yep trading LS already :) The LS is a wonderful car but have changed jobs so doing lots more miles and having to use more multi-storey car parks and the LS is a long old car. The definition of bravery is to try and reverse park an LS in a London car park :D Ordered my GS yesterday - still get the benefits of Lexus ownership, the lovely V8 and even though it is only a foot shorter, the ability to park it without risk of heart attack. But just in case I ordered a silver one to hide the scratches. :P

Well, I just ordered a GS 430 to replace my LS so have 3-4 weeks to wait before it arrives. Went for Silver with black interior - not very adventurous I know but it will hide the scratches :) Also had a good look round new IS as well - fabulous car inside and out. Interestingly I saw at Bracknell some guys from Lexus Japan looking around as Bracknell is the newest built dealership. Lexus have just opened in Japan as a separate brand from Toyota so apparently they were seeing how Lexus UK run themselves.

Thanks for the update - I have already a test drive and like it a lot. I was worried it would be noisy compared to my LS but it wasn't bad at all. Negotiating on a new one at the moment although I doubt I'll get 9K off! :D Any owners of new GS who have had theirs for a while got any horror stories? Thanks.

Mr Mole I assume you work in the trade?? To answer 2 questions - there are in effect 2 margins. There is a margin that a dealer can give away, say 5% and a further % available which if given away would remove his ability to pay overheads etc. So in theory if a dealer gives away the whole lot then they will not make any money on a car. However remember that a dealer will also be making a tidy profit on maintenance and servicing which also pays towards the bills, staff etc. So please don't expect me to believe any sob stories about poor dealers not being able to feed their kids at Christmas because of evil customers demanding discounts - as I said there is a margin built into the price. :) I assume that you wouldn't negotiate on the price of a house either for fear of putting the estate agent out of business??? Secondly. unless demand far exceeds supply which only happens with very very few exotic cars then a car is not a unique or premium product. It is a mass produced product which may be priced as if it were at a premium. Lexus/Toyota produce thousands of cars a day - certainly not a unique product.

why ask for a discount?? When a manufacturer prices its cars they do so expecting a discount to be given. This margin allows dealers to sweeten deals for customers so they can sell cars and stay in business and for the manufacturer to make a profit also. By getting a discount you won't be stealing from anyone or devaluing the car or brand. So to answer the question "why ask for a discount?" - because a level of discount is already built into the price of the car.

convert your IS dash to look like a 1992 Toyota Carina cab :)

Ask for copies of any evidence they want to use against you, details of who was operating the van, their training certificate, what type of equipment it was, when it was calibrated and by whom & proof the van was legally sited. You may as well get them to earn the 60 quid....

on a PCP you should be able to get 7 ish %

if they won't drop the price to try and match internet price (ask anyway) they will drop the interest APR for the finance....

Was at Bracknell today looking at GS. They have an IS250 in and it looks fabulous up close. Really like the design direction at Lexus at the mo.

If the IS gets close to the 325 then take that as a very nice compliment. Whatever our Lexus bias maybe the 3 series is a fantastic car.
