I have the same "situation". The shorter plate fits really nicely into the bumper recess. I have looked everywhere for the right size blind grommets, but no luck so far. So, as the bumber is dark blue, I just used a couple nof bits of black insulation tape to go over the hole. Seems to do the trick ok!

On my UK '95 MKiii car I just raised the seat and removed the 4 bolts. I was an easy job, see this link for some pics too. I'm not sure if I saw any seat airbags, but I did not need to unplug the seat from it's ECU. Why do you need to remove the seat..... good luck anyway. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...mp;#entry471361

Insurance

I too 'discovered" this restriction when I took insurance with the RAC. Their response was the same, removed due to abuse. I'm going back to directline next year, cheaper too now. -
I am needing some roof bars for my Mk III LS400. I'm not concerned if they are Lexus items or aftermarket brands. I have searched this site and can not find any information about models that will fit, except that Mk II bars will not fit a Mk III car. Does any one have any Mk III bars that they do not need any more, or could you supply a model number from them? Many thanks in advance and a Happy New Year to all.

OK all, the journey was pretty hard, but now I know the answer and how to get to it, the fix was actually pretty easy. As other threads suggested, it was the mechanism on the tunnel side rail which had come appart. All I had to do was to reseat the worm gear which had a nut on the end of it and then screw the retainer cap back in to hole the worm inside. Access was gained by raising the seat, removing the front lower cover (just 2 screws) and then undoing the 4 bolts that hold the seat to the floor. I could then recline the whole seat unit and get full access to the parts that needed reassembly. All done in about 20 mins with no costly new parts needed. Actually, I am a couple of quid up now, I found a £2 coin under the seat rail. This picture shows the worm with nut on the end being reinstered, it does go in a bit more. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.taylor8817/...%20seat%201.JPG This shows the retainer cap going on, it screws right in till it is flush http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.taylor8817/...%20seat%202.JPG This show the seat tilted right back, the ECU is still connected so it can be tested in situ, but take great care not to trap any fingers, the motors are very powerfull. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.taylor8817/...%20seat%203.JPG Oh how much more comfortable the car is to drive now that the seat is in "MY POSITION".

I am having trouble finding this rod/cog/spline that others have mentioned as the problem. Does anyone have any pictures or a diagram or a detailed description of the cog/rod. I am begining to wonder if the MkIII seat is different from the MkI/II as all the "problem seat posters" seem to have Mk I or II cars. Many thanks in advance for any more assistance.

I lent my pride and joy to a friend, he is tall with long legs, so moved the seat right back, that OK. Now, it will not move forewards for me. The motor works but only on the door side, the rail on the transmission side seems to be jammed. When I ask the seat to move foreward it just skews at bit and twists an inch or so. Now I can hardly reach the steering wheel or pedals. I read with interest that others have suffered the same, but only in Mk I or II cars. I can not get much access under the seat, there does not seem to be a bar with a splined wheel on it like others have described, but also I can not see a 2nd motor either. By the way, all of the other seat controls function correctly. I have taken the back off, but can only see the rake, lumber and head rest motors and mechanisms. Does anyone know how the MK III seat works, I need help with my back seat driving position. Actually, the saving grace is that there is still loads of space in the rear footwell even though the drivers seat is fully back.

Ls400 Judder

I suppose the garage have given the throttle body a very good clean. If you think the injectors may be blocked at all, it is jut a tenner each to have them serviced. see here....http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/index.htm -
this can happen on my car too, which is a MK III, different to your 1990. Normally I lock the car with the key fob, just blip it once. Then open the car with the key in the door, the alarm sounds off. This is because the alarm is only activated and de-activated by the key fob and now it thinks it is being broken into. All I do is shut the door, activate and deactivate the alarm with the key fob (2 blip), then all is ok to open the door. Often it is 'others' who need to get into my car who do this because they dont know what they are doing and assume that the key in the door will be ok.

The AA states that on average drivers get a puncture every 96,000 miles. Anyway, you should carry a can of tyre lube, for the just in case situation. Also, keep a spare at home, all packed up ready for shipping, just in case you are away and get caught out. for about £25-£30, DHL can get it anywhere in the uk for noon the next day, if you can wait for it.

I often notice when listening to the radio, mostly BBC Radio 2 & Radio 4, that the reception goes completly off for about 1 or 2 seconds and then comes back on again. I do tend to have the "TI" traffic information function set on all of the time. Does anyone else suffer this or anyone know what the problem is or perhaps have an explanation?

cleverdick, I'm with you 100% on this one, its the fairest way to tax road users PLUS it taxes the folk that drive around without tax PLUS Gorden would be collecting a bit more from all those tourists and Polish cars I see driving around. Gordon would be better off putting another few pence on a litre of fuel. HOWEVER, just look at this costings example, for my LS400: 20,000 miles a year at 25 mpg, thats 800 gallons a year or about 3600 litres. To raise the current duty of £180 a year, this would be another 5 pence a litre.

Any luck Ian? What is the outcome? I'm intereested as I have the same model. I had a problem with the imobiliser stuck on, it was fixed over the phone by Colin the service manager at Lexus Guildford (he was a technician in 1995 and knows the cars). I do have a key fob (just 1) and the fault was that the slider on the key fob was resting in the middle, rather than switched to one side or the other. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...;hl=colin+searl
