  1. Was this a fail MOT list or what part was the fail, and what part Advisories?
  2. I guess it would depend how flush you are, and at what age you are for considering making the change. I have no knowledge of the the other vehicles advantages / disadvantages, but knowing the beast you already own is an advantage to perhaps lining up a new set of problems. Second hand Cars are usually sold because a problem looms on the Horizon. This said, boredom does set in at times. I kept my last car for six years. This one is only in its second year and has cost me a lot to get it to a satisfactory state, but worth it IMO. Being an Old Codger I don't need to keep up with modern man. What was your last MOT failure and advisories out of interest?
  3. A weight of your mind, I daresay? Stopped by the Gendarmes in France once because the inner black part of the "0" was missing from the number plate. Would have been a €60 euro on the spot fine if they hadn't realised it was a Hire Car and waved me away. Have since put an insulation tape "0" on another hire car where it was missing to avoid the hassle. Tell me Mike what LPG system/brand did profess gas put in your car?
  4. You can buy the Arm bushes on ebay £30 or £170 if you want the Poly things. Its the Ball joint that will be the difficult part to source, I imagine. Looking forward to seeing what your S/S Exhgaust man may make up. Will this be with CAD so that it can be replicated exactly? With regard to dispensing with the Cats it may not be a wise move as you have LPG. I may be wrong, but it may not give your ECU accurate enough info? Others will correct me on this. You may want to check out the LPGforum.co.uk where they are always extremely helpful.
  5. Having more than half a tank full of petrol is a good sign given that most being sold are on empty. As an aside as regards Seatbelt clips, its one of my irritations that on the 93 model I spend at least a minute trying to find the Seat Belt clip with a winter coat on. Its far too short a stalk and absolutely no point in the illumination of it as I can't see it even if I crank my head over to the centre. A longer stalk is preferable to the gimmick light. Mustn't lead on to the Seats being too small as I know Members generally like them. The advantage of the S Class being wider body, wider seats and IMO more comfortable, I miss.
  6. Lets hope you can do something with your originals or amayana eventually restock. The US Seller "partscontainer" if you look at their negative feedbacks just for the last month I think you will come to the conclusion OES wont be OEM in some cases.
  7. The quote was not my own. I would say that if you check the situation with regard to aftermarket front UCA's you'll find that the rubber gaiter on one I purchased from the States lasted about three months. So, although the bushes may (???) be Ok I don't know just yet. Next MOT will tell. If you buy from the US its likely to be quoted as a major brand name, but actually sourced in China or Taiwan. Buy separately a gaiter from UK supplier before fitting would be my advice.. There is mention where to buy Gaiters on a thread. As for a "split" in the steel/welding of a rear UCA I'm pretty sure I found mention of it on this site. I was wanting to buy a Front wing from US. Vendor listed spec as "OEM True" but when questioned it was actually an aftermarket part made I don't know where. Only 50 Bucks, but to import probably prohibitively expensive.
  8. You may want to bear this in mind when you search those parts - "OES is Original equipment supplier. Equivalent to aftermarket parts. Companies that make auto parts that may or may not be a contracted supplier to the original car company. These parts are generally cheaper than original brand parts and subsequently can be of less quality, although that's not necessarily so. Most major car makers don't make their own parts, they contract them out to other companies. These OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) or OES companies make the parts that are branded with the original car makers logos and part numbers. They also may sell them as aftermarket parts and are thus labeled or branded as a generic OES." somewhere I read that an aftermarket part rear UCR only lasted three thousand miles and split.
  9. Hope for Members sake these Arms are not going to become as rare as Hens Teeth. For my earlier model I bought a couple must be over a year ago as "on Advisory" two or more years ago, but not since Not changed them yet. Certainly cost more than the price mentioned. They are Toyota manufacture ref 48770-50010 and 48790-50010. I think someone else bought similar not long ago and complained when charged extortionate amount for VAT or something. Was it Cleverdick?
  10. I assume the car was pulled from the Auction as I saw it up at a fixed price (can't recall what but more than £5k) IIRC) and seems to have disappeared again. Bit smoke and mirrors this car.
