  1. Is it just the passenger side air bag affected ? If so would it be safer to turn it off until the repair is done ? Allan
  2. Does anybody know what the problem with the air bag is ? My car has gone 10 years with the fuel sensor gasket not leaking so I'm not that concerned to much about that, if it fails I should at least get a warning of petrol smell . If the air bag fails I would get no warning until it's to late ! Allan
  3. welcome to the club Phil, nice choice of car, enjoy ! Allan
  4. Five minutes after booking my car in at Edgware Road they called me to say it had a passenger side air bag recall and that it would make sense to have both jobs done at the same time , they informed me that they are waiting for parts to come for the air bag and they would contact me when the parts were in, it would probably be about a month or so , I am looking towards the end of July for the car to have the work done. Allan
  5. Yes your 100% right John ( I didn't look at the pics before I posted ! ) the rust on the outer edges of the inner disc is strange, I would say the corrosion was present on the disc and the the pads were replaced at some stage with this corrosion in place already . The replacement pads would have worn away to the shape of the rusty discs, what do you think ? The rust on the face of my discs was over the whole face not just the edges which pointed me to seized calliper pins. Allan
  6. corrosion on the face of the disc would normally mean the caliper slide pins are seized and the pads are not connecting with the discs, i found this out when i first bought my car, so replaced discs ,pads and calipers, no problems since. Allan
  7. The car does a check through everything else when you first turn it on, I would have thought a seized aircon compressor is quite a important part of the car to go wrong ! It must be important because Lexus wanted over £800.0 for it ...they must think I'm stupid , Lexus don't make compressors they buy them from Denso , so that's £ 400.0 you could save with 2 phone calls !!....... I was quoted by JEM in Colindale £ 1500. 00 to supply and fit a new compressor and then and only then could they gas it up to test for any leaks !! So if the condenser has a leak that will be another £ 340.00 + labour thank you very much so now I'm looking at a £2000.00 bill for fixing the aircon can you believe it because I couldn't .......any way after phoning around I ended up taking the car away from them and taking it to a company called Alpinair based in west London could not have been happier with the quote I got from them to Supply and fit compressor and supply and fit new condenser seals etc..£922.00 including the dreaded VAT... So people don't take the bull**** that you are told by these ( in my opinion ) rip off merchants , make a few phone calls and use the Internet because you can save a lot of 'wedge' £1100. Was saved I this instance . Allan
  8. Had the car diagnosed today , just about the worse thing it could have been ....a seized aircon compressor ! Just waiting for the quote now, the strange thing is that I had no warning lights or unusual noise does this seem correct ? Has Any body had this happen to thier car and any idea what the cost is likely to be , ta very much, Allan
  9. The car is going in Wednesday to be checked , hope it's nothing too expensive ! Thanks for all the replies, Allan
  10. Yes I think your right, I've just been reading a post on the USA Lexus forums , it put me right off attempting it myself ! What really has given me the hump is the car was perfect before it went in for its yearly service 3 weeks ago !! Allan
  11. Had the aircon regassed a year ago so maybe it is the condenser, anybody ever fitted a new condenser ? Is it a easy job ? Allan
  12. I've got the same problem ! I had the car serviced 3 weeks ago ,also had a new serpentine belt fitted , the aircon was regassed the last service a year ago, could the fitter have left a connection off when fitting the new belt ? Any clue as to what to look for would be appreciated, Allan
  13. I think Honda are a top manufacturer, they support motor sport of all types then put what they learn into their road vehicles, I have a 25 year old vfr750 that stil runs and performs like a 2 year old bike also my wife runs a 16 year old Honda Civic coupe which is great car.....But I stil love my Lexus for comfort and luxury. Allan
  14. Only Honda could make an advert like that, keeps you entertained the whole way through, love it, made me smile . Allan
  15. Did you solder the wires ? That seems as if you have a bad connection on one or more of the connections, it's worth having a look, it would irritate me if my mirrors didn't fold in when locking the car now and being a bit forgetful in my old Age l just look at my car to know if it's locked or not. Allan
  16. Hi Pete, not quite sure what you mean by losing the memory on the seats ? I would replace the battery's on both fobs as a matter of course anyway, it was the first thing I did when I got my car, it's simple to do and the battery's are cheap as chips from eBay . Allan
  17. hi iftikhar, I'm not 100% sure but Belfast is part of the U.K. So you should not need to ' import ' to the UK, it should be the same as buying a car from Scotland or Wales. Allan
  18. My is200 was the only car out of six to get stuck at work a couple of years ago ( the only rwd drive car ) the snow was only 7.5 to 10.0 cm deep....so added weight with 3 bags of sand in the boot , got out of work OK with the help of a few people pushing, When I got to the road where I live I got stuck again, it has quite a hill so I had to shovel my way about 1/4 mile to my house I was well cream crackered ! The solution I used after that was I kept the sand in the boot if even a snowflake fell or looked like it might and I bought a set of snow chains which I used twice to get me up the hill where I live never got stuck after that. I just wonder how the is250 will work in snow ? Any want to buy a set of snow chains for a is200 !! .... And I agree with turning traction control and snow button off in conditions of snow if you can't get going. Allan
  19. Hi Ian, I owned a is200 for 8 years, it was one of the best cars I've ever owned....your power steering problem is most likely to be the drive belt for the power steering pump or power steering reservoir needs topping up, after checking both these are ok........start the car get it warmed up....then turn the steering fully from lock to lock a couple times..........let us know how you get on....I would put money on it being a slack belt though, good luck.... Allan
  20. Just to add my two pennies worth,...just replace the front side light bulbs with led bulbs....these are quite bright, so turn your side lights on you then have DRL at very little cost and no more than half hours work. Allan
  21. Hi Pete, I would think the motor for the blind is built into the blind unit at the bottom part of the unit if that makes any sense ?
  22. I forgot to add ..........I love my Lexus , always will ,that is until it lets me down big time ! Like my BMW failure.... Put me off BMW for life after owning them for for six years, I'm now on my 2nd Lexus in a ten year love of my cars ( I still miss my is200 ) I suppose you just got to be carefull which model you choose ... Allan
  23. Hi John, yes I did understand that , your advise was good And the right way to sort the issue, but I would think after 9 months from first posting about this problem Megan and her parents have probably sold both of their cars and gone to another car manufacturer.......the point I was trying to make is surely if Lexus did the modification to the engine then Lexus are liable for the failure... For a four year old engine to fail is a manufacturing fault ......I'm not a gambling man but I would lay money that this would not happen in the USA ? The customer would have had the engine replaced under warranty ....... It would interesting to know the final outcome of this post... As in many posts we will probably never know ?..... Allan
  24. My philosophy is look after your car and it will look after you Allan
