  1. My feeling is your choice is about a newer NX vs an older RX - is that right? Bang on...older RX, probably higher miles vs newer NX lower miles possibly. Need to go and drive a NX as you suggest.
  2. So have the final blessing from her indoors to get another Lexus. Have a potential budget of £16kish and starting to see NXs coming in around that price. Have had a drive of a RX 450h but never a NX. What would be the general consensus .....450h or 300h? Away to read all the various reports, reviews etc but keen to hear from those that have maybe had both. Thanks
  3. ......and we all know......ye cannae change the laws of physics, Jim. I'll get my coat.
  4. You need to have a look at how much new calipers would be and obviously would not be in any colour......I got new rears....including all the pins, bolts, springs for £85 each at the rear and £90 for the front ones, each. I then replaced all the disks and pads.....total was £480......I did do the work myself mind you.
  5. ........are you the one saying the phrase or the person the phrase is being said to.......the truth will out....🙂
  6. So I'm going to ask some silly questions re the Lexus warranty as I need to take one out very soon. Just trying to get my head around the pre-requisites when buying a Lexus and not necessarily from a Lexus dealer. 1. Lexus warranty is currently 2 for 1 offer. Think I've got that right. 2. Warranty is for cars under 10 years old OR up to 140k miles. Is the 10 year measurement from first registration date? Anyone seen, or hear of a car, on a first warranty application being done for a car over 10 years old? 4. Does the application of a warranty on a non franchise Lexus car require a full Lexus service history along with hybrid battery check? 4. Does the warranty require servicing by a Lexus franchise garage? This is an important one for me as in Aberdeen there is no Lexus dealer only a Toyota dealer and they said they can offer me a Lexus warranty but NOT a service plan. Would prefer both a warranty and service plan if possible. Any other information that would be useful in understanding whether a Lexus warranty can be taken out on a non Lexus franchised car? I don't want to buy a second hand Lexus and then find I cant take out a Lexus warranty on the car. Thanks in advance.
  7. Agreed......say another £1000 (if that) to sort out any minor niggles (brakes all round at an indie?, tyres, etc.) any problems and £500 stashed away for any potential problems and the jobs a good 'un.
  8. Went for £4700...... Keeping a close eye on this one but too high a price at present. https://www.gumtree.com/p/lexus/lexus-gs450h-3.5-v6-cruise-in-style-luxury-fsh-cream-leather-version-64k-miles/1392523790
  9. ....see if you can get some old geezer on your insurance ......someone like Old Git 🤣....that seems to help reduce down insurance as well.
  10. Go get a brand new quote from RAC as is you were a new customer......it will be cheaper as loyalty just does not pay these days.
  11. The brake pads rarely (possibly never) actually cover the entire brake disc on any car. Hence you will have a nice shiny middle section of the disk where the brake pad actually comes into contact with the brake disc while you apply the brakes. Whilst the outer part of the disc.....usually about 2mm to 3mm....is never actually touched by the brake pads and hence never gets worn. Hence you will get a lip of unworn brake disc. The internal part of the disc never gets touched by the pad either and it just rusts. Garages can, and will, fail MOT where the lip is quite deep. Also check that both brake pads are wearing the same as if not you may find one of the brake pads is stuck in the carrier and not actually moving when the brake caliper is applied. Have a look on Youtube and you will see some helpful videos I usually check all my brakes once a year.....a garage can do the same.
  12. Would suggest that you will get either a lip in the disc, worn down brake pads, or a problem with a caliper, piston, caliper spring or bolt before the thickness causes of a problem. I always change the pads and discs together as well.....discs are pretty cheap (Mintex for £70 for 2 rears) as I have found that new pads on old discs just cause more problems. Do the pins as well at the same time. Just my opinion.
