ACC / PCS
Shaunomercy replied to Shaunomercy's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Hi Texas. The automatic cruise control functions fine. Slows the car when the car in front slows. I'm just trying to find out more about the pcs side. Does it have to be switched on, on every journey like the acc ? I've never had it activate the pcs. But I'm unsure if the pcs defaults to off when you start the engine, and only activates when you switch on the by the stalk. I.e you press button on stalk and it says radar ready in display How good is the pcs ? Have you ever had it triggered by a pedestrian ? Cheers Paul Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk -
After reading this thread I'd kinda put it to the back of my mind. Then Wednesday morning I was seeing the Mrs off to work and had to show her where the fogs were on the 250c. Foggy as hell it was. All bulbs are stock to my knowledge, but front sidelights are a different white / yellow to the hid's, and a different white to the fog lights. I thought it looked a bit of an arse. Anyone know what the standard Lexus hid bulb Kelvin rating is. I think I'm going to look at matching the sidelights and fog lights up better for a more uniform look. To be brutally honest, I wouldn't buy any diesel in today's current climate. Never mind spending only 2k on a diesel. That's a recipe for throwing 2k and a hell of a lot more money down the drain. Injectors costing upwards of a grand, egr valves, dpf at end of its life.. Cost cost cost If diesel is what your looking at, then you want no newer than about 53/54 model years. This was when common rail diesels were entering the market so we're more powerful and refined but didn't have dpf filters etc. After euro 3 emissions dpf's came into play and are now part of mot and are a failure if they have been removed. On piaa website it outlines what guarantee the bulbs have and what failures are covered if your still looking at piaa bulbs Osram nite breakers are very good too apparently. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk -
Halogen or LED

Piaa bulbs have a great reputation and are very bright. -
Nice summing up johnatg. To be honest if you have halogens, then some proper decent bulbs like piaa bulbs which are not cheap but cheaper than a hid kit will make a worthy upgrade to your headlights, without the hassles of wiring ballast units and swapping hid units out at mot time. Piaa bulbs are very very bright and are used by numerous rally teams.. http://www.piaa.co.uk/bulbs/bulbs.asp Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

When you switch the headlights on with hid the lights come on and then the headlight moves up and down automatically to set ride height. It's very noticeable. My pug 407 did same so I assume it's not just a Lexus Peugeot thing. Plus it should have headlamp washers You are correct in that a halogen reflector is not suitable for hid bulbs. They do not focus the beam Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk you cannot achieve this cut off line that a hid / projector achieves with a halogen assembly so the headlight alignment test on mot shows this and is a failure https://goo.gl/images/cHgqEH

On about these intricate led headlights that are coming out.... In the future when I change cars again, I won't be buying a top spec car with led headlights fitted... Sealed units, cannot change the led bulb.. This come up in my Google news feed. And no I'm not a daily mail reader but it was in my motoring feed.. I know the Lexus is250 headlamps are not a cheap item to replace, but you can change the hid bulb should it fail... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/article-6354331/Replacing-headlight-bulb-small-car-cost-846.html £827 quid for a seat Ibiza !!! I suspect that's without labour... Bumper removal etc... A seat....... Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

To be fair nemesis UK, I do this with my Passat alltrack (poor man's Audi all road). It goes onto a set of VW 16inch alloys with full winter boots when the weather turns. Ensures the better half can get home even though she doesn't have the confidence I have in snow. But it's a pain. Once the conti sport 3s are done, that will be put on all seasons and winter tire package sold. Id be happy to run all seasons on the lex too. I'm hoping that the new Bridgestone a005 may become available in the Lexus 18 rear size. Whilst a full on winter is light and day better than an all season, an all season is still tenfold better than a summer tire. Tho being able to drive in snow is a big help too. That's not to say, if I can avoid sledging with a 44ton car transporter with 11 cars on board, I will. Manflu cough cough. Sicky... Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

Ku39 khumo are brilliant on the mx5. But get a full geometry setup from somebody like wheels in motion or roddisons racing Sheffield. Once set up the feeling / feedback of how much grip you've got is unbelievable and very close to how a motorcycle tire transmits it's feedback in that you can feel the tire biting into the tarmac.

Rather than runflats, I'd research what tires are available with a gel insert that increases puncture resistance. My 10 is250c has Michelin on the front and some Chinese Ditch finders on the rear. No I didn't fit em. My Passat alltrack has conti sport contact 3 with the gel inserts. They are at 30,000 now and still not down to the wear indicators. Uniroyal rain sports are very popular on the is250 Lexus forums and obviously a lot cheaper than the premium contis With the ride quality of runflats and risk of cracked rims from potholes with run flats, it's certainly not something I'd consider. The tires with the gel liner seem a far better alternative. I'm sure there are other manufacturers that do the gel inserts. The Michelin's tramline dreadfully by the way. Good year efficient grips are popular and quiet too.

Is250 remap

Nothing to be gained on a na engine. As for chipping diesels, I've yet to see one that has been done correctly. These so called diesel chips bang more diesel in but they are not able to sort the air side correctly which is why you can spot a chipped diesel a mile away with the amount of black smoke they kick out. I get exactly what the original poster is saying. I shift cars for a living. I regularly shift jlr, out of halewood, castle Bromwich and Solihull. Mind I shift pretty much all mainstream stuff and yes the Lexus I agree is better than most cars out there. I'd go as far as saying the Lexus is nicer than the rr velour or proper range rover imho. Apparently you cannot tow with an Audi RS4/RS6 either so I suspect it's a suspension / exhaust issue. Although I know some BMW's need the cooling system upgraded if it's going to tow. With the is250c I do wonder if it's a structural issue and with how much overhang behind the rear axle I'd suspect the suspension isn't suitable or you would maybe need spring assistors at the very least. I wouldn't have thought the nose weight on the tow bar would be very high at all either. Plus the 250c weighs something like 160kg more than the saloon I'd heard so suspension maybe the issue.
