  1. Sounds like an issue with the seat to me based on my experience with an RX for the past year. Assuming the car is under warranty raise it with the dealer. The other faults should have been picked up at pre-sale as an ‘approved used’ too. Doesn’t sound good to me… As an aside…don’t Lexus come with an exchange policy for approved used? Is that still valid?
  2. Maradona was the classic flawed genius, as so many geniuses are. George Best was another. There are so many examples, not just in sport. The 1986 goal against England, after the infamous ‘hand of God’ showed that he truly was a genius as well as a cheat. As I said, flawed. The drugs and scandal in his later years didn’t really sully his legacy though. Greater than Messi imho. But still not as great as Pele. Pele must be the greatest ever, surely? The greatest player I ever saw live (in person) was Dennis Bergkamp. Thierry Henry was a close second. Bergkamp was astonishing. His touch, his movement. Mesmerising. My later Father watched Stanley Matthews live a few times. He always said he was amazing - a real magician with the football at his feet.
  3. ^^ I believe it was Alex Ferguson who said something along the lines of; ”Show me a good loser, and I’ll show you a loser.” Blaming the referee / now VAR / bad luck is part of football, and pretty much every sport. Losing well doesn’t necessarily mean no mitigating factors are considered. Ronaldo got a lot of criticism for crying when Portugal were eliminated. To me it showed he cared. He wanted to win. Yes, the Moroccan players did act very well when they lost - perhaps because they were glad with how far they’d progressed and that they didn’t expect to win…a bit like a third division team losing to the Premier League Champions in an FA Cup tie. The phrase “…it was their final” springs to mind. One thing being a football fan for most of my life has taught me - three people can watch the exact same game and come to entirely different conclusions. It’s what makes the game - and the post-mortem of the game - so much fun. I don’t think my brother and I have ever agreed on many things football related and yet we had the same upbringing, support the same team, and sat next to one another for over thirty years watching games!
  4. https://news.sky.com/story/firm-left-with-18-000-england-world-cup-winners-t-shirts-after-gamble-backfires-12767260 😆
  5. My 2021 RX came with Dunlop Sport Maxx as factory fit. They seem fine to me!
  6. Yes, I’ll get some all season tyres for mine - don’t believe Cross Climates are available in the right size for my 20” wheels but there are other options (Continental from memory, must check!)
  7. My 1993 Daihatsu Charade CXi was my favourite car as well. Brilliant little thing, loved it!
  8. A very interesting post. Since I bought my RX in 2021 I’ve considered Winter tyres. Every other car I’ve owned for over a decade I’ve had a second set of wheels shod with Winter rubber, but I haven’t for the RX. This post makes me consider that decision…as does the below. See the RX at about 50 seconds. 😪
  9. Speaking as somebody born, raised and living in England, the things I remember from World Cup tournaments aren’t always about the football! From the ones I can remember…off the top of my head. 1974, West Germany. Zaire vs Scotland and Brazil. Zaire! 1978, Argentina. The ticker tape at the games (adopted all over this country for years afterwards on a smaller scale - how many copies of the Yellow Pages died for that effect?!). Peru’s strip, which was fabulous. Archie Gemmill’s goal for Scotland. Footnote - let it never be said that FIFA and controversial hosts are a new thing. Military rule and death squads? Perfect for a World Cup… 1982, Spain. German goalkeeper Schumacher’s flying tackle against France. Kevin Keegan’s hairstyle…Josimar scoring for Brazil against Pat Jennings. JOSIMAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR! 1986, Mexico. The ‘hand of God’ obviously, but also Lineker’s hat-trick against Poland. And the shadow in the middle of the pitch caused by the big thing hanging over the centre circle. 1990, Italy. Nessun Dorma. Gazza crying. Roger Milla and Cameroon. 1994, USA. Diana Ross missing the goal with the giant football at the opening ceremony. I know, but there you go! 1998, France. Fabien Barthez having his head kissed before every game for France. Beckham and Simeone. Michael Owen’s goal against Argentina. 2002, Korea/Japan. South Korea getting to the semi-finals. Watching the games in London in the mornings at the large organisation where I worked who had laid on bacon rolls and big screen TVs on every floor of our offices. 2006, Germany again. Zidane’s headbutt. Graham Poll (a friend of one of my colleagues!) giving a player three yellow cards before the red… 2010, South Africa. Vuvuzelas. Grrr…glad those never caught on here! Lampard’s goal that wasn’t against Germany. 2014, Brazil. Germany 7-1 Brazil. Brutal. 2018, Russia. Putin. Gareth Southgate’s waistcoat. 2022, Qatar. So far…ethical concerns. Rainbow armbands. Morocco.
  10. To be fair, apart from a couple of hundred morons trying to storm Wembley Stadium for the Euro final last year, there hasn’t really been ‘hooligan’ trouble at a major tournament since Euro 2000 in The Netherlands. Isolated incidents yes, but nothing much. I’ve been all over the place watching club football in England and Wales over the past forty years and only seen trouble once, Watford vs Luton in a League Cup match about a decade ago. Trouble does happen, but it’s more a case of memory and ‘give a dog a bad name’ these days imho. There’s also a class element in this country. Bad behaviour at a football match is ‘hooliganism’ but similar behaviour at cricket or rugby is ‘high spirits.’ I’ve been to a rugby union international between Wales and England in Cardiff, and it isn’t something I’d ever want to repeat. Regardless of what the media say, I saw far more drunkenness and bad behaviour there than I see at football. And I felt far more threatened personally. I thought England played well last night. They were the better side in the second half, but France had the better of the first half. It’s down to fine margins as it always is in these big tournaments. One penalty miss, a couple of missed chances, and you are eliminated. Still, seeding confirmed - England are one of the top ten teams in the world, and got to the last eight. From there on the winner has to have a combination of belief, talent and luck!