  13. I am in the exact same quandary. Been looking at a 2009 to 2012 RX 450h but being glancing at the Honda and other similar SUVs. The Honda is a great car but it does suggest an older, boring, mature person in the drivers seat. It also does not drive as well as the RX 450h. I would call it utilitarian against the 450h. Other car I was looking at was Mitsubishi Outlander....the PHEV version. Had a drive of one......yeuch. Noisy, plasticky, slow, and whatever. Suggest you get your husband and you in the Honda and the 450h. There is a massive difference - comfort, silence, space...etc. The Lexus is just a nicer place to be. With the hybrid I was looking at spending most of my miles within 15 miles of home.........then a few long journeys to see family. Perfect for a hybrid. Honda's new hybrid is probably too new and hence expensive and untested. The kicker as you say is that the Honda would be newer, less miles, etc. It is a difficult choice. There are however some very keenly priced 450hs on the market with a low mileage. It also depends if you will ever come around to the RX 450h again......also maybe consider the Lexus 2 year warranty on it which you can pay up monthly rather than on a lump sum. Good luck!!!
  14. Son is looking for an IS250.....he wanted mine as I was looking for a RX450h which will have to wait a bit.
  15. Do this.....log into MY Lexus and enter int he details required. This should get you a complete breakdown of all services, and other work, done by Lexus on your car. I do this for any Lexus I am interested in buying. SHows what has been done under warranty as well.
  16. Nah...we've been behaving ourselves lately and the ginga ninja has allowed us outside with three friends which is pushing it a bit. It's our lowland cousins in Glasga, and a wee bit in Erinburra, who have had their wrists slapped. Who wants to go to Blackpool to watch a Celtic vs Ranges match with a load of other people just so you can get blootered!!
  17. Interesting discussion.......just had my daughters Fiat Grande Punto MOTd. This is what the brakes are checked against....I asked the guy what he checked for and he says....low pads, lipped discs, warped discs or any combination. He said that any one of these areas would result in an advisory and would definitely fail next MOT if nothing done about it. So I suggest that there was no way your car could have gone from having no advisory to a straight fail within such a short space of time. Someone is having a laugh. 1.1.14. Brake discs and drums A brake disc or drum must be significantly worn before you should reject it. Being worn below the manufacturer’s recommended limits is not a reason in itself. Defect Category (a) Brake disc or drum: (i) significantly and obviously worn (ii) insecure, fractured or otherwise likely to fail Major Dangerous (b) Contaminated with oil, grease etc. Major (c) Missing Dangerous (d) Brake drum back plate insecure Major
  18. ...as Billy Connolly would day Banff just sounds like a dull thud...
  19. ...aye he's from Fife..........wait 'til you get to Aberdeen....... 🙂
  20. Go and put your Lexus into the My Lexus on the uk website. you will need some details off the V5. that should then load up all the services, any other work etc and the extended warranty against the car.
  21. I have seen different Lexus dealers either accept a car or not depending on what side of bed the person got out of in the morning. Suggest you contact another Lexus dealer and ask the same question.......or word it slightly differently. Ie Say I currently have a Lexus on an extended warranty and want to add another two years to it...you happy for me to do that. My reading, and understanding, is that as long as you extended the warranty before the car is over ten years old it should be fine. This would be the FIRST extended warranty.....as the warranty expects all work to have been done at a Toyota/Lexus dealer/garage so they know what state the car is in.
  22. Interested in this thread as well. Looking to buy a RX 450h and do not have a local Lexus dealer...only a Toyota dealer. Asked the Lexus warranty guys if that would invalidate the warranty and they said no. Toyota labour costs are way cheaper than Lexus rates and parts are cheaper. Also wanted a Lexus warranty and service plan but Toyota dealer said they can do a Lexus warranty but not a service plan. Mmm..... Talking to the nearest Lexus dealer they said they could do both and that Toyota dealers should honour the service plan. Down to all car dealerships being franchises linked to manufacturers. So each dealership will have their own ideas about what how they will do their business as a franchisee. If you aren't happy with them then first port of call should he the manufacturer - is Lexus. Anyone selling a nice 2011, 2012, 2013 RX 450h??
  23. What model do you have.......only the SE-L and above have it as standard...the rest are options on the list. See sticky under the 450h area....
  24. I have seen a good few cars, 450h's included, where the actual internals have DAB all over them but in actual fact they do not have DAB. It is just an easy way of making the radsio a generic model but not necessarily with the actual functionality built in.
  25. Maybe try Rockauto in USA....
