after market parts become available and this time 18" wheels and spoilers are being factory fitted in Japan so there is less need to do so.
  11. No you cannot test it like that. It has electronics in it to divide the number of speed pulses to give the correct output in mph. If you can locate it then check the connections have been made correctly.
  12. The fluid is drawn from the pan, through the internals of the transmission, through the external cooler and then back into the pan. You want to do the pan first so that all fluid drawn up is fresh and because you disconnect the cooler line you stop any of the old fluid that was in the transmission from going back in and mixing with the new. So yes after you do the drain/refill you disconnect the cooler, start the engine and let a litre out, stop the engine, put a fresh litre of fluid in through the dipstick tube and repeat untill the fluid coming out of the disconnected pipe is nice and clean. Then check the fluid level is within the cold markings as a guide and then drive for at least 15 minutes and then check the level is within the hot marking. You shouldn't rely just on the cold markings as they are just a guide, the hot marking are the accurate ones. To check the fluid level make sure the engine is running and move the gear selector through each position (pausing a couple of seconds between shifts) until back in Park and then check the dipstick (keeping the engine running). Sorry I'm not sure about the gasket/sealant for the pan, may be worth searching through the forums on the US LOC site - many more LS, GS and SC owners in the US
  13. yes although probably just a drain/refill rather than a complete flush? To replace all would cost more than that just for the fluid.
  14. It's not just a master cylinder. The brake booster is not vacuum driven but by and electric pump. There are also loads of solenoids all built into it for the VSC. The master cylinder was updated with the face lift model so the GS430 one isn't the same. I've not heard of this problem on any face lift models (oct 2000 +) The only other model that may use the same part is the LS400 MKIV. Don't know of any other Toyota that uses this part.
  15. Standard sport wheels are all the same size. There were optional wide wheels/tyres available for the series I GS sport.
  16. All ODB-II vehicles should have an O2 sensor after the cat. It is used to detect the cat is working properly. If it detects a problem the engine warning light will come on. The O2 sensor(s) before the cats are used to set air/fuel mixture
  17. Yes you should drain/refill the pan first. So that old and new fluid don't get mixed.
  18. expensive cars have expensive parts. No difference for BMW or MB etc.
  19. I think they all should. Lexus GB expect a certain standard.
  20. They are paying somebody to wash it, therefore you are paying for it in your servicing costs. Just isn't listed. The same thing could be asked about a courtsey car. If you don't get one then you are subsidising the cost for others that do. I don't drink tea or coffee. I should be able to get an extra few pence off for that as well ;)
  21. Yes, there have been several people with this problem. Most people have been able to find a used one rather than paying the £2k. The fault is probably either the pump or the pressure sensor. Don't think any dealer has actually swapped these parts over it find the exact cause, just replace the whole assembly.
  22. In gear rpm is not fine, it should be about 600 rpm.
