  1. Hi Ashleigh ,welcome to the forum, you sure got a nice car there , as to your question about the wheels I haven't got a clue what your talking about ! Do your mean the wheel stud centres ? I don't understand what you mean by pitch ? Allan
  2. Hi Mark, reading your list of cars you have similar taste to my own, always liked the Jensen but could never afford one although I did spoil myself back in 1974 buying a Lotus 2+2 which was a great car but needed constant maintenance , I also had trouble with ford auto boxes mk3 cortina being the car, it put me off auto boxes up until I got the is250 sel, my best car to date was the is200 without doubt . Allan
  3. Have you tried ebay ? I get all my parts from there ! Allan
  4. I had a is200 for 10 years and still rate it as the most reliable car I've ever owned bar none, even more so than my is250 !! Really considering buying another to replace my is250 !!! They are now going up in value while the is2 is dropping drastically . Allan
  5. 6 months waiting for the car airbag recall to be done also the fuel pressure sensor , as i predicted i will be lucky to get this done before xmas 2016 , maybe xmas 2017 might be a more realistic time scale , how many lexus owners have had this work done yet and how long have you waited ????
  6. I think the problem is the manufacturer Takata , they have to supply 1.3 million air bags to resolve this problem for most of the big car factory's Toyota being just one of many, on top of that they have got to still carry on manufacturing airbags for all the new cars being made ! I personally think we will be lucky to get the airbag replaced this side of Christmas, I still have not heard of anybody who has has this work completed or does anybody know different ? Allan
  7. Thats what i call customer service, well done Lexus (Bolton ?) credit where credit is due. Allan
  8. Has anybody had the air bag recall fixed yet ? I was told by my local Lexus dealer they would call me when the parts were in, that was 6 weeks ago, they said it would be about 4 weeks, I'm curious to know if any Lexus owners have had this work completed. Allan
  9. I did say rubbish 'mostly' and was not saying Lexus dealers are all bad but there are some as can be backed up with certain posts on this forum, there must be other members of this forum who have had bad experiences with independent motor repairers or is it just me ?, one independent wanted to charge me £ 2400.00 to supply and fit a new air con compressor and condenser ! I had the job done for £ 900.00 at a professional air con specialist , also when i had problems with my bmw 328i getting water in the oil, the garage that serviced my car did not even want to diagnose the problem, another garage wanted to charge me £2000.00 to take the cylinder head off skim then refit with no warranty on the work afterwards.... turns out it was a cracked oil filter housing which is water cooled... less than a £100.00 to fix !!!! these are just two examples of bad service ,i could give you more, but then it could just be i'm unlucky ! Allan
  10. The mileage on most modern cars is not as important as : wear on steering wheel, wear on pedal rubbers, wear on seats , along with checking the engine oil colour and smell, are the original tyres on the car or a mixture of different tyres amongst the usual check to be done before the car is purchased . Allan
  11. Have you got higher hinges fitted to your bonnet ? It seems to be lifted at screen end of the bonnet, nice car in that colour, regarding your cam belt....I really would get this done as soon as you can , the consequences of it failing could wreck the engine , I had mine done twice when I had my is200 , the cost was about £ 250.00 Allan
  12. I've just read this post and I am very envious, lovely car you've got there, Allan
  13. Hi Stuart, welcome to the Loc ..you've got a nice motor there, I had a is200 for 10 years and can honestly say it was the second best car I've owned, ( the best car I owned was a lotus elan +2 that was way back in the 1980s ) I've got a is250 now but still miss my is200 , what colour is your car ? Is it auto or manual , I had the manual and found the gearbox perfect , have you had the cambelt replaced ? I think recommended to be done every 60k or 4 years whichever comes first. I just thought I would mention it ......look after your car and it will last you well, Allan
  14. As i have said before, customer service in the uk is rubbish mostly, not just the motor industry , you would not be treated like that on the other side of the big pond. Allan
  15. The design of the Lexus brake system is not unique to Lexus , you will find the same design on most cars of this type ie: 4 door luxury saloons, I think the problem is that there doesn't seem to be a maintenance schedule to clean then lubricate the caliper slider pins,if this is done at least every year ( depending on mileage done ) the problem would not re-occur . Allan
  16. Glad your all sorted out now, now start enjoying your your new and not that common a car ! Allan
  17. Hi Dan, yes that is an even better site, many thanks , Allan
  18. Is it just me or does anyone else find the sat nav built in to the is2 'crap ' for want of a better word, I used to use a Tom Tom in my is2 and found it far superior to the Lexus system, at least you could put full post codes in and it gave government cash camera warnings ! Allan
  19. I didn't realise that it's been running for quite a while, I only came across it while researching to buy a car for my granddaughter , I think it's such a good site for anyone looking to buy a second hand car, how long has this much detail been available ? Allan
  20. Tried this website yesterday and thought it might be of interest to you all , I wish this site was available before I bought my car it would have given me hints on poor maintenance in its past life ! https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ Allan
  21. This airbag recall affects 1.34 million cars world wide of nearly all car manufacturers , it is quite a serious safety recall which can injure people in the car, the cylinder of compressed gas that inflates the airbag can break up and injure passengers......Google takata air bags, there is a lot of information about this world wide recall. Allan
  22. Hi Lloyd , welcome to the Loc, don't rush in to buying new discs , pads and calipers, the calipers on my car were seized to the caliper housing very seized !!! After using heat and penetrating oil on the slide pins I managed to free the near side caliper slide pin but the driver side caliper was so seized solid , so I decided to replace both the rear calipers, discs and pads, this job was done curbside out side my house , so what I'm saying is this job is not that difficult . (Just make sure you have the car properly supported and chocked at the front wheels) But have look first before you do anything ! Is it brake dust or rust ? The face of the disc should be shiny with no pitting on the face , if any of the discs has pitting on the face then both discs will have to be replaced + new pads . You will have to check the caliper slide pins are free and lubricated . What is the mileage of your car ? Were there any advisory's on the last mot ? There is a good service that the dvla are doing now where you can see all the past mot history of your car,if I had had the information from this before I had purchased my car i I would have been warned by the advisory's on two previous mots that the rear brakes should be done , how you can get advisory's two years running for the same thing is beyond me ! Just one thing more , the brakes on the is2 are not the greatest , so take the wheels off and check the discs, pads and calipers properly before buying any parts. There is a very good post on this forum of how to do this job . If you need any More help just ask, plenty of people on here have had problems with rear brakes ! ! Let us know how you get on. Allan
  23. Here is a list of Lexus cars that are due for a safety recall for airbags. Recalled cars: Lexus: 2007-2011 Lexus ES - Passenger side 2010-2011 Lexus GX - Passenger side 2006-2011 Lexus IS (including IS F) - Passenger side 2002-2010 Lexus SC - Passenger side Not under recall yet, but use defective Takata inflators that will need to be replaced by 2018: 2015 Lexus IS250C, IS350C 2015-2016 Lexus GX460 Allan
  24. Welcome Lawrence, your going to love the is200, had mine for 10 years and think it was one of the best cars I've ever owned. just be a bit choosy before you buy your car with all the usual checks , there are plenty of good cars out there so don't let your heart rule your head...pick the right car and it will serve you well for many years......I will add my is200 was really bad when there was more than an inch of snow on the road ( I noticed you come from Kent ! Can get quite a lot down there ) I invested in a set of snow chains for mine cos' I live up a big hill off the main roads. But having said all that most rear wheel drive cars struggle in bad snow. Let us all know when you get your car. Allan
  25. Perhaps get my passengers to wear body armour ! I do agree though ,air bags have saved more people than they have injured. Allan
