  1. In the boot of my '95 Mk III there is a big slot, 22 inches long, 2 and a quarter wide and 7 inches deep. Any one know what accessory is meant to be stowed here?
  2. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/repairmanual.html I did option 6, and downloaded the complete manual in 1 day, cost 10 USD. Just for a week, I re registered my credit card to a relatives USA address. After the down load, I cahanged it back to my address.
  3. If you can hear the starter just Wheering, it could be that the internal clutch inside the motor has gone. This happened to me and requires replacement. Once you get it out, you will be able to turn the pinion gear by hand in both directions, I have a spare MKI/II starter, p-n 28100-50030, if you wish for it. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=58196
  4. Ruud, PM your email to me and I will emial you what i did to replace mine. It was a reasonably tough job, requiring some dexterity, but well worth it, and still strong 3 years later.
  5. John, The problem with mine was just that the slider (for silent / blipping mode) was set in the middle. I did have another problem when the battery went completely dead. After a recharge the alarm was activated, probably because it thought that the car had had the battery disconnected by a theif. Scorpion were no help at all, just said that the fob re programming machine died so they chucked it out. I "think" I fixed it the second time by connecting battery, holding fob button for 10 secs while pointing at widscreen, (to re-synch fob with car) and then locked car with fob, unlocked it and it started. or something like that. Well done John,
  6. If any one is interested in the starter motor differences, I have 2 of them. I have a MKI/II Generation 1 p/n 28100-50030 for cars upto 1994 and a 1995 starter of my MKIII Generation2 p/n 28100-50050. Main difference is the length. The gen 2 is 3 cm shorter. So if you put a gen1 starter into a gen 2 car, the loom is now not long enough to reach the main +ve 12 volt bolt on connection as so for the solenoid connection too. I did not want to abuse my loom and try and streach it, as the car is getting old and it may have broken in my hands. Also they are different internally. They have an internal gearing to connect the motor shaft to the stater gear. Each motor has different number of teeth on them. Also the clutch gear is not interchangable, because the main shat is of a different diameter, gen 1 is 25.6mm and gen 2 is 26.0mm. Sorry that pic is not too clear, but you should see what I mean about the length and connection points. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.taylor8817/...%20Starters.JPG
  7. In todays climate, I consider the Mk-III ('95-'97)the best model...... most economical, according to manufacturer specs. I get average 25mpg overall and over 30mpg on a motorway run at 65mph.
  8. BUMP Does any one have a Mark-III starter motor spare, even a failed one, because I am only needing the clutch mechanism from inside it. Part number 28100-50050 ( or maybe a 51 or 52 will do too) is what I am after PLEASE !
  9. Steve, Maybe the part numbers from here will help you? http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/diag_1rrQEUJ.png
  10. Steve_2006, Thank you very much for your offer of parts and help. just waiting for your PM. A 1000 thanks, Simon.
  11. One of the internal gear componants has failed Does anyone have an old one they no longer need, Mk III would be best but any other one will probably do as it seems that internal parts are all mostly the same. I am willing to pay for it, and postage too. http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/diag_1jck038.png PLEASE contact me by return, PM or call 07966 826 706. Simon Taylor
  12. Thanks Steve, that is exactly how I have tested mine. Do you have any experience of the start gears?
  13. there is a unit in the engine bay, which is the alarm siren. I have a Mk iii too. The alarm is a Scorpion , T3000 I think, and they were fitted by dealers at time of import to comply with the then new Cat-1 Thatcham alarm specs. there is some detail on the thatcham alarm site. To turn the siren off, you should have a key, a barrel type with notches in it, The siren has a rubber protector over the key hole. If you can not find it, I can take a picture tomorrow for you. maybe this will help too, but my problem was that the car was disabled too and would not start either. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...amp;hl=scorpion
  14. Sometimes it is a clicker, requireing new brushes etc. and sometimes it starts up, but I can hold the gear wheel and there is not force within it. This is why I suspect the gears. I do not know how the clutch inside it works, so I dont know if this is how it is supposed to behave when bench tested. Has any one bench tested a starter from an LS400? Has any one taken the starter apart and seen how the gears work, (or dont work) and made gear repairs?
