  1. bit like watching paint dry with excitement for me ................. Toyota are well advanced with their Hydrogen Fuel cars ........ an 80 vehicle fleet of Toyota sponsored taxis in London I believe at least ! We did think at one time that LPG would be interesting, it's CNG in India with 20% of the world population ( less volatile I believe ) ....... doubtless there'll be something else in the melting pot to consider before I pass this mortal coil .......... how about tap water, surely someone can develop that, or salt water using the electrolytic effects to power motion ... or harness earwigs or some such amazing power driven creatures............. I doubt we have heard the last of power from differing fuel types ...... the vast majority of vehicles around the world will doubtless be using petrol and diesel for the rest of my lifetime methinks ( how long's a piece of string ? what shall I do with my SIPP ) Malc
  2. well done, thanks for that ..... technology in its infancy with significant growing pains I guess ............ maybe BP and ESSO etc will develop the appropriate charging facilities at their stations at some time .......................... BP has to my knowledge been a significant player in the solar power research and development scene for very many years, at least 15 to my knowledge and with the likely change in motoring power and oil in it's possible decline I know that I for one would explore this substitute energy facility for the " new " motoring world. They sure have the dosh to do it, much more so than individual car manufacturers whoever they are ........ why on earth haven't car manufacturers got a common charging filler, like petrol cars etc ? They must be mad Malc
  3. not so bad with the solid silver tray, that reforms ever so easily Malc
  4. simply depends on your budget £££ I've been with an Ls400 for 16 years nearly and wouldn't swap it for any other car ............. just brilliant V8 V8 V8 all the way Don't expect the usual V8 sound though, even when it's roaring away it's as loud as hearing sheep munching grass in a field 50 yds distant There's mountains of very useful stuff on the Ls400 Forum and mainly from very satisfied owners and over very many years Malc
  5. don't the kids in London make snowmen anymore ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or go sledging along the pavements ? Malc
  6. Of course you will, wouldn't be the same without us chatting on here would it Just off to do two/three weeks exploring Kerala in the south for my business ...... maybe offering good value packages to there if it seems a likely way to go Malc
  7. Chazz, out of interest, how did you get on with this .? ..... we're always interested to know the outcomes of posts. Thanks Malc
  8. wow, 312,000 miles ( 502k kms ) that's impressive ............. well done Malc
  9. replacement bulbs seem to be silly money for you specialist guys ................. just replaced one original on my 1995 Ls400, a simple bulb, first time changed and cost about a fiver. Did the other side a couple of years back and that was about £3.50 ! both a 5 minute job I'm quite expecting them to last at least another 20 years Malc
  10. Thank you for that .............. I've never had that need so haven't missed much ............. but it's good to know Thank you Malc
  11. guys, please tell if anyone knows ............. just what is the " shift lock " button for and when would you use it ? Always wondered and I've never pressed mine. Think I read in the manual once but didn't understand it even then Malc
  12. hahahaha ......... I'm enjoying quite pleasant temperatures here in my Office in Delhi right now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, bemused that my " go faster boy racer " next door neighbour here in Delhi has a Lamborghini that he can do max 5mph along these amazing congested roads ................... no fear of speeding fines here Malc
  13. just remembering that my Mk3 red lines at 6000 revs on the dial, not 5000 ........ is the Mk4 different ? Malc
  14. Just spoken to my other half and she most certainly left both the impossible to drive in snow Ls400 ( mine ) and her 2006 Honda Legend wth AWD un molested and phoned into work to reschedule her working week times ........... to enjoy a safe cuppa or two indoors .. whilst watching others struggling in the snow ! Malc
  15. suppose you've thought to sell it there and save the shipping costs back to the UK ? Just a one way home air ticket ? Let me know if you want to buy one and maybe pvt message me if you wanted to explore that ....... Travel is my business professionally ! That's why I'm at my Delhi office right now Malc
  16. you might get pulled over if you're going via the Afghan or Iran Highway ............ good luck with that one but 5k miles is a doddle in a Mk3 ( even the 10k if you're coming back ) Malc
  17. oh my, MOT Testers often say about rust when it's absolutely just surface and there's never any fear of structural effect ever. I think springs might fracture/crack when exposed to sudden shock and unwarranted manipulation .... I doubt they just " go " with old age.............. but maybe my wishful thinking here. and I understand cracks and breaks might not affect the handling or performance of the car and just show up at the next MOT My single one broke after being manually removed from the car at about 100k miles and stored. Good luck whatever Malc
  18. Stuart hi, ACLex the previous owner of mine replaced one spring when he re-converted her from DHP set-up style, coilovers .... but he was Parts Manager at Lexus Poole and that was 7 years ago ! Maybe the Mk1/2 renewal is more complex but I remember him saying that the single new spring cost him @gbp100 back then and I think he would have used his co-workers to fit maybe. Just a thought, not to scrap her but just see if Lexus has a sensible price for doing the job ? and/or a simple explanation to do the job that someone there might be willing to divulge Malc
  19. hey, I couldn't pass this by and not give praise for the good looking " new " car you've just bought, wow, she looks good Dreaded cambelt etc recently changed is sooooo positive 159k is tiny mileage as you know but I would mention ( not that it will happen to you ) that on my cars front UCAs went on my Mk1 at about 160k and the alternator too but that might have been due to the Mk1 pas leakage that's common to the Mk1 On my Mk3 one front UCA went at 173k and one rear UCA at 193k ( the n/sides only ) and the rear summat or other both sides were replaced about 120k I think by ACLex from here ( expensive job he told me ) She looks a great car, well done BTW I'm now in India for a month and again can't remember my original sign-in password ! Malc
  20. ok guys, I'm leaving Delhi tomorrow morning, Friday 2.30 am flight so I'll be reverting to just Malc quite soon ... from my desktop comp. Malc1
  21. ............ funny that, on my Grand Tour of Italy last year, about a month and 6k miles, just driving the length and breadth, around the coast and up into the mountains, I was stopped about 15 times by the police .... just to have a look at this very strange car, which they had probably never seen before, my elderly ls400 Malc1
  22. when I first started having my Lexus serviced ( all those years ago now, 15 to be precise,) the air filter needed changing once every two years ..... these past 6/7 years it's needed changing annually and it's quite grubby too. It's doing its job well, filtering the air intake BUT the car's location hasn't changed much in that time. Air pollution generally has worsened it seems....... well in Kent anyway. ( and similar annual mileage too ) Malc1
  23. seems a little pedestrian to me tbh . ......... the ancient and well proven Ls400 technology achieves 0 - 60 in 6.9 seconds ............. and it still feels like it. ...... does the Tesla achieve the same environmental benefits as the hybrid Lexus but in ultra quick time of 2.5 seconds whichever way you look at it, old fashioned petrol or new electric, the new generation of Lexus cars just doesn't seem to hack it at all sensationally.
