  1. This pic is making its rounds on facebook, thought I'd share it here too :P
  2. Hello from MK too! Welcome to the club
  3. I use a reflective sunshade for the windscreen of my car. Makes a real difference to the temperature of the seats and steering wheel when you return after it is parked in the sun :)
  4. I've read about this before, and I wonder if it's just down to the extra heft of the engine or different steering rack altogether. Oh and you will get used to the autobox soon enough :)
  5. Car's looking ace mate; Kodiak Sky is a pretty rare colour and scrubs up real nice (or maybe Platinum Ice is just too common :P)In theory a single coat of HD wax, if applied properly, should last many months. In my case, applying EGP followed by two coats of HD Wax was perhaps a little overkill, but the next time I get to repeat this on the Lexus will probably only be this time next year. The Lexus is also (unfortunately) my winter runabout, so the paint needs all the layers of protection it can get. . Woah there... you mean you apply the Aqua Wax after just hosing down the car with the jetwash? Without using any car shampoo?
  6. Looking good Pete :). Shame you have to sell the car; are you off to the states in Feb then?
  7. I used to work in Dunton, and noticed that you're an automotive design engineer based in Essex. So I had to put the two together and ask :P
  8. cheers! :) Extra Gloss Protection is a sealant, so I applied a coat of it right after polishing the car. I then buffed it off after letting it cure for about two hours. This was then followed by two coats of HD Wax.
  9. At the risk of being unpopular, I'd have a serious look at the Nissan Murano at that price. The Murano is just as reliable as the RX, if not more so, and its engine (part of the Nissan VQ family) was on the list of Ward's 10 Best Engines for over 10 years running. It also uses a timing chain, which requires less maintenance than a timing belt. Have a test drive of both and it'll be interesting to hear what you think :) Happy shopping!
  10. Any smell of petrol when your car hesitates/stumbles during acceleration? Sorry just re-read that the problem occurs while you're slowing down. Not sure what could cause that, sorry :outforcount:
  11. Welcome to the club, Michael, and some amazing drawings and sketches you have there! :) Do you spend much time working in Dunton by any chance?
  12. Cheers dude! :DI had another go at cleaning my car today. Here are my soldiers: I began by washing the car: And then I forgot to take shots in between, but this is the end result:
  13. your car is already immaculate mate, you should be giving me pointers! :P
  14. It's gonna be a nice weekend, so I've decided to dedicate an entire day to give my car a good scrub. My car is also Platinum Ice in colour. :zee: The mantra I follow is: wash -> clay bar -> wash -> polish -> sealant -> wax -> and perhaps another layer of wax :P Panya also mentioned in a prior thread that topping all that off with a layer of quick detailer helps reduce dust from settling and staying on the paint. I'm gonna give that a shot too. I agree that Platinum Ice isn't the best colour to show off your hardwork. This photo was from my previous effort, and you can just about see the reflection of my IS200 on my other car (also silver): Products that I use: Autoglym car shampoo Meguiars clay kit Autoglym Super Resin Polish Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection (sealant) Autoglym HD wax Autoglym Rapid Detailer and of course the necessary polishing cloth, microfibre, wash mit, etc, that goes with all these ;) Looking forward to this weekend... and the body ache that follows! B)
  15. Yeah my uncle has one and it is indeed a nice car to drive. I was just surprised at how much bigger it is to an IS200! :P
  16. That paintjob and colour is simply stunning. Well done :) Just out of curiosity, in the first pic, is the car parked next to your Lexus a Kia Cerato?
  17. Here are some of my pics :) Thanks to Vasilis for organising and thanks to all for attending! :zee:
  18. Yep it was great to meet everyone and nice cars too! Sorry I had to leave early. Pics coming soon!
  19. In a few more hours lads!! I'm off to wash the car now. :P
  20. my bald spot is shinier than yours... Speaking of bald spots, here's some sacrilege: my datsun laurel, which predates my IS by 20-odd years, is smoother and more economical. And it has a dinosaur of a 2.4L 6-cyl lump. In my humble opinion, I think the IS200 is a smooth car, but I wouldn't say it has the smoothest 6-cyl engine around, even by standards in its day. It's the whole car as a package that makes the IS200 appealing. It's smooth enough. It's powerful enough. And it handles well enough. Is the IS300 smoother than the IS200? Well I would think so, on the grounds that you don't have to rev the engine as hard to get the same drivability as the IS200, if anything. But so what? The IS300 was much more expensive when new anyway, and it is thirstier and costs more to insure. You'd hope it is a smoother car. Manual vs automatic is an interesting one. The OEM whom I'm consulting to no longer offers the manual gearbox on any of their models, and hasn't done so for a while now. Customer demand for manual boxes is just deteriorating unfortunately.
  21. Is the design similar to the one that Panya wore at Plank & Leggit?