  15. Has any one open up the starter and rebuilt it? including the gear parts. Ok, I have a starter motor that is a "clicker", when turning the key it just "clicks". After a few attempts of turning the key, the old beast fires up and runs fine. This has been the case for a few months, and also I repleced the battery last week, because it not keeping charge. Turns out the old battery is dated April 2001. Last week, the car will ONLY click and I had to get towed home by the RAC. Sometimes the starter does connect and turn, but it just does not engage or turn the motor over. You can hear it just whizzing round on its own, actually it does not sound like the starter is a beefy motor, but then again I have never heard a starter motor on a bench test. SO, I have removed the starter motor, yes it was buried at the back of the Vee, but it is out now. The contacts looked "ok", but they are well worn and need replacement, which I will do. I mounted the starter motor in a vice, attached it to a spare 12V battery with a set of jump leads, and i ran a trigger wire with a spade connector on one end from the starter ignition switch connector and used the other bare end to touch the +ve side of the battery. Sometimes it is just a clicker, ok.... that is a contacts problem, and sometimes the gear ejects and turns, but there is no drive in it. Actually, I can hold the gear between my fingers, it does not have any load in it while the starter motor is turning. There is no way that this will turn any engine over. Has any one actually dismantled a starter motor, because I suspect that I have an internal gear failure and would like some advice about dismantling and what to expect to see inside it.
  16. When I read the opening post, I immediately wondered why LPG and "rear weight" was stated as the culprit. Surely, if your car is running LPG, your petrol tank is most likely to be empty-ish and so the LPG weight is less of a problem. Unless of course the LPG tank itself is very heavy. On my 1995 LS400, the rear tyres were excessivly worn on the inside edges..... down to the steel beads YIKES!. Upon closer examination, it was clear to see that the rear upper wishbone rubbers were badly worn. I have since replaced both rubbers on the wishbone with American replacements at about 35 USD a side, as Lexus GB were only able to offer complete wishbones at £280 GBP. EACH !!! Might be well worth checking for any play on the wheel Mike.
  17. My Wipers stopped working and so did the washers, so I replaced the blown fuse. Fuse blew again after 1 quick test, :crybaby: so it looks like something more serious. As per http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...32&hl=wiper :) I took the wiper asembley off and dismantled the wiper motor. There is plenty of brushes left, so I cleaned them, and the armature with some solvent. After re-assembly I connected the wiper motor to a spare battery and tested it as per the Repair manual (using pins 1 and 2/3 for slow/fast speeds). It works fine and I also measured that it draws 2 or 4 amps depending on speed, drawing a litle more current upon start up. I ran it for at least a minute, no problem and also several short bursts. :) I do not think that it is the wiper motor which is blowing the fuse? This is a Mark III '95 car, I think the assembly is the same as Mk II/I. Has any one had a similair problem? Does any one have any suggestions of what else I can check or test or do? There is another motor on the wiper assembly, for parking the wipers I think, but I can not find and info on net or in repair manual (mechanical and electrical) about it. At the moment I am driving about with no wipers and a bucket of water/sponge in the boot. MANY THANKS in advance for any help at all?
  18. Get your suspension rubbers checked. One of my front lower inner joints had gone and there was serious wobble under braking and general wobble when cruizing. If they are gone, you can get replacement bushed from LPD Auto in the USA, from ebay.com Good luck.
  19. Just ask them for an "Owners Club" loyalty discount, or a trade discount for cash. Alternitivly, try Sewell Lexus in Texas, and then onward ship (thats your challenge) The US prices are about two thirds of UK prices. I collect my booty of parts when on holiday in USA last year.
  20. I tried the "turkey baster" trick when I did mine, but there was a mesh filter in the resivoir and so it was still holding half the fluid. I had to resort to the "lots of rags" trick as a plan-B.
