  1. Have you had your alignment done? cause 8,000 miles is very bad . . .
  2. I'm also looking at getting one of those Dashcams, so that whenever someone over takes me when i'm travelling at the maximum . . . i can forward it to the authorities . . . . . .
  3. Martin, I think that is the answer. if you you want to drive like the car feels it should be, then you'll get poor MPG.
  4. Unleaded.pdf BP use part Bio Fuel as well as other additives. I have the 2006 safety report of the composition of 95 Octane BP fuel.
  5. Vaguely. The supermarkets will not do anything to the fuel that they purchase from the suppliers. They just buy the basic cheapest stuff that they can. It'll still be 95 Octane, but cheap stuff. If you run your car and clean out the pipes on a regular basis, then you'll appreciate the results of the additives, in most cases, you'll probably not notice.
  6. I don't think the difference is too great, maybe an extra 20 miles per 100 litres. If you drive it carefully, you'll notice it more.
  7. Fantastic. My opinion is simply, if you want to be a ****** and tailgate and overtake and drive at a speed that is above the MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF THAT PARTICULAR ROAD, Then go ahead. I'll happily move to the left and let you get on with your day (I'm also campaigning for more speed cameras - yes they are a cash revenue, but only from the people who are caught breaking the speed limit) The issue I have, is that despite this, there are still some ****ers out there. On my way to work last Thursday, we had come out of a 30MPH zone, into a 40MPH zone and were soon to go into a 60MPH zone, this idiot in a Red 60'plate C Class Merc pulls out from about 5 cars back flies up to me, who's at the head of the queue, slows down, does the ****** gesture and roars off . . . . . Why was there a need for that? I'm driving at the MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF THAT PARTICULAR ROAD? Yes I have the power and ability to do 120MPH, but that's not the MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF THE ROAD!!!!!!
  8. Hi welcome to the club. A couple of people have mentioned swapping the engine with a Supra, as this is twin turbo already, but there aren't really any cheap options.
  9. But it may be worth spending a an hour or two trying to work out which ones are going to the best for http://www.blackcircles.com/ http://www.valuetyres.co.uk/ The IS200 has a tendency to wear out it's tyres quite quickly. It will be worthwhile getting the alignment done by WiM http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/ as this will cure the cars thirst for the inner edge of the front tyres and the camber of the rear. This will cost £115 on its own though. I went for tyres that were classed as ECO. Low rolling resistance and good for wet weather grip, Lexus UK recommend Bridgestone as they are much more durable. Then you have to factor in what price you are looking at paying. This bit is IMPORTANT!!! Lexus UK will promise to beat any Price including fitting on the street. NOT INTERNET DEALS as they often simply send you the tyres to then find a fitter. Find the tyres, find the price, then ring Lexus.
  10. As everyone will say, 'If you drive it heavy footed, then your fuel consumption will go up. Drive it carefully and change gear at the correct times, you'll do well' The official figures for the IS200 combined cycle are 28.5 MPG. I have been very cautious and have an average of 31.4MPG since I purchased the car in January and have completed over 11,000 miles. I like the knowledge of having the power if I wish to use it, but I also want to get my petrol to last as far as it will go. I can usually get 450 miles out of the tank without too much concern. £80-£90 per tank is a lot. I fill to the brim as well and I'm going to try and only fill the tank to 35 litres each time. It will mean I may have to stop more often, but with the reduced weight from carrying 35 litres less should improve the fuel economy.
  11. The Lexus IS200/IS300 is designed to run on 95 Octane unleaded. Many argue that putting in any higher octane (super unleaded) will have no or limited improvement. Supermarket petrol does not contain any of the additives that the 'proper petrol' companies use. Esso, BP, Shell etc put a lot of money into development and make claims that their petrol will go further on a tank of petrol. If they sold the same stuff to the supermarkets, then there would be no point paying for the advertising to try and get you to to them directly. I use Morrisons and Tesco because I have their loyalty cards, but I usually notice an increase in MPG when I use Esso. . . .