  11. If you decat the system will it not be a "fail" for the MOT. Where there were Cats there have to be Cats? Be interested to hear what your new friend has in mind. I was quoted £500 to bodge up the Y pipe to Cats. Bought two Cats for later model than Mk2 and thought I could perhaps add metal though yet to test my welding skills. Well I can dream! Just bodging with the Wynns when it goes in to have the Auto box fluid replaced. Tricky parts to replace with unusual bends & Lambda being so close to flange.
  12. Of course you can never tell when a Baby might come along especially if you only keep your Cars for six months. So you buy, knowing you are going to have to get rid of it? Bidding pals?
  13. If you are running on LPG you may need a hotter plug. A Member recommended Brisk plugs and though Ive yet toinstall my LPG kit (and maybe never with this price of Petrol?) they seem pretty good. Wasn't particularly happy with a set of Leads that I bought at the same time. Have kept the originals as spares.
  14. There's a ropey one on Preloved - been on there months and months. Wants £48 for it. Frankly a tenner is more than its worth in its present state - if that! but if its convenient to collect and if the style you want? Daresay any breaker on ebay will provide better. my 93 wheels are 16 x 7 inch 225/60/r16 offset 45. Imagine yours are this size also. Earlier cars may have been 15 inch.
  15. Not quite sure why this is found under "Lexus" on preloved site. If you can stay awake its an interesting car I suppose. Looks something like a Russian project build. Whitewall tyres added by owner and Wing mirrors from the sixties? Nice? Not being that knowledgeable on cars after the Seventies I admit I'd never heard of this marque. V12 chain driven is a plus, but interior not to my taste. Any lovers of this car? http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/611708875/2001-toyota-century-century.html
  16. But isn't Ethanol an additive to petrol and in France they sell E10 which I've read never to put into an older car but seems to be what more modern cars are to use? ps Tesco 2.5l Screenwash £2.63 am trying it.
  17. Sounds like a nice car Perhaps Cam belt needs changing but cheap car https://www.gumtree.com/p/lexus/lexus-ls400-mk4-dhp-priv-plate-v400lex-2000-v-black-leathers-fsh-new-tyres-battery-nice-%C2%A31250/1145525661
  18. Is it me - I'm getting a warning - "site not secure" when I go into amayama. Another useful site for finding part numbers is www.toyoDIY.com
  19. Personally, I completely understand where you are coming from. I spent probably three times what I paid for the car to get things sorted to my liking and still have rear wishbones and Springs in the Dining Room. yet to be fitted. I've never spent so much time trying to source expensive parts (£77 quoted for two small rubber hoses to radiator from Auto box - criminal) and worrying over the Car. OK Its lovely to drive but ... I don't think I'd have gone for the car if I'd known what to expect. It has to some extent I feel almost taken over my daily life. It should be just a Car. Resigned to enjoying it with perhaps a week a year when I won't be worrying over something or other.
  20. Regret reading this thread as its reminded me that I asked a Q. as to the backlighting of my Radio buttons recently. Now its on my mind Ican't stand things not being right, and I fear I will dwell on the subject until I resolve to do something about it. Very useful reference by Ambermarine to a thread on the US Club on the subject which I've read with interest. I wonder as all lights are out on my buttons perhaps it is the Resistors rather than the bulbs causing the fault. Not sure if the earlier Pioneer for my Car will be same as the later model Radio which is seen in photo's with the Resistors pointed out. The Display panel lights up. Would be nice to see the buttons lit but is it worth all the trouble when I can plug in a computer LED flexi light to the Cigar lighter and see the buttons at night? Darn it, I suspect I won't let it rest!
  21. You are absolutely right Cleverdick - it is my memory that is at fault. Thank you. I spent the night thinking shall I take out the unit again (what a bind) or buy a replacement unit or go back to the idea of installing the Sony. Fact is, I'd forgotten I had used an FM Transmitter early 2015 but had failed to select UKW whatever that means when I tried it recently. Don't get out much you know!
