Also not sure the FWD/RWD/AWD issue is of interest to the majority of drivers. A few, who have snow need AWD and proper tyres but most only think they do. I would guess a large number of drivers don’t know, or care, if their car is FWD or RWD, but I do remember how hard it was for Saab to keep the FWD Turbo on the road.
AWD worked well for the Quattro, I remember watching them in the RAC a long time ago.
