  1. Good point GoldfingerLS, I'll just go that right now. Infact, with the siren off, the car does NOT bleep 3 times when the alarm is enabled. Also, an easy way to tell if the incar ultrasonic motion sensors are enabled, is the number of flashes from the indicators when the car is locked. 2=off and 3=on and this is controlled by the slider switch on the remote control. A good feature for only enableing the imoboliser, and not the alarm, while leaving pets etc in the car.
  2. I have a 95 MkIII LS400 :) and on Saturday the key fob would not unlock the car :o . The key would open the door but the alarm went off (although I could turn off the siren under the bonnet) and the engine was imobolised (would not start, just completely dead, but all lights worked etc). I tried a few things, (lock, unlock, checked all interior lights working, battery ok etc.) called Lexus, but as it was Saturday not much could be done as the full tech team were not available. But today, I am one of the happiest people in the world :D :D :D , and probably a good few hundred pounds better off. My LS400 has a square remote with 2 buttons. The black button activates and locks or deactivates and unlocks the car. There is a red LED which comes on when the black button is pressed. The red button is a panic bitton which can sound the alarm, there is a slider switch on one side (for turning on/off the in car motion sensors) and a 3 pin connector on the other side (probably for programming). It seems that '95 and '96 cars have a Scorpion T5000 alarm and imoboliser fitted to them. They are individually matched with the 2 original key fobs (but I only have 1), so if 1 part of the system fails, all 3 (alarm, imoboliser and key fobs) need to be replaced. Economically, it is easier to discard it and just fit a complete new 'aftermarket' system, especially as Scropion ceased trading a couple of years ago, but have since started up again. http://www.scorpionauto.com/keyfobs.html GREAT NEWS, spoke with Colin Searl, the service manager at Lexus Guildford and a very helpfull man, he was a tech in '95 and he fixed it over the phone for me. Under his instruction, all I did was to slide the key fob slider up and down a couple of times and HEY PRESTO, the car unlocked itself and now I can start the engine. All fixed. It seems that if the slider is not fully at one end of it's travel, then problems can occur. Perhaps this happened while it was in my pocket. Oh yes, this is why I drive an LS400, Great car, Great service and Great value (actually I nearly bought another LS400, just as an interim to get me to work). :) :D :) :D :)
  3. toffla, Commiserations on your company car. Same happened to me, however our company offers a 'buy out' option. They pay me £380 per month and I run my own car. As I do not need to pay any company car tax, I actualy get about £330 pm month in my hand. Why not ask your company if they would be willing to do something similair. If you were to leave the company it is better for both sides. You have a car which you own and they are not left with the expence of a car without a driver.
  4. My experiences with ebay are that things look interesting on the screen, but when they come through the door they are still 'interesting' but maybe not so usefull. English sence of humour, you have to laugh at yourself :)
  5. I think the thread title gives it "Ls400 Mk3 Alarm Fob" so it will be a 95-97 LS400.
  6. Will do shortly, but I thought I'd give LOC memebers first refusal on here.
  7. A 6 CD holder cassette, purchased in error. Should fit cars with the boot mounted CD player, this item will not fit my car, a Mark III with the CD player mounted in the passengers dash. £7 including postage. PM me if you would like it.
  8. Try Swift Salvage near Littlehampton on the south coast. Many owners on the forum have posted good reports of them. beat you to it Chips229!!!
  9. 6 months tax is the same as half of 12 months PLUS 10%. If you want to tax the car for 8 months, buy 12 and send it back to DVLA a few days before the end of the last month you want it. You will get a full refund on the months not used. You can not get a refund over the counter, it has to be posted to the DVLA and you can get the refund form from the post office, it is not downloadable.
  10. GoldfingerLS, when you changed your Transmission oil, how quickly did the oil flow out of the pipe which was disconnected from the radiator? 10 seconds per litre ??? Did you change the transmission sump oil first? Also, did you notice any improvement in driving and changing gear afterwards? Lastly, I was wondering about having 2 helpers. 1 on the key (for back up, just in case) and 1 topping up the fluid as I collect the expelled fluid. I can rig up a device that tops up the filler at a similair rate to the expelled oil from the radiator. I was thinking of a big funnel with a hose and also a clam to have some adjustment as we go along.
  11. have a look through the tutorial on lexls.com personally, I have not changed the transmission fluid.
  12. I think you will find 2 litres in the tranny sump plus another 8 in and around the gearbox which probably will not drain out. Also, some one mentioned a warning about NOT letting the box run dry. By draining it, you may create an air lock ...... or two.
  13. I would sugest a Lexus dealer, then you will also know if it is worth looking elsewhere for a big saving. I presume you know where the sensor is located.
  14. Page 46 of the Jan 10 issue of Autocar does have a review of the LS460. Autocar Verdict "Brilliantly refined, but not quite special enough" 4 out of 5 stars. HOWEVER, page 35 under "What's coming when - the dates your dealer won't be telling you" June 2007 LEXUS LS600h a hybrid 6.0 litre maybe ????
  15. Jellybean, I admire people that will put their heads up over the papapit, stand up for themselves and their belifs until proved incorrect and not just sitting back quietly and saying nothing. I keep all my petrol receipts and input them into a spreadsheet since I got my LS400 18 months ago. This calculates mpg per tank as well as overall mpg and pence per mile. I can assure you that my arithatic is correct, I got a grade A at "O" level, even this is worth about 9 GCSEs these days. HOWEVER, most sincere apologies to you and every one else who has been trying to get 36mpg. I mis read my data, actually I 'only' got 31mpg. I have not been on here for a few months, so I missed all your good posts. Again, sincere apologies for my mistake.
  16. Last year I had a luchtime meeting in Wigan, so I was not pressed for time while driving up from Surrey. I tried to cruise at 60 and came back via Wexham and a visit to demon tweeks. 36 mpg !!! Worst case was the kids half term, racing around on short trips taking them all about around town between friends houses, 18mpg. Still not bad for a 2 ton taxi.
  17. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/repairmanual.html option 6, just 10 USD.
  18. I looked up my tail pipe recently, it is shiny clean inside. OK, it is a Mk III, but still 11 years young, no rust anywhere else that I have found. I took some bolts off to fit a tow bar, they were like new.
  19. In the first 12 months of glorious LS400 ownership, I did: 22,000 miles averaged 25.4 mpg spent £3,486 of fuel which is 16p per mile. I imagine at £1700 for an LPG conversion, it will pay for itself in a year. Thanks for the suggestions chaps, but for me a citroen hardly has the same class, the mercs I have been in seemed to have hard seats, not sure about the 7 series, But I'd rather not buy a left hooker. So, LPG conversion it is.
  20. I'm with Maneesh on this one, get it checked out. As for a long journey in an MX-5, rain and storms are forecast for tonight and tomorrow.
