Auto Gearbox Fluid Change
Richiano replied to Frosties's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
I had my local indie garage who are also Lexus enthusiasts change the atf fluid in my 2005 GS300 last Saturday. I did a bit of research beforehand and the general opinion was to use genuine Toyota fluid which i bought from Ebay. They could only get just under a litre back in but then started the car and went through all the gear options drive, reverse, neutral and then checked the levels again but it only took the total fill to just over a litre although the book says 1.5l. It has been running fine ever since and the gear change seems smoother unless its just my imagination. My car has done 70k and the fluid had never been changed since new to my knowledge. I also got them to change the diff oil at the same time. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Toyota-Prius-Auris-Yaris-ATF-Fluid-Automatic-Transmission-1-Litre/112758271898?epid=651236881&hash=item1a40eaaf9a:g:WfgAAOSwJ71aXdkj -

I had the same problem on my GS300 replaced the gas struts and been fine ever since, also changed the struts on my bonnet. -
My sister has just bought a 2005 GS300 after having a ride in mine and falling in love with it! She has got an issue with the passenger airbag warning light saying the airbag is off whether someone is sitting in the seat or not. She has checked the airbag switch which is in the on position, Any ideas?

I work for an electrical wholesaler and we sell these under a different name and as you say they are extremely bright!

I have just got back from a 500 mile round trip to Norfolk, Lincolnshire from Wiltshire in my 2005 GS300 mk3 and i have noticed an issue with the transmission, When the car changes down a gear for instance when going down a hill or just cruising there is a noticeable jolt and a thud from the rear of the car somewhere? I thought i had seen people with similar issues somewhere but cant remember where. The transmission and diff fluid has never been changed to my knowledge and the car is nearly 13 years old but only done 70k.

The speed cameras in the gantry's above the M4 going past Bristol have a variable speed limit but even when they are not showing 40 or 50 mph or whatever are still set at 70 mph. I have had a couple of friends that have been prosecuted doing over 70 mph on that stretch of road and have witnessed cars flying past me then getting lit up like a Christmas tree as they pass under the gantry!

I live in Melksham, Wiltshire i have only ever seen one GS300 (mk3) locally the same as mine in the last 12 months but there is a nice 04 LS430 which i have seen parked in town a few times. I get sick of seeing BMW and Audi's everybody seems to be driving them these days thinking they have bought a reliable car! In the latest JD power survey both BMW and Audi were in the bottom 3 for reliability along with Fiat! http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2018-uk-vehicle-dependability-study

They didn't mention anything about previous owners to me, Good luck.

I have just spoken to Lexus Swindon who were very helpful and quite happy to give me the service history and check for any other recalls that have been done, They sent me a screenshot of some of my service history but cant send the full history via email as their system wont allow it. I am going to email them back to see if I they can print it all off then I can pick it up from them. I also asked about changing the gearbox oil and they don't recommend it as in their words it can cause more problems than leaving it alone! And there is no record of my spark plugs ever being changed and they should be done every 60k miles or 6 years although mine has only done 69k.

I might try going direct to Lexus head office to see if i get any joy and also Lexus Swindon that did the recent recall.

I have sent Lexus Guildford an email to see if I can get a more detailed break down but still haven't had a response!

I had a look at the app but there seems to be a gap in the history between 05-02-2007 and 08-10-2013 although the service book has been stamped. No mention of any recalls other than the one i have just had done for the fuel sensor.

I have got a 2005 GS300 mk3 with 69k on the clock with full Lexus service history, Just recently when starting the car from cold the revs go to about 2000rpm and then drop back down to about 1200rpm but there is a very slight misfire and a slight smell of petrol but it seems to clear after a about a minute. It seems to be running ok in terms of performance and smoothness and doesn't seem to be using any oil but i have been reading horror stories on the net regarding build up of sludge etc and a very large repair bill! I haven't got the itemised service for the car which has been serviced at Lexus Guildford since new so dont know if it has had the piston ring recall done but i have emailed them to see if they can send me the full history.

All the diesels i have previously owned (non of them Lexus) didn't produce any smoke whatsoever when doing a regen, I thought the whole idea of a regen is to burn off the soot particles that are caught in the dpf at an extreme temperature, You could feel the heat coming from underneath the car and the exhaust note would change slightly on the 2012 Mondeo i last owned. Thankfully i now have a GS300 and no longer have to worry about dpfs, dmfs and egr valves not something i miss! I think the diesel engine has had its day and i have owned diesels for the last 10 years and although i miss the low tax and mpg i certainly wouldn't go back to a diesel now. My brother in law also has his own garage and mot centre and he said he can foresee a lot of problems in the future for diesel owners on the emissions front.

Its actually Boreal Green Although it does change colour in the light.
