  1. What ATF hose did you buy? Was it 10mm which I've found impossible to source via t'bay. Or did you but from Lexus the official hose which for my car is if I remember over £70 for the equivalent of a metre?
  2. Well it seemed like a nice day to fit the Kit. Sadly, a word of caution to any one else considering this, having held the part to the Radio its clear it has been cut with such a tight fit and in one case a slight error in button positioning, that this will require some Stanley knife work if it is to be fitted. Not sure button removal is possible though may try it? Its possible the backing when removed may make things a little less tight but I'm not taking a chance on fitting something and finding I can't turn/push various buttons in/out. Real shame and silly they didn't allow a little space to each control knob. The display panel left of the Cassette entry is not the right length across and the pattern there allows for half the Lexus name to appear and not all of it. The good news is its a very good match to the Ashtray and some parts will fit without trouble but some will definately require modification. Circles are not easy to enlarge. Squares no problem but won't be quite as nice looking. Bottom rear central control vent is a different shape to mine which has circular Cigar lighter. not going to waste such a lovely day with it so on the back burner - for now. Earlier in the week got back from 2,500 miles driving to the SW and South of France over the Millau Viaduct and back via Carcassonne. The car did sterling work (under a boozy load) and I will treat it to the kit in due course.
  3. It will be good to get your car back. Original Cats have a scrap value of £90 (so I was told ??) so hopefully you will be able to offset some of your expense.
  4. If the misfire has gone completely what did he do to fix it? If he replaced a coil pack then surely the cause of the different pressure was owing to one side not firing. Now firing, why change the Cats? Has he told you that he actually removed the Cats to get the Car to run properly? To remove these are usually a pain. A dodgy coil would have cost £25 aftermarket.
  5. I think I'd want a second opinion before such outlay. Did you contact the LPG people for any ideas/comment?
  6. Yoh! for glass headlamps - never liked the look of plastic - one expense I can avoid.
  7. Been getting real squeeking when going slowly over speed humps to local tip. Sounded like Grandma's bed springs when I was more active shall we say!! Rock Auto price for stabiliser bushes Beck/Arnley $9.76 a pair. When and if, I decide to take off the under panel to do the oil filter change it would seem an appropriate time to do the bushes.
  8. My alarm went off yesterday when I opened the boot with the spare key. Has done this before on occasions. Don't need to unlock the car before opening the boot surely? Is it another known gremlin?
  9. Can someone confirm that on a mk2 to change the oil filter I will need to take off the undertray? - bally inconvenient place to put the filter. Great believer in changing the filter more often than the oil, which rarely looks dirty. Feeling lazy and with wet weather can't be asked to lay down on wet ground to check. Will do the change myself if its not an Undertray off job.
  10. Funny, I looked at the other items the person has for sale and he has a Volvo (I've had the S40) and a Renault Safrane. I had a Safrane briefly. It was a diesel and although very comfortable inside, it did smell a bit of diesel and the previous owners Dog. It went into limp mode on me with a suggested replacement gearbox cost of £1400. Unserviceable, and seeing the word "serv" on the Instrument cluster I guess it needs some Servicing. I do like the interior comfort level, however.
  11. Its because I put a space in the number plate details for the MOT check, is why it said not found! May be right about the colour difference. It can be difficult to tell depending on reflections of nearby things. Looks like the cluster has an illumination issue to sort. One Lexus is enough for me!
  12. Saw this on t'bay and thought there's a fine looking example and history reads caring owners. Do i need two? not really. Puzzled as number plate not recognised on DVLA http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-LEXUS-LS400-V8-LONG-MOT-3-OWNERS-SERVICE-HISTORY-140-000-miles-/182072718682?hash=item2a6461355a:g:dEAAAOSwGYVW9pP9
  13. If as you say you disconnected the battery I don't know that it won't still hold a charge after three months. If it was in good condition when left, it will probably only need a trickle charge on it for a day or less. Mind you, you may be committing yourself to quite a lot of expense. Timing belt, water pump etc and labour cost alone is "Ouch"!. Add to this possible seized calipers, rusty discs,, starter motor locked and it could be a very expensive holiday you've given the Car. As Steve says, Rodent possible damage / infestation and it could be a lost cause. Sorry if this all sounds gloomy and hoping you will have none of the problems. My MR2 I laid up for six years in a Garage. It started on original petrol with a bit of new, after I'd let some oil soak in the pots, but Calipers, Alternator, Discs made it an expensive fix only to find i had a head gasket leak. Sold it for a couple of hundred just to get rid of the headache.
  14. Thats good - I've bought one of these cheapy reversing cameras. Wondering why no one puts them at the centre of the parcel shelf. Perhaps its too distant to see? Somehow relying on looking forward whilst reversing I may not get my brain around. Thought I'd (eventually) fix my Camera to the tow bar spare Caravan socket holder. Unlikely to tow a Caravan only a trailer occasionally.
  15. There are two on a single point system Brian, one to battery and the other to switched ignition. Not sure if same on sequential? Fuse to switched ignition may be under the dash, but it would be another route to temporarily disable gas to check there is no duel fuelling going on.
  16. So the Car doesnt have a Canbus system? (cribbed below description from elsewhere) to better understand. CAN Bus is a multiplexed wiring system used to connect intelligent devices such as Electronic Control Units (ECU's) on vehicles, allowing data to be transferred in a low-cost and reliable manner. CAN means 'Controller Area Network' and was developed by Bosch in 1980. Most new vehicles use this system and it is becoming increasingly difficult to install after-market products without using a CAN Bus Interface.
  17. Thinking about it in bed Mike, you could check that its not LPG related. Setting the switch to petrol and disconnecting the blue (live feed) wires to the solenoid on the Vaporiser and also on the seperate solenoid which feeds the Vaporiser. You've then cut off the automatic supply which come on with the ignition. If it then runs OK on petrol you've narrowed down the source to the LPG ECU. The other thing which I stand to be coreected on, is the posibility that its the Coil pack. There is one for each side of the Engine and I've heard of them packing up on older Mercs. Please use your own judgment if you want to try the test. I can't imagine it causing any problem but as the lawyers would insist I say, its "without responsibility or liability".
  18. Just a thought, (and I'll butt out after this) the emulator cuts the petrol feed when switching to gas. If it isn't doing its job it could it be that the side mentioned is overfuelling with gas and petrol hence not firing properly. The Emulator may in a sequential be part of the LPG ECU. Worth a phone call to your friends at Profess gas possibly?
  19. If you ever need to add water, always add distilled water and never water from the tap.
  20. On a single point system you'd need two Emulators for each four cylinders. Not sure on a sequential. Perhaps a call to Profess Gas to find out. Could be one Emulator has failed, if you have two. Just a thought that they may be able to give you some advice. Could be just a faulty Earth if you have Emulators?
  21. A word of advice John, I'm sure that most will agree - use the Air con regularly unless you want it to pack up. A very costly repair should it do so. Also a tip, always use the handbrake when parked up, even at home - although, that might not apply if you are leaving the Car for a long period of time, unused. Don't want to find it won't release in the Garage
  22. Tidy job. Where does the power line run from? If the battery (fused) how did you route it through the bulkhead? Or is it a USB to the cigar lighter and only used when absolutely necessary?
