  1. I'm sorry but you would not be allowed to buy a car in Aberdeen in order to deface it later on.......
  2. Nice colour the Aberdeen one!!!! There is a 2.5l in Edinburgh but why half the engine size?
  3. Do you want me to go look at it and take some piccies 'cos I'm in Aberdeen. Happy to come get you from airport/station/docks if you need it. I travelled from Aberdeen to Edinburgh for my current IS250 but have been as far afield as Manchester and Bristol.
  4. Most decent ELM327 dongles should work. I have a TorquePro one off Amazon and use the same named software off Google Play - think it costs a fiver. It is very good but unsure if it can check the hybrid system. Unsure if any will do that but someone will be along to correct me. If the dongle doesn't work then just return it under Amazon's returns at their expense.
  5. Would agree with this statement for parts that are in crucial areas of a car...spark plugs, brake discs and pads, etc...whilst other parts....air filter, cab in filter and maybe even oil filter I would not necessarily say go OEM as many OEM parts and overpriced and probably made in the same factory as the other parts.
  6. My car did not have full Lexus warranty and they were quite happy to provide a Lexus warranty. They did check it over, not an in depth check, when they did the airbag and saw no major problems. Think different Lexus dealers have different opinions. As has been said above these will not stay there for long - at least there are two of them at the same place. These cars, well looked after, can easily do 150k miles so even if you're doing 10k miles a year either of these cars should have an easy 10 years of life left in them - do you expect to keep the car that long or are you calculating resale value already?
  7. ....maybe worth mentioning that I have seen some refurbished OEM wheels and some excellent condition non OEM wheels around for this price. Maybe buy a new set of wheels rather than refurbish the existing ones. Then maybe, when funds allow put some winter tyres on the OEM ones off the car.
  8. Spoke too soon......just realised that the fitter used the OLD driver's side trim rather than the new one. Drove the car for the first time and at the bottom of the trim it comes away from the plastic valance and the side of the windscreen when driven. It can be forced back in but then seems to pop out when driven. Pathetic. Will probably end up getting two new trims myself, taking the plastic valance out and seeing what they've broken there and fixing it before installing the new trims myself.
  9. Two new trims later and the plastic valance cover got taken off and reseated in the correct position and everything fits as it should. Why could the first guy not taken a little care and time to do that in the first place. Will keep an eye on the trims once I start driving it around to see if they spring back up or not.
  10. New trims were supplied the first time and these are the new trims that are crap! The new screen does have the heater element and he did reconnect it. The plastic cover over the firewall is not actually sitting correctly and I'm pretty sure he's tried to force it in place to get it to fit. Wonder if he's broken it.
  11. Just had my windscreen replaced by Autowindscreens under insurance. Guy was nice enough but the plastic firewall cover, underneath the windscreen wipers fits nowhere now. See the piccies. Both sides are a complete mess and the passenger side plastic strip down the side of the windscreen has also been broken. Not happy.
  12. Nothing here either.....hope they do so I can get the cracking in my dashboard sorted.
  13. Part it out..... Know your pain and a very big thank you for sorting it out. Does it need s V8 now then as opposed to a V6 engine?
  14. Just doing similar with one of my relatives. At least he is considering it. Getting everything in trust is the best way but there are catches. He needs to live a few years to make it viable. Are all the other houses registered in his name and hence recognized as second homes? Pita if they are from CGT etc. Where are the proceeds of the renting revenue being placed and is he paying tax.......if yes good....if not then tax man can go back a good few years if he finds out. Get him to use his £20k ISA allowance every year. Try and not sell anything as there will be CGT tax due. If he sells and gifts from the proceeds of a house sale and not from capital there is no taper benefit for the beneficary. He can gift money regularly to who he wants and would suggest he needs to do that to show historical precedence. It is useful to have that. £3k a year. Suggest you need some expert advice as you are saying. Go for a fixed price advisor. Does he have a will? If no then get one done asap. Does anyone have power of attorney just in case? Ongoing medical treatment in England is also a nightmare which is why it all needs to be in trust.....not so much of a problem in Scotland. Putting stuff in a trust is relatively easy but it's a lot of paperwork. I think you are my long lost brother aren't you? :-)
  15. Would suggest that is a good tactic....also consider getting one inside the 10 year old mark and below 140k miles budget for £795 to get the two year Lexus extended warranty. That way you are covered for any major mishaps. I think, even though these cars are bullet proof, is a sound investment. IS & IS-F 24 months £795.00 £66.25
  16. I have just had a look and can't really be arsed. Top pin undid fine but the pad locating pins I just could not get them to move. Can see it would be easier if you could get at them whilst in ramps. As it's now snowing, and I am in a garage with the door open to get some light in I thought I'd rather be inside in the warmth a with a cuppa. Pads and discs in reasonable shape so will leave them until MOT is due in June and get garage to replace discs and pads and pins etc. Will wait and keep an eye on Eurocarparts and buy parts when they have a sale on........however they do seem to be the DFS of the car parts world...they ALWAYS have a sale on. More pressing is my daughters rear brake discs on her Fiat Grande Punto so will do them first.
  17. It will be......it is a perennial Toyota problem...I've had a Mr2, a Corolla T sport, Toyota Previa, the IS250 now and all have suffered from this problem......do other makes suffer??
  18. Michael Clitherow‎ to Lexus Owners Club UK 2 hrs · alas i am looking at selling my beloved Lexus is250 i have a few more months before i get my next car but i thought i will post here first if anybody is interested let me know. 2010 registered with 73000 miles SE I, so it has the reversing camera and sat nav. There is a very, very nice on the Lexus owners club UK Facebook page as above. It is a petrol auto and looks very well looked after. HE is looking to sell in a month so a good deal could be done.
  19. That was more than lucky........ I once changed the pads on my wife's car. All done and dusted. Into car, start it up, down the drive way and brakes practically none existent...thought what!! Had actually forgotten to put the new pads in on the drivers side....oops!
  20. Got the grease sorted and have new brake securing pad pins as well. Am just going in for an exploratory look. If everything moves reasonably easily I will replace all the pins and sliders...if not will get garage to do it all and probably replace disks and pads at the same time as well.
  21. Do not believe it would be a direct fail and suspect this level of detail is not checked but may result in other symptoms - brake imbalance, one brake pad wearing quicker than the other but main problem would be that your braking efficiency would be reduced and more prone to failure.
  22. Excellent.....and many thanks. Was going to get a metric set but wanted to make sure that it WAS metric and no larger than 10mm.
