  1. don't like CVT gearboxes, likes sound of V8 engine, isn't a company car driver so stuff Gordon Brown, would like a boot bigger than a super mini and doesn't give a stuff about green issues?? :P
  2. Hi, Welcome to the club. Sorry to hear that (yet another) has dash rattles in GS. Check out this link for a discussion/solution thread. Sounds like you need the scuttle plate clips replacing and felting (1 day job I think) As for the phone kit - the upper tray is not a phone holder but that is where they attach the actual cradle - I have a Nokia 6230 cradle and I think they also do Sony Ericsson and Motorola cradles. Overall thoughts are that (once the rattles are fixed) the GS is a brilliant car...but still not a patch on the LS
  3. It's definitely not just Lexus - The sad fact is no matter what car you buy (unless it is an exotic with big waiting list) the first year depreciation is almost vertical. Also don't believe the depreciation figures for Mercs / BMW / Audi etc because if you dig deep you will see they are just as bad. The figures quoted don't take into account all the optional extras you have to pay for to make the car resellable. So you may we ll get back 60% of the value for your E Class in three years apart from 2 small things : 1) that someone actually wants to buy it :P 2) you will have had to have added satnav, leather, CD, sunroof, parking sensors, auto box etc to make is desirable and you will get 3/8 of sweet FA back on them. I speak as the man who paid 33k for a BMW 330i in "desirable" spec and got back 16K a year and half later So be prepared to keep cars, especially expensive ones for minumum 3 years....I certainly plan on keeping my GS for a LONG time :D Specifically Telephoneman - I suspect you may have got offered a whole lot more against another Lexus.... BTW - Parkers say you should get £30500 for a part ex on your GS.... Parkers Valuation
  4. Try something like Symantec Ghost 10 - this will back up a whole machine on a regular basis. So if worst comes to worst you simply restore the whole machine back in one go.
  5. then why buy a lexus instead of a toyota, or citroen or fiat etc....... ??? :)
  6. Of the three my fave is the Omega (used to have one) however for a budget of 3K how about : Rolex GMT 2? or Rolex Submariner?
  7. you should find the location of your library under EDIT/PREFERENCES/ADVANCED/GENERAL. In theory the files will still be there so simply import the whole directory back into Itunes. Good luck.
  8. Hi, I traded a 2003 LS in for a new GS last November so I am probably in a good position to advise. Postive GS is modern looking, quick, relatively frugal, has all the gadgets, is super comfy (better seats than LS), relatively quiet and certainly easier to park than the LS! :) As for options - the GS has one option which is "what colour do you want sir??" Negative Build Quality is not a patch on LS. It's good but the LS is way over engineered where as the GS is just well engineered. Mine ( and a few others) have been blighted by dash rattles and door rattles - a number of cars have been replaced by Lexus I believe so test drive carefully on a bumpy road and listen for creaks and groans from door panels and dash - check out my post in GS forum. Much harsher ride than LS and not as quiet but then again what is?? Overall - you will not be disappointed with GS unless you compare to LS which is in a whole different league of luxury.
  9. If the garage have any queries ask them to speak to either Dhale or Mel at Bracknell who have handled the car, or the senior technician George who did the actual work. Of course it's disappointing to get rattles in a new car but the customer service has been great throughout.
  10. The rattles are not that common just certain batches of cars. Symptoms : - creaking from upper vents under windscreen - rattle from deep inside centre dash - rattle / knock from passenger door/window/a frame - dash flexing over big bumps - creaking centre console Turns out mine didn't need welding and solved by : - Dash removed and all contact surfaces felted / padded (5 day job ouch ) - Mark Levinson stereo - connector cables padded - Upper speaker grills removed, padded and refitted - scuttle plate removed and refitted with felt. - centre console tightened. - passenger a frame trim removed to allow tightening of wiring loom. Only one rattle to fix and that is passenger door which sounds like window rattling but according to US LOC is actually faulty door panel. It's been a pain going through this but customer service has been fantastic and overall the car itself is awesome.
  11. I now couldn't live without both - however if I had to make a choice I would go for sensors front and back rather than just a camera at the back.
  12. I think it only rings through the speaker when you use the touch screen / speed dial. when you dial manually there is a short delay while the phone connects to the car bluetooth rather than the other way round. My GS is exactly the same.
  13. my watch collection my guitar collection CD collection the rolex for my mum the cash equivalent for my dad (and they still bloody visit me!! :) )
  14. Hi folks - had my GS 430 since December last year and overall it is one hell of a car. However it would appear (and this will sound familiar to new IS oweners :) ) that a small % have been afflicted by rattly dashboards. Initially mine was silent but overtime it has developed a very annoying creak / buzz near the upper vents just under windscreen. The good news is that Lexus Bracknell have been fantastic - removed and refitted dashboard. However the problem although lessened is still there. It appears that they had another car that had the same issue that was replaced. Lexus GB have since stripped this down and come up with a potential fix which involves the spotwelds on the bulkhead below the windscreen. Hopefully mine is going in soon for the fix so I will keep you posted as to how successful it is and also post up the fix number from Lexus.
  15. Have tried most of the "super" unleaded and found not much difference between them, although Optimax was marginally the best.
  16. anything ever happen with this group buy for IPOD adapter?? If not, anyone know what is the kit called and where can I order it from?? Cheers!
  17. Apart from checking the obvious that they aren't dirty - you would be surprised how small a piece of dirt can be before it sets off the sensor - I think you have a broken sensor. My old LS used to eat sensors every few months. Replacement under warranty takes no time at all. Also, do you have a tow bar as this can send the sensors mental also?
  18. 1) New GS 430 (ooops aleady got one of those :) ) 2) New 997 Porsche 911 Turbo 3) 1967 Dodge Charger 4) Range Rover Sport supercharged
  19. Put aircon on full and squirt Febreeze or Dettol anti bacterial spray into air vents under windscreen wipers. This will kill most smelly bacteria in the system.
  20. Be warned you can't transfer a whole phone book from the Nokia to car in one go - you have to do them one at a time. Easiest thing to do is to go to lexus dealer and ask them to transfer it for you. They usually carry a phone that will do it in one go.
  21. So Gordon is trying to be environmentally friendly?? What a complete moron - China is building 600 coal fired powerstations in next few years so even if all of UK drove small "clean" cars it wouldn't make the slightest dent on the CO2 coming from China. Overall a typical Labour budget - you have car, house, pension, job and want to get on in life you are screwed. ....
  22. Road noise in my 430 is fine - however my car has developed lots of dash rattles. Apparently it is a known issue with certain batches of cars. Mine is getting dash removed and refitted next week to (hopefully) cure it. Otherwise I can highly recommend GS.
  23. These are the settings on my car which seem to work. 1) Start the car 2) hold down the info button and switch lights on and off 5 times - service menu will appear 3) set incoming (top value) to +3 4) set outgoing voice (next value down) to +2 This seems to have fixed my reception problems.
