  1. Would agree but if you look at the Lexus web site and you are interested on buying something slightly older and say less that £15k then don't bother. Lexus are not interested in the buyer who is looking for a 2nd hand car under say £15k as mainly these people are not Lexus's targeted buyers. There are a large amount of people who do not have cash to burn on a car (ok maybe PCP, lease hire etc.) but that is a different ball game. If such a service is targeted correctly it could work. Would do a sliding scale of costs to do all the donkey work. For instance Lexus say for an extended warranty on a used Lexus there are restrictions (10 years old and 140k miles) but is seems that those restrictions are not set in stone. Hence it would be good to know before buying a Lexus is they will provide an extended warranty.
  2. Am looking for something similar as well but the air suspension on a SE-L, longer term does worry me. Have heard of people actually replacing with normal suspension to remove the potential "harshness" of the ride as well as removing future problems. If you mind me asking how much did you pay for the car? No worries if you don't want to say. Am looking myself but being in Aberdeen Scotland there are not that many around to go drive, view or buy!!
  3. Avoid the diesel. Avoid the manual. Best option is the IS 250 automatic petrol. Whether you want all the fancy bells and whistles....sat nav screen , Mark Levinsen stereo, etc is up to you. There are various cosmetic differences as the model gets younger. Keep an eye on the road tax....it can he heafy if you choose the wrong model. Probably woth keeping an eye on the market within a particular price range and see what comes up.
  4. IS250 auto over any Lexus diesel especially for short, stop start journeys. Your diesel will get killed by journeys such as those. DPF will get blocked in double quick time. What about a rX400h or a CT20foh..both hybrids an bullet proof...the RX 400h especially. Or maybe even a Toyota Prius.....CT200h is just a tarted up Prius. I have an IS250 and it's great but it's best as a long distance cruiser. The RX400h being hybrid is probably the best of both worlds. Just my thoughts
  5. Thanks all. Agree that it is a personal thing. Need to find both cars somewhere close and test drive them both. Suspect RX will win out but don't want to discount the 300h. Being in Aberdeen, with no Lexus dealer, it's a pita trying to find a garage with both, or either car to test drive!!
  6. So here's my problem. I currently have a petrol, auto IS250 which is just brilliant. My son has his eyes on it when I change my car. I have two Lexus models in mind....either a newer IS300h (Premier spec is possible) or a RX 450h. For the money I am willing to spend it would be a 2013/2014 300h and only probably a 2009/2010/2011 450h. 300h would be higher spec than the 450h. You can see where this is going..... The 300h would be newer, less miles, better mpg than the equivalent RX450h for the money I am willing to part with. There are pros and cons to both cars. Big kicker is that my wife does not like sitting in the front seat of the current IS250 as it gives her a sore back (and bum) over a reasonable distance. I am keen on the IS300h model but need to understand what they are like in the front seats. Pretty sure the RX450h will be fine in this area. Anyone have a 300h out there who can attest to the non back hurting seats....keen in getting the Premier spec as it has lots of seat adjustments on both drivers and passenger seats but probably also need to drive both cars first. Any advice, help much appreciated.
  7. Welcome and looks like a very nice one!!! Well done. I have a similar model. The only thing that has gone wrong in 3 years is brake calipers seizing. It is an easy job. I did mine over two weekends. Front then was going to do the rears. Read up about them and what I would need to do a good overhaul. Replaced all the replaceable parts...discs, pads, pins, springs etc. Took everything apart, carefully, and put all the new parts back in a greased everything up. Had to push the caliper piston back in to accept the new pads. Cleaned everything up as well. Next weekend looked at the rears and one of the pistons was seized and I could not get it unstuck. Even if I had managed to I would have needed to either service the caliper/piston or replace. Booked it into a garage with all the parts I had bought and asked them to replace the caliper that had seized and check and grease/service the other side with the parts I provided. Every service/mot I now get the garage to check and regrease as part of that service. Takes them minutes as car is on ramp and wheels off. Worth checking early in the cars life.
  8. The cost of replacing the middle and rear sections will be a lot. When I had my problems to replace the full exhaust from engine backwards was £3200. IT is Lexus after all. If you are interested I do have a second hand centre section that I bought but did not use. It was off a 2007 IS250 with 54k miles. Having said that I suspect the rear section will impact the noise more that the middle section.
  9. My hearing is pretty crap but my wife tells me that there is little to no drone. Checking back in the invoice the Powerflow guys used wider bore connecting pipes and then scaled down as required. I am presuming that this was they way they eliminated the drone.
  10. If it's Powerflow it has a lifetime guarantee and it maybe worth getting it checked out. You need to try and get in contact with the previous owner and see where it was done, or get the receipt, and take it into any powerflow franchise and get it checked. I have a powerflow and was aware that it could drone and told them so and that I would not accept a drone at 70mph. The guys played around with the pipe diameter, on the rear exhaust section, as well as the silencers and the exhaust is quiet with no drone at 70mph. It is throatier that the original but does show off the V6 engine better.
