  1. Booked mine in for the 17th. Mentioned they needed it for 5 hours. I was offered a loan car straight away but they haven't told me what it will be (probably a CT I imagine). I'm sure I'll get a health check video as well as it's quite common nowadays. A work colleague had a recall on his Honda and they did one then.
  2. Got my recall letter today. Seems it's took 5 years for them to get round to the UK models http://speedlux.com/lexus-issues-voluntary-recall-245000-gs-models/ and now there's an airbag recall on the horizon http://speedlux.com/takata-airbag-fiasco-boosts-with-more-recalls-from-toyota-ford/
  3. Your best bet is to use one of those 'find-a-part' sites where you invite breakers to quote for the part you need. e.g https://www.breakerlink.com/ http://www.partshark.co.uk/ http://www.breakeryard.com/ I paid £30 to replace a broken rear deflector recently but I agree, salvage breakers and ebay seem to be driving prices up not down. There are some parts where I've tried making an offer to some ebay sellers but each time they've rejected what I think is a sensible price. good luck with your search
  4. I'm considering a wrap on my IS250, and I do like that blue colour. Seen prices less than a grand....
  5. I believe the stock rims are 18x8.5 at the rear - so a 255/40R is the maximum you can fit.
  6. Which set did you go for? Remember to post some pictures :)
  7. I am finding it hard to fathom how Graham is able to achieve 52mpg. One thing is for sure - his brake calipers are not sticking! lol
  8. Does this look like normal wheel camber on the IS? Both look the same on full lock, straight on they look normal and the car drives OK (it does pull very slightly left)
  9. I seem to recall there was a long discussion about changing the transmission oil, have you done a search of the forums? here it is
  10. Did you use a 12V to 5V converter? Some pics might be useful...
  11. Looking good :) I am so jealous that you have the time, energy, cash and (most important) the skills to carry this off. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
  12. That link points to a set of wheels with a 112mm stud pattern. if you change this to the correct 114.3 pattern for lexus then only 9.5r/et18 size is available. Wheelbase offer mixed size sets, this a set of 18inch mixed 8J/9J with a similar design to your link http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/alloy-wheels/ava/phoenix/hyper-silver/18-inch-wider-rear I think the 9J's will take from 235 to 265 tyre width so they will be OK with either the standard fitments or you could even go for fatter 265 rear tyres. I note that the rears have a smaller offset than the rears which I assume is to compensate for the wider rear rims?? Might be worth giving them a call to confirm.
  13. You could try here http://www.precisionled.com/catalogsearch/advanced/result/?name=&description=&short_description=&sku=&price%5Bfrom%5D=&price%5Bto%5D=&make=Lexus&model=IS&year=2nd%20Gen%202006-2013
  14. Was there any warning before the chain went? I've seen this sort of quote elsewhere "if your chain/tensioner becomes worn to a dangerous degree you will hear audible symptoms before damage is done"
  15. Well the 100K service schedule says 'Replace Timing Belt (model dependant)' So it's referring to a belt and not a chain and also that it's dependant on the model. Is it really that expensive to get a timing chain replaced?
  16. True, again I would expect it is a visual inspection and I doubt they rotate the engine to inspect all the chain links. Do you know if yours has been replaced? I believe the service interval for the timing chain is 100K although I think they do it at 90K in the US
  17. That surprises me. When I was looking for my IS - they seemed to be mostly from SE england. I ended up traveling 260 miles from the North East to Kent to collect mine
  18. Lol, when I gave my daughters boyfriend a lift in my IS250 - he said 'it's a nice Dad car' so I know what you mean but your motor is something special now :)
