  1. Go and buy some more Maguires Gold. Proven and you know what is does. My Choice.
  2. My first "check" service at 10k miles cost me over £190. Northern Boy, we probably use the same dealer as you, did you get a breakdown of costs. I remember being charged an astomnomical amount for washer fluid on an IS200 service 2 yaers ago. I was only putting in water!. Lexus must be pouring in Evian.
  3. A place of our own for me too. With a little garden as well.
  4. In the same vein, just come back from Dubai at the weekend. The new IS300 was launched back in October06. Part of the work i do is sponsored by Toyata and talking to the dealer the new IS is flying off the shelf. They cant get enough of them and its all the colours we dont want Beige and Camberley Gold with Beige interiors. most of the new private taxis are GS's or big Chevys and all sand colour. Talking to the customer services manager at Al Futtaim Motors Festival City(Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Volvo, Chrysler, Chevrolet) main dealers They have a monthly sales quota for Toyota alone from this one dealership of 4000 units per month and the primary dealership is 5000. *** knows what the Lexus quotas are and its right next door. Biggest thrill of all was being past by a Bugatti Veyron outside the Dubai World Trade Centre at 1:00am on Friday morning OOooooohhh lovely. :P
  5. Hello everybody, just back from a long Christmas working break in Dubai. Sympathy please i have a cold. I work in traffic management and have much experience with this type of incident. And i agree with Simon K the council will deny liability, its VERY difficult to process a claim against a council for pothole damage. Along with the highway inspection records they will sight highway code and drivers responsibility to avoid obstructions or highway debris. If it was a person would you have still driven over it, has been used before as a response. Or you cant prove you did it on our road, it could have happened in an accident and your using the pothole to claim for your own damage. The burden of proof falls to you unfortunatly. Its easy for them to argue against it. A council dustbin wagon damaged my Astra a couple of years ago, their insurance company refused to pay even though my next door neighbour witnessed the bin wagon go past and the men looking at the car, she did not actually see it happen. NO CLAIM cost me £350.00 for a new wing and bumper painted. Good luck with the claim, but i think its an uphill struggle. Infinity........ i have had this happen twice in my old is 200, it didnt damage the rim as bad as yours but it knocked the tyre off the rim, sheffield city council were not bothered they said that the roads are inspected every 2 months for repairs that are needed, and that no repairs were required the last time they inspected the road so they were not liable as they were not aware of the pothole and i should claim on my own insurance. i hope your council dont have the same policy as mine?
  6. Picked mine up from Lex Newcastle on Friday, they wnated to keep it another couple of days to drive and test incase the problem reoccurred, but why have them drive it arround as a test vehicle when i can do the same. So the engineer has changed the other 02 sensor in the engine and all seems to be ok after 30+ miles The computer fault code may have directed them to the wrong engine bank o2 sensor (Which is a little worrying) This could have highlighted an error in the fault recognition systems maybe worth passing on to Manchester. Anyway i have the car back and all seems fine, touch wood
  7. It's Sainsbury's now - we've gone posh. I'm sure things elsewhere haven't changed much - though you'll be amazed to hear that Newcastle United have still won nowt.... :duh: Aye like i said the posh end, now't like the Co-op down wor end, watch you don't fall over that doctor. My missus used to be produce manager in that Safeway several years ago.
  8. :P Bonjour me old marra! I'm from Heaton. I had a run down to Birmingham and found that at 70mph the engine was ticking over at 2000rpm and returning 37-38 mpg too. Bloody delighted with that. Yep, thats good enough for me too after an IS200 Sport which practically need to followed by a Shell tanker the 250 lets me get better VFM on the milage. Owa Heaton, ill bet its the posh bit near the Hospital. You just reminded me of a Charlie Browns (exhaust place) radio advert from the late eighties on Metro FM. "So marra what's wrong with me car??" "Your over heating" "No I'm not, I'm in Shiney Row!!" :D *** this joke will make no sense at all to anyone who doesn't know Newcastle quite well so aplogies :) Anothor local one If ya waak t Walker, bike t Byker, Waduya dee at Wallsend, Fall off :P
  9. Just done 250miles = 33.9mpg Fantastic - YES :D (250 SE Auto) I, like several others on this forum have at times complained about service or buiild, but i must side with the more contented. Even though my car currently has a technical problem, (See VSC Check Thread) the service and courtesy i have recieved has been exemplary. At times i moan about fuel consuption but overall i am content, infact on long motorway journeys im almost ecstatic. The cabin is quiet and thankfully there are no rattles. The audio is the best OEM system ive ever heard. You can quote me on that i know what im taking about. I really do feel for the members who have not had the experience that Lexus brand promises, but is that down to the individual dealer or to a change in policy overall, lets not forget Lexus UK dont own the dealerships they just supply them with cars to sell, and specify the minimum standard that a customer should expect. Any insiders out there know what the Lexus service doctorine is?. You may be able to use it in any letter in future. I always find a hand written letter has a great deal more impact. Maybe to the JD Power survey people copied to LUK and Watchdog will get their attention. Jamboo, sorry to hear your pursuit of perfection has been a poor one. Infinity.............