  11. I just bought a whole box of the things off Amazon for about a tenner......plus a tool for taking them out. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Retainer-Autmor-Universal-Assortment-Vehicles/dp/B07GDKS22X/ref=sr_1_17?keywords=engine+bay+clips&qid=1583853762&sr=8-17
  12. I have a second hand middle and rear section that came off my car when I went full stainless.......let me know if you are interested. It includes the two cats as well.
  13. If you are a member of any of the breakdown services......call them out and they will get you started but also check the health of the battery and the alternator. I have the cheap Autoaid one that covers you in any car (you and the boss) for £60. Used it 3/4 times and they are great. Used a Groupon one for my daughter for £20 and they have come out twice and sorted a problem but they do give the car a once over.....oil, water, battery and alternator check........maybe worth doing.
  14. Totally concur with all this. Some of the earlier IS250s have same tyre size all round - mine does. The newer ones have larger tyres at rear. Forget the manual. I got my complete exhaust replaced with a stainless steel one 3 months after I bought it but still within the warranty period. Cost £850 all in for which I paid £100. Get decent tyres as it's a rear wheel drive with a bit of poke. I've had one rear brake caliper replaced....£75 for part. Spark plugs are meant to be done at 60k miles....so make sure they are iof the car has more than that mileage. Had two front wheel bearings replaced.....£250 all in with labour. Might proactively get water pump done just to be sure. Average mpg over all types is 35.2. over about 20000 miles since I bought it. It really is a great car. Quiet, reasonably frugal for a 2.5l, can shift if you need it to. I would be looking to change it for another Lexus..either a RX 450h or as IS300h. Also, parts now are reasonably cheap, sometimes, even from a dealer. If you can get one that you can get a two year warranty from Lexus on......thing it has to be under 10 years old but check....the warranty covers you for just about anything that goes wrong.
  15. Cruise sets the speed for the car to travel at. There is also a feature in some cars to set a speed that the car will NOT go passed. Say you are on a 50mph limit...you set the speed to 50 and even if you press the accelerator to go passed the set speed at 50mph the car will not do so. I think that is what that symbol refers to.
  16. I have a mid section that I was going to use on my 2007 IS250. Should fit OK of you are interested. What's the state of the rest of the exhaust as the rear section tenmds to go as well.
  17. and make usre you get new plastic surrounds on each side of the windscreen and that they fit. Take pictures of everything before they come. They destroyed a good few of the poppers that hold everything together inside the engine bay under the windscreen. Nothing sat correctly and had them back twice but was still a mess. Got my deposit back and redid the cosmetic stuff myself.
  18. Welding or new stainless steel rear exhaust section. Get a price for the rear section replacement and see what insurance will contribute and then pay the rest yourself. This would be a lifetime fix for the car but welding is only a patch up job and suspect, as you suggest, the exhaust has been hit in the accident.
  19. There are 4 cats in this picture and on my car. Two on the front two manifold sections and two in the middle section. I have a spare, second hand, middle section. My new exhaust replaces everything from the joint between the middle and front section backwards. So i got the two middle section cats replaced. The front two manifold sections are the originals. £3500ish from Lexus gets you a complete new exhaust. The two Y joints on the middle section and the rear sections are known weak spots.
  20. Trying to figure out wjhere the problem is. Is it the rear section or the middle section? I have a complete middle section (second hand) that I bought before I go a Powerflow stainless steel one made up. If you think that would help you out let me know. Not wanting masses of dosh for it but postage would be a bit I suspect....I'm in Aberdeen. Scotland. Second Powerflow guys as well. They made me a complete cat back for £700, which sounds a lot but the Lexus part would have been £1900 all in. Complete exhaust from manifold back is £3500ish.
  21. Just had similar on daughter's Fiat Grande Punto...charged it up but pretty sure battery was failing and only a year old. Took it along to Kwik Fit and got them to do their free battery health check....even with an overnight charge it was showing 349 amps as opposed to the 450 it should have been. Battery health was also down to about 65%. Took the print out and went back to EuroCarparts and they replaced without a problem. Also started buying batteries locally as when you look at the returns procedure it's impossible to return a faulty battery. You need either the original box or something made up to the same spec....PITA.
  22. I think it is against the law for speedometers to read lower than the actual speed of the car......or something like that. Imagine the furore if you were done for speeding and then found out that when the speedo registered 40mph you were actually doing 44/45mph in real numbers.
  23. Excellent and well done....probably a very good idea to buy through the forum as most people look after their cars on here. I bought from a dealer and under warranty they paid to replace most of the exhaust (£700 stainless) It was my entry into Lexus ownership and I just wanted to see how "expensive" it was to run and maintain a Lexus as the rumours had it to be expensive. Tyres (£140) and petrol and a £370 bill for service (new rear brake caliper, new discs and pads all round and slider pins) is all I've spent. So cost so far is very little for such a car and it feels and drives beautifully. I might look at the next level up and a hybrid but I really do not do enough miles to warrant it!!
