  1. My 1982 Audi 200T was a wonderfully luxurious classic looking, quick and dangerous car. The build quality was second to none. I think they have gone downhill since. I should have kept it but 15mpg and insurance costs dictated otherwise.
  2. Well I never. One day I will RTFM. I will give it a try. Thank you.
  3. My father was a yorkshireman so I do not have to show my passport at Huddersfield at the new M62 checkpoint. He told me that the Scottish mothers put thistles in their childrens' pockets in order to teach them to be thrifty. However, in Yorkshire, I hear that their pockets are actually sewn up so that they cannot give any change. Here in sunny Lancashire we have very little money due to the high cost of breeding Whippets, not to mention the price of pies. Sorry to be such a xenophobe 👳‍♂️
  4. Here's a left field approach. I had a clunky noise for two years and no-one could find the cause, checking all the bushes, suspension etc. I finally found that it was the boot lid catching the body over some bumps. Fixed. Have a look at the bonnet to make sure that it is not moving slightly as the body may flex a little ( I know that it should not but... ). In my case, with the boot lid, the bump stoppers were doing nothing.
  5. I have come to the conclusion that there is no "thinking" by the insurance companies just statistics based on limited information. They will not reason with anyone. Unfortunately I am finally admitting defeat and the car is going SORN, at least over the winter. Tax at £695 did not help either. Main service due ( no faults ) but £700 plus. Finally Insurance at "God knows what". I do not want to sell it but the cost per mile at under 2000 miles per year is getting beyond a joke. The amazing thing is that the motorbike - a beast with 1868cc is only £200 per year Insurance. I am much more likely to get killed on that thing!🏍️🤠
  6. My two pennyworth. It won't do any harm and would be a good idea if the car only does lots of low speed short journeys or has stood for a while. Carbon build up, condensation etc.☺️ How true. The number of neighbours that like to blast off in their cold cars. Plonkers. Some would say that modern oil and engines do not reed molycoddling and don't even suggest careful running in. Do not believe them. I know differently from experience. Look after your car and it will reward you with low maintenance costs.😇
  7. The number of times I have had to restart the engine just to close the windows. I agree Aaaarggghh! What a pain. Why can't they leave the window controls active for 2 or 3 minutes after shutting down?
  8. We're not going to offer to renew your car insurance Churchill Insurance are refusing to renew the insurance for my ISF. I rang them to ask why. Person No 1 says don't know, passed to expert - Person No 2 says there are no notes on your policy and no reason, - passed to expert No 3. Rude lady with foreign accent cut me off during security questions again! Rang back - a nicer person says there are no reasons but our underwriters say no. It's the car, not you. I asked about CANBUS which does not apply to the ISF but underwriters say no - so, sorry about that Byeee. Thanks Churchill. It sounds a bit like chucking the baby out with the bathwater. They lost a good deal as the car only goes out during quiet sunny days and there aren't many of them in England!😕
  9. Yes. They even destroy Morgans and Bentleys. Yes. Story of my life..... If you are going to put an electric motor in something don't spoil a classic. Put the motor in a dustbin or fridge or some other appropriate receptacle.
  10. Just watched a programme on TV where they pull out the heart and soul out of a Lancia Fulvia and replace it with an electric motor. What a shame. All the character and "raison d’être " of the Lancia exterminated, to be replaced with a soulless propulsion unit. That's the problem. I think electric cars are for people that do not understand or appreciate what driving is all about. Put that in your pipe and smoke it chaps! Blue touch paper now lit.............
  11. This is a funny version. I liked the original too. Richard Cheese does lots of gigs in LA and has a lot of spoof versions of hits.
  12. I had the 2020 Volvo S60 T5. What a lovely impressive car and big and very comfortable inside too. I wanted the T8 or T6 but they were as rare as unobtanium when I was looking about 3 yrs ago. The T5 was fairly quick too, faster than the IS200t which has a similar engine config' but servicing was even more expensive than lexus. I think you would find the civic too small. The VW arteon is a revamped Passat and just a bit boring. The W12 engines are a financial nightmare. Even the VW V6 engines cost a fortune to maintain - Timing chain approx £4K+ according to some forum members .
  13. Just keep the IS; super reliable, not as lumpy as the ES. Live a little and get an RCF if you want a bit of excitement. AND it is RWD and LSD and V8 and so on.........😂. Or go cheap and buy a quirky IS 200t ...now that is an interesting car. Don't let Linas read this!
  14. I tried to find out if the IS models are vulnerable but got conflicting info. - Searches on the internet are always conflicting🙄 Does anyone know if the 2016/17 IS models or the 2011/13 Isf are affected? I have seen no reports of thefts but maybe nobody wants them or knows what they are? I have seen quite a few cars, all sorts of models, on the road with the passenger wheel arch trim damaged.