  10. Does the mapping software license operate in the same way as normal software. Normally within 12 months of buying any software updates and revisions are available FOC, is this not the case with the Lexus mapping software. I would be most annoyed if i had recently bought a new car to find the mapping out of date and i have to buy the new version. OHHH ! :o :o :o I have, it is, and why should we have to pay for it, if the car is less thean 12 months old?. Infinity........
  11. Unfortunatly i have to report things have gone from bad to worse. The storey so far in brief 1. 21/11 VSC Check. ECU reset 2. 23/11 VSC Check. Engine 02 Sensor replaced. 3. 24/11- 29/11 VSC Check. Engine ECU replaced. 4. 29/11 VSC Check. I collected my car from Lexus Newcastle yesterday afternoon, drove home from work last night covered 7 miles in total after leaving the dealers and the same fault appears. I have taken the car back in this morning and the fault has been escalated to Lexus tech dept. I have no complaints about Lexus Newcastle at all, they have been fantastic. The error seems to be an wildly intermittant problem, before picking the car up yesterday LN did 45 miles as an extensive extended test with no problems. The only difference i have made to the car over the last couple of weeks is the addition of an OEM Sony Ericsson cable link from my phone (SE P990i) to the Aux socket in the car so i can use the memory stick in the phone as an MP3 player. If i connect the phone to the cable, then while im driving ( No i know i shouldnt do this but..)dial from the phone while its playing mp3's (MP3 player stops) the system generates a huge amount of feed back in the phone until the call connects. Has anyone else suffered from similar problems. I dont think its the phone/MP3 causing the fault, because VSC Check errors have occured while LN have had the car for testing without the phone, and i am told the two systems are so far apart electrically, any feedback would not effect the ECU, the Aux only feeds audio signals back to the MM system?. Please someone help, i cant stand the turbo lag in the loaner. Infinity...........

  13. I normally have quick nap before the Turbo kicks in That's the only problem with the diesel. The auto has almost no faults (from my perspective). Whilst the auto is quick enough, you do have to keep it in the upper echelons of the rev band and your foot right down. The diesel shoots in the mid range... No seriously - you do have to prep yourself more than most diesels for that quick getaway or quick blast past slower traffic. Once you've got used to it it's a hoot... On balance (and hindsight) for me the Auto is the one to buy...10 less MPG but probably worth it (unless you do lots of motorway miles). The manual 250 is OK too, but I'd stick with the oiler! A couple of weeks ago i did a run fron Newcastle down to the MPH show in the NEC and managed a round trip on one tank averaged 37.7 from door to door in one day, dammed good for an auto, although the local stuff varies from 23.6 upto 28 depending on how heavy footed i get (lower normally) PS. Northen boy. where to you hail from, im a Wallsend lad.
  14. With the sound that loud your eyeballs wobble, are you sure its the mirror shaking. ML Audio is awesome, have you tried some 5.1 audio its even better :P
  15. Foot handbrake what foot handbrake? I have a Auto SEL and i can sit here and say quite positivley I HAVE NEVER USED IT. It dosent make any difference to the car. Stop, put the car in Park and walk away the car has not rolled away yet. everytime i come back to it its still there. I am currently driving an SEL 220d courtesy car which has quite possibly the worst turbo lag of any modern car ive driven, Foot down and .............................................here we go, but i do like the torque in 2nd & 3rd i find 4th quite useless and prefer to jump upto 5th from 3rd. My 250SEL Auto is still in Lex Nuke, now having the ECU changed out, cos they cant find the problem causing the VSC problem anywhere else. (thats in 3 times in the last week) Auto is silky smooth through the box, and very comfortable. (Even for the fatboy) :) Still much prefer the auto to the manual, and the standard audio system lacks sparkle, depth and definition compared to the ML MM system. Infinity........
