  1. That's my problem. Storing them would be difficult, but I can't justify the additional cost. Given that we don't often see a lot of snow where I live, and that my mileage is very low, I've decided that I am going to see how it goes this winter with new summer tyres.
  2. Yeah, they both look very nice. I'm guessing they're both black and cleaner than mine atm

Congrats Gary on finally seeing the light! Welcome to the LOC
  4. If that's a chip out of the top surface, I don't think there's much you can do. It would need filling, sanding and painting to repair the damage. Easiest thing to do would be to look out for a replacement centre console from a breakers. It is fairly simple to swap out. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262535449540?clk_rvr_id=1072553331065&rmvSB=true edit this one looks in better condition http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/252297562242?clk_rvr_id=1072474893892&vectorid=229508&lgeo=1&item=252297562242&rmvSB=true they're off a different model (heated seats) but the cup holder/lid looks like it should transfer quite easily
  5. Don't forget the pictures, we always like to see nice clean shiny car pics
  6. IMO, that price is too high. I get that the mileage is low and it's almost a 2006 reg, but still seems expensive to me. I take it you know the car's owner and it's history. Does it have SATNAV and Mark Levinson Audio? These affect the market value. Is it madness? Personally no. I bought my Lexus IS earlier this year. For the price I paid, I could have bought a far newer reg car from Ford, Renault, Skoda, etc, or a similar age car from BMW, Merc or Audi. My choice was Lexus, because I liked the look and how it felt to drive it, along with their reputation for reliability and the brand kudos. It will cost a bit more to run than your fiesta, tyres, tax, fuel etc.
  7. My IS has different rattles depending on whether it's a hot or a cold day
  8. Looks like this is still for sale, bit over budget, seller is asking top price considering year, but it's been listed for a month or two so might be negotiable. Also quite a trek from Norfolk ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-LEXUS-GS300-SPORT-AUTO-SILVER-Enthusiast-Owned-/222190356265?hash=item33bb93c729:g:SaQAAOSwepZXTKbe
  9. I suppose this is why Lexus fit those little clips for the drivers floor mat and why Lexus service reports have a tick box for the floor mats
  10. This may not be available as a spare part, you may need to replace the door handle. In any case, there are two choices really. Ring your local Lexus dealer spares dept. Hopefully they will give you price, part number and description. Then search ebay / loc8part - here's one on ebay The cover may just prise off/on instead of replacing the whole handle. You will probably have to buy a handle to swap and see. Let us know how you get on.
  11. Nice looking motor you have there. I do like the wheels :) Has the remap been worth it? Would be nice to see the modified front bumper in more detail.
  12. @Linas.P Sorry, yes that comment was for you. I wanted to know if you had owned your IS through a winter season and your experience. My history is with FWD cars and I've always managed through typical UK winters on normal tyres. But I have read that the IS is not good in Snow and Ice, even if the power switch is set to Snow mode, is this correct?
  13. So, you would run Summer tyres all year round? (If swapping tyres wasn't practical) How many years have you owned your IS?
  14. @Vintagesixtysix No worries, thanks for taking the time to check. So, the question remains. Can I / Should I fit 245/40R18 all season tyres. And if I do will it upset the handling / geometry?
  15. Hi John Congrats on your purchase, hope you have many happy miles together :) Q1: I'm pretty sure that this feature doesn't exist on the IS. In fact my pet hate (pretty much my only one tbh) is that the indicators don't auto-cancel as easily as I am used to on previous cars and the tick is so quiet I often find I'm driving along with my indicators flashing. Q2: Yeah, I agree. I know some people opt for Osram Nightbreakers and similar (do a forum search). I don't know about fitting, I've not checked. How cloudy are your lenses? Mine are quite milky, so I'm thinking about getting them polished. Q3: I believe the WIM thing is more relevant to the IS200.
  16. Pirelli don't do an All Season tyre in the right size. The Cintuarto is only available up to 17" and they don't offer anything with the right profile in the Scorpion Verde range
  17. I have an IS250 with 18" rims which are badly in need of refurb. I am thinking that if I go for a refurb I might as well get some new tryes are the same time, as the ones that are on at the moment are going to need replacement soon anyway. I understand that the IS, being rear wheel drive, is not good on snow or ice unless it has winter tyres fitted. It's not practical or affordable for me to swap wheels according to the season so I was thinking I might fit all season tyres as a compromise. However, I can't find any 255/40R18 all season tyres, no one seems to make them. So I am thinking I could fit 245/40R18 instead. Has anyone else done this? What are the implications (if any?)
  18. Yeah they really didn't like buying tyres! Have you had chance to see the documentation? I would ask if the previous owner has passed on any bills/invoices for work done. This will give you a better idea of how well it's been looked after. They are generally reliable but listen to your instincts and walk away if you're unsure. If you want to be as worry free as possible, my advice would be to buy an RX with a Lexus Extended Warranty which will cost you £995 for two years. This is only available on cars up to 10 years old and less than 140K miles, so Lexus may not cover the 56 model you are considering. The other catch is that you must have the car serviced by Lexus during the warranty period, but they do a monthly payment plan to cover this.
  19. Bought some cleaning supplies here this week. Seem to have decent range and prices. Based on my first order, they were professional and efficient as well http://www.slimsdetailing.co.uk No association with the company, just a satisfied customer.
  20. You should get the service book with the car and this should be stamped by the dealer for each service the car has had. Depending on how fastidious the previous owner(s) has been, you may also get the invoices for the services and any other work done (brakes, suspension, etc). Ideally, now you have put down a deposit, ask the dealer for a copy of the service book by email or whatever, as well as the V5. Then I would ring the lexus dealer and have a chat with the service manager. Tell them you are buying the car and ask them what services they did on the car. Lexus are normally quite helpful. It's worth giving the indy a call as well but they may or may not want to speak to you, but you won't know unless you ask. You need to establish if the 6 year/60K service has been done. At this service the spark plugs are changed, on the Lexus this involves a bit of strip down and is therefore expensive. If it hasn't, use this to haggle a better deal. If you get sight of the V5, try and contact the previous owner. Find out the history and why they decided to sell.
  21. I am mystified as to why there is so little communication between this forum, its users or moderators and Lexus UK.
  22. my neighbour has a newish diesel mercedes, runs only short local journeys and has had no issues at all. It does have a special tank for an additive called adblue so this must help with short journeys. Is there no way of using additives with the IS220D
  23. you could always ask for the tow bar back off the old car before they move it on for salvage or repair.
