  1. Now I'm led to believe this is a "feature" of the LS400. That as the A/C kicks in the revs rise considerably, most noticeable when stationary or at low speed when the car almost drives itself. My LS has spent much of its life outside the official dealer network, was there ever a fix? Specifically a software fix that may be available at a main dealer? Owners must have complained at the time. It's not a major problem but it is an annoyance. I've taken to switching the A/C off when I'm driving around town but I'm not entirely happy with that solution.
  2. I remember him posting these. But as you say, the shipping is no doubt prohibitive.
  3. I've had Essential and regular services from the main dealer on both the IS and RX. Nothing was ever added on unnecessarily but I guess that depends on your dealer. There are fewer checks made on the Essential so it's not quite as complete and I've found that "Essential" is often written in the book next to the stamp. However, when I had Gold membership on here my local dealer would offer the discount on the regular servicing but not Essential. This made the price comparable and the need to go for Essential unnecessary.
  4. Well the car has gone. Retirement home on the south coast I believe. A little sad to see it go (more than for the Saab to be honest) but made myself feel better with a McDonalds. Sat in the car park and wept quietly into my Double Quarterpounder with Cheese and Bacon (no pickle).
  5. I thought the same which is why I wondered if the Altezza badging etc was just a mod. He seemed pretty convinced it was an IS300 though.
  6. Not sure really. The only options I've ever really seen are nav, leather and xenons. I'm sure someone else could tell you more. Cam belt is as I say 10 years or (I think) 100k. Should have been done at least once and it's coming up for another.
  7. If it's the 2JZ IS300 and not a rebadged IS200 then I certainly wouldn't describe them as sluggish. Plenty quick enough for me anyway!
  8. Altezza? An import or made to look like one. If you've got the reg then the .GOV site should give you clues. Got a link for the car? Apart from general condition and "feel" if it's in fact a UK IS300 then look for evidence the cam belt has been done. £300ish job if not. Should be every 10 years. 2JZ-GE is strong but look to see if it's nice and dry underneath. CD player probably won't work but if it does that's a bonus. Rust on the front edge of the rear arches and sills. Rust generally especially around the front and rear suspension components but quite often it looks worse than it is ie surface only. Other than that it depends on how confident you are of sorting it yourself. Lack of service history (apart from cam belt) doesn't bother me too much because they're easy to work on. Keep us posted
  9. Cheers Phil. If it starts to get annoying and I feel a little braver than I am right now I'll have a crack.
  10. Got to love a Lexus warranty. A couple of years ago and 11 months into 2002 IS300 ownership my dealer told me the water pump had a slight leak. Change it then I said, and while you're in there you might as well do the cam belt. Whole job cost me about 40 quid.
  11. Lockdown is clearly getting to you! I'm constantly surprised anyone reads my nonsense. But I can confirm that it's coming from the headlining. Don't fancy removing it though.
  12. One day your Celsior might be worth as much as this... https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1275431
  13. Brilliant. A 3 year warranty. I wonder if BMW and Mercedes offer that?
  14. V8 Carinas were a rare beast indeed. Make sure you do look after yours Steve.
  15. What he said ^^ I had effectively a cat back on the GS at Tony Banks and it was about £600 iirc. Lovely job, I'd speak to him. Tyne and Wear to Leeds is just a trip down the A1 You sit in McDonalds round the corner for an hour or so and job done.
  16. Looks splendid. Love the colour. Interior colour? Mileage? History? Come on Kyle!
  17. I used tape on my LS400 only the other day and it's fine. I've done the same on the GS and IS, both of which have a similar plinth. Trick is to get it as clean as you can and cover the area with cut pieces. Halfords do packs of three strips, I got two packs and cut each piece in half. I use tape because drilling isn't really my thing.
  18. Read on young Fatts! These issues were settled around this time last year and the GS gave sterling service for over 12 months. It's new owner is collecting on Tuesday and I'm sure there are many years left in it.
  19. Cracked it. For the benefit of future generations of LS400 owners it was actually a hybrid (see what I did there?) of the various sets of rub your tummy/pat your head instructions floating around the t'interwebs. (I've amended the text) These instructions work for an LS400 with a build date of July 1996 using remote fob 89742-50631 Happy days 1. Driver's door OPEN and unlocked, all other doors closed and locked. 2. Insert YOUR key in ignition, DO NOT TURN, remove key. 3. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times). 4. Shut door. 5. Open door. 6. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times). 7. With the door open insert your key into the ignition, turn to on position (DON'T START), wait 5 seconds. Turn off and remove key. 8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and then unlock once). If they don't cycle or they cycle more than once, do steps 1-7 over. 9. Now using the remote, push lock button, hold for one second, release. The locks should cycle once. If not, start over and go slower. 10. Close the door. Open the door. Press the lock button on the remote. The locks should cycle. Close the door. Press the lock button on the remote, the doors should lock. Press again and the doors should unlock. Just to be clear, the references to the button on the drivers door mean the central locking switch NOT the manual locking toggle next to the pull handle mentioned in other instructions out there.
  20. Good to hear. I've previously experienced excellent service from them and a Google review goes a long way!
