  1. After 9 years and 3 Lex i've finally sold mine because of the Insurance prices. Hopefully picking up an old 500 sl Merc to put on classic insurance.
  2. Well, after 9 years of of enjoying Japans finest, I'm moving on. I have a buyer for for my LS and I'm moving over to a Mercedes. Shock, Horror I hear you say. I have my reasons. I love my Lex but the insurance costs have gone out of the window and above the top floor. I cant justify paying it for a vehicle that last year only covered 2800 miles. This is despite max no claims and zero convictions. My other half has got herself a little Daihatsu Copen which she worships and because of that, the Lex gets even less use. As well the Lex making way, I'm selling my Stag after 22 years of ownership. This means I have a big huge V8 hole in my life which is where the Mercedes slots in. There should be a 500SL coming to fill the huge shoes that will be left when both cars go. The Camper Van and MX5 have a stay of execution. I have to have another V8. It has to be convertible. It has to be available with cheap Classic insurance. It could have been an SC430 if it could have ticked the last box. So maybe a backward step from the Lex but a forward leap from Triumphs finest underrated British twin cam marvel. I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty because I know it wont have the Swiss watch reliability like the Lex but the sound of that V8 with the hood down will make me forgive all its Idiosyncracies. So its good bye from me for now until MK1 GS300 Sports in Pearl White become available on cheap classic insurance.
  3. I recently had some paint sorted and my wheels refurbed on my MK 1V DHP model with a view to selling it. The car looks great and has the added bonus of an LPG conversion with a huge tank but I just cant bring myself to part with it despite its lack of use. I wouldn't know what to replace it with.
  4. Every so often, I turn the key to start and nothing happens. All the lights come on as normal, wheels moves but its same symptom as trying to start in D. Battery is fine. When it starts normally it spins over no problem. If I flick the key a few times, it fires but if I hold the key at start and move the gear lever fom D to N then it will fire as well. Not sure if its inhibitor switch or ignition switch. Either way, its only going to be a poor connection. Has anyone experienced it and can point me in the right direction?
  5. The Injectors on mine can be heard as well but on any other engine, you wouldn't pick up on it. I still have the Engine cover fitted because the Injectors are in a slightly different place. Performance wise, I cant tell any difference. I would recomend it to anyone.
  6. I know its an old thread but im lovin the 120 litre tank. I thought mine was big at 85 litres just standing proud of the spare wheel well.
  7. The only time I get to go in mine now is when the missus needs it filling with LPG. She is scared to do it herself. I have no idea what mileage is on it and dont bother looking. I serviced it first week in Jan and it probably will need a new battery soon. Its a MK 1V DHP which seduced me when I first drove it. I swear if it hadn't been offered to me, I would have quite happily grown old with my MK 1 GS sport.
  8. It still is Chris if you buy it from the right outlets. Im reaping it while it lasts. Don't think I would bother having a conversion done anymore just incase the cost goes stupid. I can get a full tank (80Litres} for between £34 and £42 depending on where i buy it. Could complain but wont. lol
  9. I wouldn't be running mine if it didn't have a huge LPG tank in the boot. Did consider movin on but seen sense in the end.
  10. Just to give you a heads up..... A lot of people get brainwashed into comparing Meerkats, Annoying Opera singers and just generally being confused. Check out the lesser known compare sites like Professor Money or quote Zone. Martyn Lewis has a list of the pros and cons on his site. Well worth a look.
  11. I did a lot of homework and did quite a lot of haggling and got it cheaper than last year with the same old extras. I love the way some of the prices come up on comparison sites.
  12. Coming up to 10 years of Lex ownership now. Its not unbroken ownership. I had a short but memorable foray back into Nissan Z cars for about 8 months but couldn't wait to get back into a Lex. This time though could be the beginning of the end. I love my LS. It keeps a Triumph Stag, Eunos Roadster, VW T4 camper and a works vehicle company. It gets very little use but when it does its just like slipping into an old pair of shoes. The reason im thinkin of selling is because i have just had the insurance renewnal through and its nearly doubled from last year. Nothing has changed. No claims or anything. I have the other vehicles on a classic policy and the prices are fine but this Lex renewal wants not only an arm and a leg but a Kidney as well. Does anyone specialise in big Jap Barge insurance out there or is it time to walk away? I dont even think I could go back to an GS now after having this magic carpet ride.
  13. I would quite happily of grown old with my GS until a DHP came along and found me. Sadly though, it may not be around for much longer.
  14. I have a Stag LPG set up on mine. No flash lube and sequential multi point all singing all dancing. No noticeable loss of power and seamless switching between Gas and petrol. Love it and recomend it to everyone
  15. Its still nice and silence but just to make sure, I undid the bonnet buffers an went for a drive and lo behold, my clunk had returned. Now its all nice and quiet again.

  17. Well, my annoying clunk on the front end turned out to be a simple fix. It was the bonnet. When it was shut, it wasn't shut tight against its buffers so when I hit a bump it would move slightly. I just screwed out the buffers a bit and now I travel in silence again. Happy Days.
  18. I'm goin to be selling my DHP in the not to distant future and would love to get to the bottom of this annoying noise first. Both top and bottom front ball joints have been changed to great expense but the clunk is still there. Its not very loud but it annoys me. Is there anything else I can check on the front suspension? The springs are ok. No breaks so other than a rubber bush, im stumped.
  19. Ive got DHP wheels and a set of MK1 GS sports wheels with the ten inch rears. I swap between the two cos can't decide which ones I like the best.
  20. I understand your concern about aftermarket parts but can you be sure that an original belt and a pattern belt don't come off the same production line and the only difference is the name on the box?
  21. Hi Keith. I'm still lurkin in the Shadows. I was seduced by the dark side and moved to an LS400 with LPG. If you have never driven an LS then I suggest you don't. It will seduce you and you will become unable to resist its charms. Fabulous car, but just doesn't look as good as a MK1 GS sport with 10 inch rears despite mine being lowered and having a set of MK1 sport wheels with 10 inch rears. lol
  22. Admiring clean oil when you change it isn't really a good thing. If its doing its job then it should come out dirty. Its the same as washing your dirty hands in water and the water not discolouring.