  12. It is a really nice colour. I saw another SportCross in the same colour as Panyas' is300. That was nice. Yeah, when I bought mine, it was on standard 16's. The wheels were alright, but I wanted the 17's. They just look right.
  13. I wanna get my calipers done. The IS is listed as persian quartz so I wanna do the calipers in the same colour. I want my car to retain its understated qualities. I upgraded from standard Lexus 16's, which I'll keep as winter wheels, to standard Lexus 17's. The wheels cost me £95, the refurb £320, HanKook tyres £425. . . WiM alignment £115. starts getting expensive without even trying. . . . .
  14. Welcome to the group Michael. Very nice looking IS200. Good way of changing the cars identity every couple of weeks. Lol.
  15. I think it is something that needs to be reviewed, with power assisted Steering, you don't need both hands on the wheel, you don't need to control a modern car like an Austin Allegro. . . . . You don't need to feather the wheel any more. Modern driving is easier because manufacturers have made cars easier to drive.
  16. Uhh... PetayV8. Umm, your arm should not be left dangling, if you hold the steering wheel with both hands, one at the 10 and the other at the 2 as if imagining the steering wheel was the face of a clock, then your arm will have plenty to do. . . . .
  17. Thank you Profess for this wonderful offer. Is anyone looking at organising a Lexus Meet for South Wales? Owners from across the water would also not have too far to travel and Caerphilly has a great castle . . .
  18. Welcome to the site. Considering the is200/is300 was the entry level vehicle to Lexus ownership, the build quality and number of standard items is amazing. 6 months into owning my SportCross and I'm still loving driving it so much . . . I've done over 11,000 already . . .
  19. Hi Gee. I think a service would help blow out the cobwebs and ensure the engine is in tip top condition and then look at getting a K&N air filter to help with the engine running better. http://www.knfilters.co.uk/mobile/mProduct.aspx?prod=33-2845 Don't spend too much now, but keep saving and get a decent supercharger at a later stage. Didn't check the tax amounts when I get mine back in January and nearly had a heart attack. As for insurance . . . I'm a boring careful driver, no claims for 15 years, I paid £390 for the year, but swiftcover.com offered even less . . . Shop around age and location will have an impact, but barter with companies, they want your money!
  20. I do indeed. I'm conscious of how I drive and try to drive as economically as possible. I drive at the speed limit and get annoyed at the people who fly past me when I'm driving AT THE LEGAL MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT FOR THAT PIECE OF ROAD . . . . *-ahem-* I'm looking into getting a Dashcam too, to help monitor my driving and reduce my insurance premium if possible.
  21. The vehicle was not there on Monday. It has gone. I can only assume the owner either sold it, moved it, or found some money and taxed it. If the NHS were still charging to park cars on it's land, they would never have let that car sit there for 6 months. Oh well . . . .
  22. The nursery is coming on nicely. I'll get the other two plug points in by Saturday, then I've got to get the floor boards up and cut some gulleys into the joists to allow the wires to travel through and chase the wire from the floor to the plug points. On Sunday, Michelle's Dad is coming to connect the wires to give us electric in the room. We've got the paper ready, but I've got to get the dining room ready for electrics first. Once the dining room is done, then we can decorate. Gotta be done by September 27th. As this is the day Michelle starts her maternity leave. Yeah, I'm sure Lexus suggested it to earn themselves more money. I'll probably get the MOT done by the guys who usually do it. It'll be cheaper!
  23. Yes and no. The MOT certificate, or sheet as it is now known, states that 'to preserve the anniversary of the expiry date, the earliest you can present your vehicle for test is (30 days before it expires) But you can actually take your car to be tested whenever you want. Secondhand car dealers sell their cars with new MOT's regardless of when they are due to expire. My car was registered on 7th September 2004 and in theory, this should be the date at it goes to be MOT'd each year, but as the car has been sold on 6 times, the date of the MOT has moved as a result of dealerships carrying out an MOT before sale when it wasn't due. My MOT now expires on 19th January. So, Lexus Cardiff asked if I wanted to bring the SportCross in early to have the MOT done early and to reclaim the anniversary of the registration . . . . . . . and like the fool that I am, I may very well book the car in early. . How are you Chris?
