  1. Few good points above.. Removing DPF immoral and illegal - not an option. DPF regen should not produce black smoke, DPF regen can not happen in traffic either - there are certain criteria to be met for it to happen: Speed above 50MPH (perhaps different on Lexus, but in that ballpark), engine at working temp, probably above 2k RPM. If it produces black smoke in slow traffic, then it is not DPF. Maybe ERG, 5th injector, other injectors, leaking turbo. IS220d engine it pretty bad, but no different from terrible engines found in similar era diesel cars e.g. BMW320d would have exactly same problems, perhaps a little more reliable (same for 2L Audi, MB diesels, 1.9TDI is probably one exception - reliable engine, still issues with DPF/ERG on newer cars). What makes IS220d comparably worse is that strange 6 speed manual and no auto option. As for smoking diesel... they are all over the place.. new, old, Lexus.. other makes ... I have started making compilation from my dashcam, maybe one day I will finish it and share it. I see at least 10 badly smoking cars on my drive to work and back every day.
  2. Same here ... I though it is much worse to put diesel in petrol car, then vice versa (obviously if you can somehow manage to do that :D). There was test on youtube ( I believe by 5th gear) and they didn't find any damage as long as the system is not left for long time with wrong fuel. After refuelling with correct liquid it should be fine... unless you want to get new car, because damage to fuel system on IS220d would mean it is write-off (new fuel system would definitely be more then the car worth) at current prices.
  3. Not sure what is the problem with Castrol. If anything is one of the "best" brands around, if not best... certainly in top 10 of best brands money can buy. Edge is great fully synthetic oil.. slightly overkill for IS250. Most of the time I use Magnatec and I agree the it gets dirty quite quickly, I tend to believe it is because it is darker colour from new (it contains metal nano particles), hence visually it looks darker much quicker then conventional oil. As well Magnatec in not real synthetic (it is hydro-cracked). As far as mileage... it is not concern for me - the key to engine longevity are early oil changes - I would not recommend to have any oil for over 1 year or 6k miles. If you doing a lot of miles say 12k in 6 month, then yes you can probably keep same oil for that specific mileage/time period. Otherwise oil needs changing at least annually and preferably twice a year. I do 12k miles/year and I do 2 oil changes.
  4. I was late to the party... had same problem 2 month ago, same experience - quick job. Got the stud from local Toyota dealership for £5.78, didn't need the nut.
  5. are they drilled, slotted or any other way "Cool"?... my driller disks are 100% warped and cracked. Took a single stop from ~140MPH to around 90MPH on German autobahn and they got badly warped and I can see cracks around drilled holes. Just accepted that as part of looks.. 😄 On serious note next time I am going for C-hook, bet never for driller design
  6. Is this in anyway different from the link in my first reply ? 😄 @Comedian - either way you look it is neither 15, nor 17 speakers, nor locations.... I guess I just repeated ML blurb because they state there are such number involved in the set-up somehow. It seems RC has 12 locations and I tend to believe 16 cones, (rear 2 coaxial speakers with 3 cones each). Not sure how they count 17. IS mk3 on the other hand has 14 locations, same as mk2, but all components rather then coaxial.. not sure where they get 15 speakers from. They both mark Amplifier in schematics, bet that is hardly a "speaker".. some audiophile magic is going on there...
  7. seems like very american type of cheesy advert... obviously must contain "made in USA" as sort of proof of blind nationalism and poor quality.
  8. What add? - It is good I am running ad-blocker...
  9. I think his luck is spent now, can forget lottery tickets at very least for this life.
  10. Probably hugely underestimated the effort and time needed to sale something as rare. @Tomag23 as for the price £11999 is not strange at all on ebay, last year there were several cars sold in £10000 range. The only difference this might be lower miles and as we know well maintained. So 12k for this specific IS-F would be good deal, but by no means strange price.
  11. Same here, had both ML and non-ML and it was literally very close - 13 speakers vs. 14 speakers and wattage very similar. I agree ML could get more clarity from good source, but hardly any difference from compressed formats. Going from mk2 to mk3 I found 10 speaker Premium sound system if not as good as 13 speaker in mk2, still adequate. Haven't noticed much difference between ML and non-ML again... but 6 speaker poverty line standard set-up in IS/RC was criminal an inappropriate to be in any car... never mind Lexus. Interestingly, ML decided that larger IS (more cabin volume) can do with 15 speakers, but smaller RC needs 17...
  12. Might bet stupid to ask, but if nothing comes-up... have you checked your battery? I assume RAC would have checked it...
