Why Lexus is yet to break into the UK mainstream
Malc1 replied to Roger Bill's topic in Lexus General Discussions
ME TOO being made redundant from NatWest I bought my Vx Carlton for peanuts as my ex company car and ran that for ages . to about 215k miles actually .. brilliant car back in the early 90's .... then as an afterthought and to stave off boredom, my time with a local 2ndhand car sales business took root and I thoroughly enjoyed that time too Never understanding why someone would ever want to p/ex their brilliant used car for another off my forecourt, but hey, people will always want to spend their money on cars We then bought in a used brilliant Ls400 J54DAP thinking to sell it to a local astute business guy . a renowned Romney Marsh turf grower ........ Anyway, he bought a Mercedes from us instead and we were left with this supposed gaz guzzler which, coz of the petrol world mayhem at that time meant it was going to sit on our forecourt for ever and a day . or straight down to the auction lot to offload Thankfully we kept her in stock and I decided to use her and wow, wot an amazing car experience And as you all know, my very first Ls400, which I pensioned off at 186 k ?? and then bought my next one from a multi used car marque dealer in Windsor and following her write-off replaced her with the Ls400 I now have ( from a member on here at that time too ) ......... now some 23 years and 250k miles probably with an Ls400 hahahahaha, the new yet to be created Ls700 hydrogen might be my next foray into car spending mode 🤣 Malc -
they love your car as much as you ? Malc

maybe there's an official sticker near the engine somewhere advising when it was last done etc ? If not and a prior owner gives you info you can trust, then well, it's all down to you Cambelt going pop will just destroy the engine ............ reading many years ago that the " Bang " point for a Ls400 cambelt was 150k miles Malc

Excellent .... you could introduce Front Line Ukranian forces to it's use for a " real life adrenaline rush " chasing around Russian forces, wheelies and all, is bound to confuse them and lower their guard Malc

mine was my 1950's Triang 3 wheeler methinks ........... my first set of wheels too . I could chase and " fly " everywhere on that and no fear of it being stolen 🥰 Malc

Hydrogen nearly there then .... the Ls700h maybe

I think I'm remembering reading that both Holland and Luxembourg now run Hydrogen trucks very regularly Malc -
these are the guys nr to me that I' going to visit sometime soon to fix my dials bouncing about ....... when they start that again I'm reading they have good write-ups BUT being in Kent are a huge drive for you from deepest darkest Cornwall Good luck Malc btw, what's the issues you're experiencing with your 95 Ls400 ........ I've had mine 11.5 years and covered 120k miles of it's 242k miles

UK population is so so tiny compared to the rest of the " wealthy " world, even tho; UK is still 6th ? in Global Wealth ( behind or just ahead of Brazil is it ) and has a relative tiny landmass across which to sell it's brands and models ...... these must also be huge factors in deciding model spread into the UK . also, unless no-one's noticed just now, much of the UK population is going thru' or about to begin to go thru', very straightened circumstances and new car purchases will drop to a very very low point in peoples aspirations Reality of Marketing right now eh ! Take your car to Maidstone where I had mine repaired / refabricated by the EXPERTS .. maybe give them a ring first 01622 672798 ( I posted on here somewhere at the time ) Bower Lane Exhaust centre and tyres . back street yard but been there for ever ......... at least 50 years to my knowledge ... ME16 8EJ I'm assuming yours is the same part as mine, the rest of the exhaust will last another 27 years for sure . the heat shields might fall off but are not essential to satisfactory running They refabricated my front exhaust stuff and cost £300 + vat This part is totally unavailable from anywhere in the UK and when it was, cost £6/700 to replace Tell them i had mine done earlier this year and one of their mechanics just set-to and fabricated all that was necessary ( they have zillions of parts ) and to re-use the existing Cats ( of course ) a pre-booked half a day's work ?? after they had checked what needed doing ...... And the right member of staff was available too ...... they have staff with skills sets to concentrate to make an excellent job of it for you Good luck, I'm assuming yours is the same part that needs replacing Malc

I think madame google overrides one's wishes with advert blocking . I don't know really, all i do know is that my Travel Business spends a few £'000s a month with google to inter alia, infiltrate people's browsings to capture new business .. and it seems to work ( mostly thankfully ) ✌️ Malc

My 2006 Honda Legend is a pretty darned good car . owned her now for 6.5? years and bought from my bro-in-law who bought it from the Main Dealer who had sold it to the original owner ....... between them they cosseted the car and spent much £££££ on all sorts at Main Dealer prices ....... we've done about 40k miles in her and hardly spent a penny ... just regular servicing, tyres etc . with my indy , low cost but bloody good maintenance Brilliant Comfy, Reliable ( mostly ) quite powerful limo and AWD, a boon in terrible weather for sure 🤩 and my Lexus Ls400, no.3 now and done maybe a quarter of a million miles in them over some 22 years ........ Brilliant Comfy, Reliable ( mostly ) quite powerful limo but totally useless in snow and ice . but oh my, wot a fantastic car So there we have it .... brilliant Mainstream Manufacturers but not very popular cars from both Honda and Lexus . I'd buy both again, this time from new if ever they might build them at that level of quality and reliability etc ... hahahahahaha, I now have the spondoolies to do so Lexus is certainly Mainstream from Toyota they just don't sell too many of 'em in the UK BUT globally, well, I'm guessing the sales figures are quite acceptable ( to Toyota ) Bit like buying a roller Rolls Royce . certainly a mainstream car, just that they don't sell very many and I'm thinking maybe their reliability factor doesn't exist ............ my Hydrogen powered Lexus Ls 700 is I'm sure somewhere there on the horizon . and indeed, why bother too much when the parent, Toyota is the absolute supremo of all manufacturers Malc -

Rockauto maybe ? Malc -
I vaguely remember my secondhand Triang tricycle back in the '50s now . gave me much pleasure running up and along the back garden path too my next endeavour was with a two wheeler when I moved to Brookland on the Romney Marsh in Kent, thinking the roads were actually flat ..... jeez not for me wore me out all those inclines and potholes and grassed over centres to the roads / tracks Don't remember incivilities of cyclists then either, not like these days 🥶 Malc
