  1. This Saturday in the Telegraph “Ask the Expert” was hosted by Alex Robbins. Looks like HJ has moved on. Shame.
  2. Years ago a colleague was responsible for the transport fleet at a Copper mine in Africa. They had over 100 Toyota pickups and SUV but the board directors insisted on 6 Range Rovers. His team spent most of their time keeping the RR on the road.
  3. OED suggest it is spelt comma. But thin agin, wat do thay no. 6 months ago I cudnt evin spel inginere, now I is wun.
  4. I think it should be Jürgen Klopp with no comma.
  5. Battersea is now pretty posh, it started to go upmarket when I left in the 70’s. Home to the US Embassy and the Dogs Home.
  6. Here is my alternative to disabling VSC. But, my Westfield DOESN'T have: VSC ECB Hill Start Assist Traction Control Airbags Power Steering Power Brakes Anti Lock Brakes Electronic Brakeforce Distribution + Brake Assist No issues with corners or insurance modifications but I'm not sure an IS with VSC turned off would overtake one on track. This weighs about 600Kg compared to an IS of around 1,620Kg and the sticky tyres help.
  7. More effective than the snow button. On a Corvette traction control is only connected to a bulb on the dash which reads “you have just spun”
  8. Nice article @Blackbeard Jeremy Clarkson not liking Lexus, apart from the LFA, is a perfect reason to buy one.
  9. When I worked in Lund and Malmö in the 90’s and sat outside cafes watching Swedish young ladies go by on their cycles, none looked like, or as upset as, Greta.
  10. This site provides a little balance on climate change. https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com
  11. It will always be buyer beware. Our NX from Lexus Stockport was fine, but the front Lexus badge was broken and grill had a small crack. Shame they missed it, but immediately suggested my local Lexus dealer could replace and Stockport cover the cost. All done and now happy. As Lexus increase sales standards may drop a little but they are still many, many times better than others. My point would be always complain loudly, that’s how we keep levels high.
  12. @serbarry I’ve given your post a like, just read where you learnt to drive. Respect.
  13. And if the Greens win in Germany things may get a lot worse for the "old school".
  14. I can remember being collected from Milan airport by a customer in an Audi doing 160kph reading his texts and deciding at the last minute to turn off. He was very Italian. He also told me a nice story about recruitment. They had 300 applicants for one engineering post. Not having time to read them all he removed the top 250 and placed them in the bin with the comment “I don’t employ unlucky people”
  15. Sorry, should have noted that Tesla refuse to report numbers, so not included.
  16. Here are the targets for Genesis in the Luxury USA market. Just shows how many traditional Ford fans still like to old Lincoln Town Car
  17. Also not sure the FWD/RWD/AWD issue is of interest to the majority of drivers. A few, who have snow need AWD and proper tyres but most only think they do. I would guess a large number of drivers don’t know, or care, if their car is FWD or RWD, but I do remember how hard it was for Saab to keep the FWD Turbo on the road. AWD worked well for the Quattro, I remember watching them in the RAC a long time ago.
  18. I think success for the Genesis brand depends on the time the parent company gives it to establish solid growth. It took Lexus many years from the launch of the LS400 and they made a few errors which were quickly corrected. I remember taking my LS400 for service in the early 90’s to a joint Lexus/Toyota dealer and getting a Corolla for the day. Moving to dedicated Lexus sites was a good move. Some brands like Infinity have bombed in the UK and then pulled from the market. Look at Chevy, introduced Camaro and Corvette in the late 1990’s. Let a few Vauxhall dealers sell them who didn’t have a clue how to service them. My new Camaro Z28 had a first service in Leeds and they left a dirty oil can on the passenger seat for me. Then they pulled out of the UK. Then they came back with a bigger range, spent $559 to sponsor Manchester United, and immediately pulled out Europe. For warranty on my Corvette there was just one UK dealer. If Hyundai gives Genesis time I think it will work, just look how far they have come already. I would expect Lexus see them as a significant competitor.
  19. We had a schedule of electricity supply so I knew which evening I would go home to my flat in Battersea knowing we would have no power. My girlfriend was a nurse at Westminster Hospital so I qualified for essential fuel for my Spitfire (no, the car) “Tomorrow was a better day”
  20. Another book worth reading about how some of the motor industry changed from a MIT study. “The Machine that Changed the World” by Womack, Jones & Roos
  21. Agree be great to have an old DS. Had a few Citroen cars, best and worst was my XM. Superb ride but the electrics, dear oh dear, left waiting for a breakdown truck 3 times. Renault 25 GTS and Espace were also good.
  22. Now, now, we had a French Au Pair when the kids were young. She was very nice.
  23. Let’s just agree we have different views. Still worth reading, plenty of collaborators to show many of his points were true. “Greek problems were similar to British ones???” Over to you for the last word.