  15. Looking back thro' the posts - and here's Wilko doing a great job with his mates.
  16. Dr Feelgood - YES Wilko we miss you! And all his shops have gone now as well!
  17. Just had a listen WTF! I bet you were at Wigan Pier weren't you? 🫡 Now this is real heavy rock music .....
  18. I used to like all that stuff but ended up liking Siegfrieid's Tod, and Lohengrin's dad - Parsifal and Bruckners 8th. But I still like Frank Zappa, Devo, Who and Yes and ......it goes on ...Motown, Led Zep, Stevie Winwood, even gerry rafferty!, david Bowie, Elton John's early stuff - like "where to now St Peter" etc etc.. Desert Island Disc = Wagner's Ring Cycle - Sorry about that, but it is so complex that it could keep you going for years. Today's music ain't music!! It's all boring old cr@p
  19. You may well still be here after 23 years. God willing, you will be. You never know. But situations can change and you may want to move or have some kind of lifestyle change. All that expensive interest building up " We borrowed £70k and took the third option, ie, to pay nothing. If it runs to term then that £70k that we borrowed will have grown to about £264k that we owe them" That hit of up to £264K will put a big dent in your freedom of choice in the future. You may even want to go and live in Portugal in your "golden years" based on the mess that is happening in the UK. They make a ton of money out of you and can afford to pay third rate "celebs" to sell the policies. Anyway, you have done it now so........Best of luck for the future.☺️ BTW I see that you live in Lancashire as we do.. It does not rain as much in Portugal.⛈️
  20. I think equity release is a big mistake. 😟 You lose control over your future living. What about this Gov't scheme: https://www.ownyourhome.gov.uk/scheme/opso/ OPSO is a form of Shared Ownership available to people aged 55 and over. It allows you to buy an initial share in a OPSO home and pay rent on the remaining share. OPSO homes delivered through the new model of Shared Ownership will enable you to buy an initial share in your OPSO home of between 10% and 75% of its market value. Under the previous model of Shared Ownership, the minimum initial share you can buy in your OPSO home is 25% of its market value. OPSO works in the same way as the general shared ownership scheme, but you can only buy up to 75% of your home. Once you own 75% you won’t have to pay rent on the remaining share. You may be able to buy a home through OPSO if you’re aged 55 or over and meet the following criteria: your gross annual household income is £80,000 or less outside London, or your household earns £90,000 or less in London you are a first-time buyer, you used to own a home but can’t afford to buy one now or are an existing shared owner looking to move. Find out how to apply for Older Persons Shared Ownership (OPSO) (GOV.UK).
  21. Similar thing happened to me. Kids will step into the road at any time and any place. I was in a queue of vehicles doing about 10 mph and a child stepped onto a zebra crossing straight into the road directly in front of me - about 2 feet from the car!! I stopped dead and no harm was done, but the mother went berserk. I reviewed the camera footage and could see the child walking down the pavement, stepped behind her mother and out straight into the road with her head buried in her phone and without a single look or hesitation. Thank God I had the camera because if I had hit her I would be the villain ( on a zebra crossing ). I had not seen this coming at all and luckily was paying a lot of attention to the road etc at the time because it was very busy. I also had a situation where a man stepped out of a shop backwards and fell/tripped off the shop step into the road right in front of me. I just managed to swerve around him. BTW this all happened in France where pedestrians are even more unpredictable than here.
  22. I always got confused between William Tell theme and the Lone ranger theme on the telly. I like the bit below where Tonto refers to the lone Ranger as " He who knows nothing" kemosabe" might actually be "quien no sabe" meaning "one who knows nothing" Here's a good link: What does "quimo sabe" mean? 2 votes What does "quimo sabe" mean? 16270 views updated MAR 2, 2011 posted by humbertoromero 11 Answers 3 votes Welcome to the forum. That's not Spanish. The correct spelling is Kimosabe. Check out this llink updated MAR 2, 2011 posted by gone I see that the different site owners know how to google also. - 0074b507, MAR 1, 2011 2 votes http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IBVPgalgRAk/TMwuyGLcD3I/AAAAAAAACuc/9_ssTfs3_9o/s1600/Lone+Ranger+Kemosabe+Larsen.jpg updated MAR 1, 2011 posted by Gekkosan A classic! I miss Gary Larson. - pesta, MAR 1, 2011 lol - Snowleopard, MAR 1, 2011 1 vote This is from the urban dictionary. By the way, it is better to write 19th century than 1800s, which to many Spanish and English speakers implies the time period between 1800 and 1810. The Lone Ranger was a long-running early radio and television show based on a masked cowboy in the American Old West, who gallops about righting injustices, usually with the aid of a clever and laconic American Indian called Tonto, and his horse Silver. Tonto greets the Lone Ranger with the expression "kemosabe", which has also been written "Kemo Sabe" or "Kemo Sabhay". The origin of this expression is somewhat unclear, but James Jewell, an early director of the radio series, said the name comes from a boy's camp located on Mullett Lake, Michigan that his father-in-law had run from 1911 to 1941. The translation was said to mean "trusty scout." Fran Striker, the writer of the Lone Ranger scripts, said the actual expression was Ta-i ke-mo sah-bee, which he said meant "greetings trusty scout". In the pilot of the Clayton Moore TV series, "Enter the Lone Ranger", Tonto explicitly states that "Kemosabe" means "trusty scout". updated MAR 2, 2011 posted by Encalada 1 vote Interestingly i just saw this reference in my SAT Spanish book. It says that there is speculation that Tonto might actually by Mexican and the expression "kemosabe" might actually be "quien no sabe" meaning "one who knows nothing" In which case, the two are actually exchanging insults: Tonto = Fool and Kemosabe = Fool
  23. I had a decrepit Comma van. The body was parting company from the chassis. It was a thrilling drive all over the place. My 1 ton Thames trader was fun too. There was a bus stop underneath a motorway bridge and I could turn off the ignition while in gear and turn it back on under the bridge. This resulted in a VERY loud bang and a 4 foot flame from the exhaust. What a horrid thing to do scaring all those people, I am so sorry!🙄