  16. I respect your right, to complain about anything you choose, BUT please be certain before you make any accusations. How long have you owned the car, could a previous owner have poorly maintained it?. Is or has the belt been rubbing against any thing along the drive train. Has wrong length screw or bolt installed previously then removed or a washer dropped during a previous service etc. accusations of this nature can be very dangerous. Note of sensible caution Infinity...
  17. One not mentioned in the previous link list is Yokohama , little more pricey but skicker than a very sticky thing, use to have them on my Sport, great tyre. Paid £85 each fitted at Foxhunters in Whitley Bay.
  18. UH-OH spoke too soon, the f :tsktsk: king lights come back on again. back to Lex Nuke once again. Dischuffed of Newcastle.
  19. Anyone else suffered from VSC (vehicle Stability Control) problems on the new IS Driving down the A19 on Tuesday, straight road, 70mph(ISH!) and the dash lights up like a seasonal shrub with VSC Check. Traction control and engine management lights on. Took iit in to Lex Newcastle and had it reset. Wednesday morning on the A1 again 70ish straight road same problem appears. Took it in this morning and left it for the day to get an engine 02 sensor replaced. Thought it was strange that an engine 02 sensor would cause a VSC fault By the way Lex Newcastle were first rate, coutesy car, fault repaired in 3 hours and the car cleaned and valleted inside when i collected. :D Infinity...............
  20. The absolute dogs kahoonas, and the wife doesnt drive. The thing was designed for autos but i adapted it for the manual with the gyro and tilt switch. only started it a couple of times in gear. Once jumped forward into a tennis court fence thankfully no damage. The jolt from the starter motor kicking in sets off the gyro and tilt sensor which triggers the alarm and shuts everything down. 9 minutes (Factory set) is enough or if its really cold, once it shuts down, start it up agian. leave the demister set on full blow, then the windows are clear and the car is warm. No more scraping those frosty windows. Just think of it......... heated leather seats just warming nicely, windows clear & heater already warm, chestnuts roasting on an open fire(Diesel only) but i suppose its no good for all of the noisey crude oil burning fraternity out there. You need 3 hours, 2 stokers and a decent head of steam before taking a diesel to the roads in the winter. Infinity...........
  21. Northern boy its probably a long way from your house to mine are you sure your wife wont mind coming all that way each morning.
  22. Hello everyone, A couple of years ago i had an Astra with an aftermarket Autowatch alarm which had autostart included (South African system) not strickly legal for us in the UK. press the start button twice and whey hey engine springs to life, runs for 9 minutes then shuts down all immobilisers and alarm still active. Gyro tilt and shock sensor if you left it in gear to shut down if the car jolted forward on the started motor. Really good system. Great fun in Asda car park. So imagine my delight when i find on the Sewells web page an autostart system for the new IS.(link) but sadly thats all i can find. I know they are not legal in the UK, as it is illegal to leave a vehicle with the engine running unattended, but getting into a warm car inthe morning is just heavenly. :D :D :D :D Anyone know anything else or price. 23. Woodford Lexus have about 6 autos ( one is Cadoxton) at the moment I assume you coudl get about 7-8% off alan Alan are the cars you refer to above at Woodford Lexus new or ex-demo? I tend to think the problem with delivery is the demand for auto's in other countrys. Lexus have launched the IS300 in the middle of October in Dubai the first time the IS has been sold in the middle east, talking to the Toyota dealer principal at Al Futtaim out in Dubai the demand is huge and they are all autos. They can not get enough and every second car is already a Toyota or a Lexus GS. The delays just got longer i think........ Infinity.............
  24. I agree last year i had my 51/02 IS200Sport with Privilege and i was way cheaper than anyone else, the last quote was with 4 years NCB £470.00 fully comp. But the excesses were quite high and benefits were not great. I have switched to Lexus Insurance (Royal & Sun Alliance) and now get fully comp on a new IS250MM Auto for £648.00 but the excesses are low and benefits much better. Infinity.......
  25. If any one has any info on MP3 interface units Vaistech or others please post it up.