  11. Lexus Reading have a brand new unregistered Premium Sport RX (Sonic Platinum) for £50k (c£10k discount) on Autotrader, quoting 3.9% APR for PCP. Immediate delivery the advert says.
  12. Made me smile…😁 https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/roads-full-of-men-with-strong-but-conflicting-opinions-about-how-to-drive-on-ice-20171211140691
  13. Time for a cover version of the song and the video if the current squad make it…is it just me or did they look so much OLDER for their ages then?! In other news, a superb performance from England’s bowlers in Pakistan this morning.
  14. ^^ Brilliant! ^^ My Dualit toaster was bought for me (us) as a wedding present for wife / wedding #1. It’s still as good as new, and repairable in the unlikely event it ever breaks. The marriage, on the other hand, was neither long lasting nor was it repairable…🙄 Various relationships have come and gone but the Dualit toaster is a constant. Just a great appliance.
  15. To be fair, there was plenty of coverage on Sky…who had the Test live but who don’t have rights to the World Cup! What a coincidence… Whilst I am a big football fan, my focus has always been on club rather than country. Don’t get me wrong, I’m watching the World Cup and I’d love England to win it, but if they don’t…meh. At school we didn’t play football at all - in fact we weren’t even allowed to play football in our own time when school had finished for the day. Things were simple back then. Rugby and Hockey in the Winter. Cricket and Tennis in Summer, with some Athletics thrown in for those that had an aptitude for it, although in reality everything was about team sport. Tug-o-War was a favourite after school game too! I call different times… Funny, in some ways football became the ‘forbidden fruit’ for many of us. I absolutely detest rugby, but do love cricket. Actually I’d say test cricket is my favourite sport just to watch and while away hours…
  16. Understand the point, but it is quite an outdated concept. We live in a ‘get what you want’ rather than a ‘buy what you need and can afford’ culture, with economic growth (whatever that means!) locked into that. I essentially lease my Lexus using a PCP at 1.9% whereas my savings are locked away at significantly more than that. Personally I can’t see the point in using savings in such a circumstance and I guess a lot of people are the same. However, I’m fortunate in terms of the age I am having benefitted from house price growth and good pensions etc. As @rayaansand @ColinBarbernote, the bigger issue is those who take on loans without any headroom if circumstances change…but I have to say, I think that’s been the case for decades. It’s a bit too easy for those of a certain age - and I include myself - to deride the choices of those in a very different financial situation and operating in a very different financial landscape. We have become addicted to cheap credit in the Western world, and tbh I think a lot of us knew it couldn’t last forever. None of that makes your original point wrong by the way…
  17. As an aside, if you signed a finance agreement at (say) 7% but interest rates FELL to (say) 4% in the interim period, do we think Toyota Finance would call to reduce your rate? Perhaps they would, but I’m guessing use of the terms and conditions only works in one direction, with the caveat that (as here) the customer would have the option to cancel or at least negotiate.
  18. UK review of the Toyota BZ4X - looks very promising to me, especially at the price. Mind you, personally I’d choose the Subaru version. On both I really like the black plastic which is more rugged and practical from where I’m sitting… Assume the RZ is the same underneath but with a posh interior to justify the price as normal with Lexus / Toyota comparisons?
  19. I enjoy Hubnut videos - lots to like here and some good points made. EVs are good environmentally but bad in terms of sustainability - as are all new cars. Hopefully an interesting ten minutes for those members that watch it…
  20. The OEM ones from Lexus will be the perfect fit. Available either from your dealer or on eBay from the Lexus Official Store at £85.99 for the full set.
  21. Agree, the MG4 looks good. But the range at motorway speeds shows as 205 miles…looks as though their calculator assumes Summer temperatures (the disclaimer specifically mentions temperature variations). In the Winter it would still be below what I need is my reading, as with most other options out there right now.
  22. I’m sure you will, but be careful that it is a vehicle discount and not some playing with the GFV, which might leave you out of pocket later if you wanted to buy the car outright or having reduced equity for a trade in.
  23. I had a UX300e as a courtesy car today. Very nice, delivered to me fully charged so only 165 miles of range showing. I did about 15 miles, all low speed (below 50mph) - with lights on, wipers on, heating on, radio on etc. - and when I gave it back it was showing 125 miles remaining. For me it’s very simple. If that car had a realistic 250 mile range, at motorway speeds (actually if ANY reasonably priced EV did) then I’d consider making the switch. As it stands, my requirement for a regular motorway commute of c200 miles weekly and not wanting to charge midway, means I’ll stay with petrol/hybrid. The new Renault Megane is a good example. Using the Renault website calculator I could only expect about 150 miles range maximum at motorway speeds (70mph) when the WLTP shows c300 miles. It’s the motorway mileage that kills it for me. The technology will improve though. I’m sure in 3-5 years that will be a reality without having to spend £60-£75k plus on a Tesla.
  24. Pleased to report my RX was serviced by Reading today. Excellent service, entirely painless (well, apart from having to pay!). Nothing to fault, I can thoroughly recommend based on my experience today. I was also given a UX300e as courtesy car which was interesting!
