Ed, dont dispair, I too had exactly the same problem after I let the battery go dead while I was working of bush replacements which took me several weeks. What ever I did, the alarm and imoboliser would be on, nothing happened when I turned the key. 1/ What happend to make this problem happen for you. 2/ disconnect the battery, wait 1 min, reconnect it, hold the button for 10-20 seconds while pointing towatds the rear view mirrowr like normal, then I think I tried the red panis button, then I locked the car with the black button, opened it with the fob and then it all worked fine again. I think it is just patience and trying lots of things and eventually it will be ok. and I trust you know how to silence the siren, otherwise your neighbors will be hating your waft machine before long. Simon.

Put the battery on charge overnight.... and in the morning..... 1/ wait 2 mins, just for the battery to settle a touch, and then measure the voltage on the battery, I would expect about 12.5 volts plus or minus a volt. 2/ Start the car, hopefully it will start, and measure the voltage while it is running. You should have 14.4 volts. This would be good and indicates that the alternator is "working". 3/ Put the heated rear screen and all lights (full too) and lots of other accesories, and again measure the voltage. The alterator is now having to support quite a load. If it is still 14.4 then the allternator is "working well". Good Luck, Enjoy the pub and I'm sure your good wife wont mind a bit of an extra walk, a torch lit romantic stroll under the stars.......

kpnuts, I am looking to install a "Toroidal tank", donut shape that goes in the spare wheel well. I guess you have a Cylinder tank? because I wish to use the boot, i feel that the spare wheel is expendable. AA researh shows that on average cars get punctures every 96,000 miles these days, so I am happy to take a chance on that.

I am just planning an LPG installation and wished to know what the biggest size of Toroidal tank I could fit. I have looked at http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/sizes.html and I was hoping to get a 95 litre tank in, 76 litre fill. I think I read some where that it was possible, but a little "boot work" was required to reshape part of the wheel well to make it fit. Not a problem, my LS is a dailey driver and I'm more interested in milage rather than a minor modification. This 95 Litre tank would be a 72cm diameter tank and 27 cm high. Has anyone got an LS400 Mk-III with a 95L (76L fill) tank this big installed? And, any one had any experience of Chris Seaton at PFI Fuel systems in Alresford Hants? He has quoted me £2100 all in. http://www.p-i-fuelsystems.co.uk/lpg_conversions.htm

My flanges were leaking on my LS400. I used gun gum type paste and then used a massive jubilee clip and tightened it up around the flange joint to hold the gun gum in. At MOT time, after it had held fine for a year, I just loosed the jubilee clip and re packed some more paste in to the joint. WOW, so much quieter afterwards.

I have been told that when the LS400s were imported in 1995, the dealers had the alarms fitted to meet the Thatcham cat-1 standard. Normally they are located behind the glove box. To install the alarm, the fitter had to cut into the main loom and only black wires are used to wire it it, so as it is harded to bypass by a theif. Getting the glove box out is pretty eacy, 2 nuts and a about 5 screws. I have 2 LS400s, the one registered in March 95 (VIN JT153 2000 0146xx) has a Scorpion 5000 Alarm with 2 button remote, and other registered in Feb 95 (VIN JT153 2000 00045xx) has a clifford alarm, not sure of model number but instruction booklet has copyright 2001 on the back, so i suspect it is an aftermarket model. "maybe" bacause your car is Jan 95, it might not have had a Thatcham alarm fitted, just missing the January start. Hopefully the alarm horn in the engine bay can provide some clues, otherwise a gentle call to Lexus GB might help if they have records from 1995, they will ask you for the VIN. But the little key on your keyring is the same as my Scorpion horn key. await your feedback.

Looking at the little round key that you also show, I suspect that you have an alarm under the bonnet, probably under the foot of the windscreen on tha passenger side. This little round key is to silence the car alarm siren. You may also see some estra wires entering the main loom which goes into the cabin here too. What month of 1995 is your car. 1995 was when lexus and Thatcham started installing cat-1 alarms. look here for some more details/clues. http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdfs/compliance.pdf Page 17 lists LS400 1995 twice, 3rd and 8th rows down. I have a Scorpion unit and can give some advice if you wish.

Question
simontaylor replied to John Wisbey's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
I have heard that some car alarms "report" what the last error code or activation attempt was, by a number of bleeps, or flashes of the dash security light. Have you had the battery disconnected recently? -
They quoted me £452 plus vat and it is exchnge too. you do not say what problems you are having, it could be a raly and not the starter unit??? From your avatar, it looks like you have a Gen2 car (Mk III 95-97). The starters on gen1 and gen2 are different, both in size and internals, so not realyy exchangable. If you have a clicker, and normally it weill be spasmodic starting, you can get a contact rebuild kit from the USA, about 20 USD. Exchange units are available from Camberly Auto Factors, 01252 517272, maybe others too, not sure on price. Exchange unit for the Lexus stealler is 450 +vat. It is a reasonably big job to do, but even a semi compitant home mechanis can do it. You will ideally need some gaskets too. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.taylor8817/...%20Starters.JPG http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...mp;#entry671671 lots of info on USA forum too. If you order 1 from CAF and you are not near, they are 1 mile from my home, i'd be happy tocheck it for you before they send it out, or I could post it to you for a tenner. Good Luck