  13. How he survived hitting the tree sideways is still the mystery, obviously passenger would have had no chances:
  14. I agree you better of leaving rust alone then covering with any sort of trim (even after fixing). As for whole panel repaint - that would be standard (good) practice and depending on colour maybe only option e.g. you can do sort of "smart repair" on solid colour (like mine astral black), but definitely not a way to go on any metallic colours. Considering, quite sharp style lines around front arches I tend to believe smart repair job would be doable and potentially easy to hide (using style lines). It is hard to advise without picture...
  15. Actually, I never thought it would look that good. I know Mazda MX5 is considered one of the best buys for fun roadster, but frankly I am not big fan of how the latest iteration looks like., whereas GT86 looks brilliant! Now what I said above - I still think Toyota has not missed anything and GT86 works perfectly for what I was meant to be, however I never said the should not make the convertible of it. Would that make financial sense for them maintaining 2 models instead of one? I am not sure... but I would choose GT86 convertible over Mazda MX5 any day... just purely on looks, at the same time GT86 performs just as well if not better.
  16. I think they wanted to make modern version of AE86, sort of nostalgia thing... and I guess they succeeded in that sense (something Celica spectacularly failed to do because of FWD). It was mean to be cheap, agile, sporty coupe which makes perfect base for variety car racing events like slaloms, drifts etc. That they achieved with ease.. it is light, easy to maintain, cheap, fun to drive, easy to master etc. I don't think they missed the trick by not making convertible, quite opposite they focused on something and kind of perfected it for specific purpose. There is huge cultural revival of affordable coupes racing, load of even and great advertisement for the brand, great customer introduction as well as mostly they attract young owners, who later progress up the ladder either like Toyota Supra or Lexus way.
  17. S2000 is quite hard to replace, even thought it is Honda.. it seems to have ticked all the right boxes there are to tick, back in the day literally pushing boundaries beyond believing.
  18. funny enough I was proof reading some T&C for another department and they had a line there: "... you should not copy or alter any documents, software or hardware we send you via e-mail to you..." Took me some explaining to do that unfortunately you cannot send hardware via e-mail... sort of related with you "software accommodation". I am sure if that member would transfer himself into software reality - then pushing FWDs would not be an issue there.
  19. At least it is not FWD, otherwise we would need to calculate pushing... and pulling... and pushing.. and would need to get laboratory with soft walls..
  20. We can always get Toyota Celica nearby and do some laboratory comparison of dark matter and what not! I know which one would be nicer to drive... even though both have similar power and similar weight and both are Toyotas 🙂 I wonder what's the difference....
  21. I am sure it would be just as brilliant in FWD... you know as people say "FWD pushes from the rear" etc. 😄 😄 😄 😄
  22. super diesel if you have used parts of IS220d...
  23. Just looking to 286km/h runs it seems that they only got into 6th gear at 254km/h , that is just supports what @tomRCFcarbon say - gear ratios will not be the limit. If he does 254km/h @7000rpm in 5th we still have 3 gears to go. if gear rations are anything to go by ( I know they don't translate to real speed, but just as indicator). 5th Gear : 1.231 @7000rpm 254 (I used more realistic road speed of -10% ~228) then 6th Gear : 1.000 @7000rpm ~281 then 7th Gear : 0.824 @7000rpm ~341 then 8th Gear : 0.685 @7000rpm ~410 https://www.conceptcarz.com/s23539/lexus-rc-f.aspx 0.685 is actually very aggressive overdrive, so no surprise that theoretical speed can be something mental like 400km/h +.
  24. There is difference between plastic reinforced with CF and CF. For example BMW i8 uses both, the body monocoque is build from CFRP (or carbon fibre reinforced polymer) and body panels form plastic reinforced with CF.. which is still CFRP. The difference is the weave and in the percentage of CF... I am no expert, but body will be maybe 80% carbon fibre and 20% polymer resin, whereas panels will be maybe 5% carbon and 95% of thermoplastic (% just to illustrate example).
  25. What I meant is that Carbon reinforced plastic - the plastic part, with little bit of carbon for either added strength or purely for looks, is not the same as what I consider Carbon Fibre, which is carbon fibres layered and glued together with (polymer) resin. Now obvious abbreviations are a bit confusing as both could have the same one - CFRP. And carbon reinforced plastic parts were used in several cars now.. I (wrongly) assumed that RC-F has plastic panels reinforced with carbon when somebody mentioned CFRP, whereas it actually just have normal carbon fibre parts (at least I learned something new).
