  1. Hi, Just noticed that the Traffic Avoidance system on my sat nav is claiming it no longer has reception. The traffic information used to be carried by Classic FM but now it just says "No Reception". Anyone with this system know if this is a problem and what the fix is? Like many things in life, how did I manage without it before and now I want it back? :)
  2. So it's not just me then! :) Thought it was just my accent. The system seems a bit random to be honest - accent or no accent I am sure that if I ask for petrol it sounds nothing at all like bowling alley which it often then tries to display. :)
  3. glad all okay...however they say big cars are better in a crash, so you had better get an LS just to be safe :)
  4. I would definitely recommend a tracker. When you go on holiday you let them know so even if they steal it with your keys the tracker will be switched on automatically.
  5. Just to confirm Lexus did this for me on my GS and it seems to have improved the call quality.
  6. It may be caused by mildew in the evaporator. I had same problem on LS 430 and solved it with anti-bacterial spray (febreeze). put A/C on max, exit car and close all doors and windows and then locate intake vents (under wiper arms). Spray the anti-bacterial into the vents for 30 seconds and leave A/C running for 5 minutes. This got rid of the smell for me - good luck :)
  7. Banks will NEVER send you an email asking for your details so just ignore them. Alternatively I find it quite amusing to forward these emails to different recipients such as sending the viagra one to the valium one and the valium one to the bank one..... :)
  8. It would be common sense to believe that somebody would notice they had hit your car with theirs?? Not likely! Where I work we have had several cars damaged by our own employees. Sorry to be sexist but I firmly believe that a bunch of young office girls off to MacDonalds, all jump in their little car, chatting away and simply don't even register that they have opened doors into nearest car. No malice intended by them I'm sure but opening doors into other cars is not something they bother to react to. Twisted Logic - best advice for parking is find a Maxed up Saxo and park right next to it because you can be sure it belongs to a young lad who thinks the world of it. :)
  9. My insurance is via Directline and they have an arrangement with Autoglass. They fixed a big stone chip free of charge so I assume most other insurers have similar arrangements.
  10. I got a stone chip repaired by Autoglass and the bloke said if the windscreen needed replacing that Autoglass would recommend Lexus/Toyota did it to ensure correct parts used. You can still claim from insurance as if Autoglass did the work apparently.
  11. This may or may not influence your decision but here is a piccy of me with a 1. I did it for charity. Apologies if I scare anyone with the picture :D Scary Grade 1
  12. check out Yngwie Malmsteen if you like classical rock guitar.
  13. if you do get a ticket make sure you request a copy of the 2 photos so you can check for yourself if you were speeding. Many "safety" camera partnerships don't check the photos and just issue the NIP and most people just pay up.
  14. I don't think the actual view of the map changes but you do get updated roads and updated/more POI. Unless you do mega mileage it may be an expensive luxury if you upgrade.
  15. Glad you like the car - it seems that lots of Nokia phones are unable to transfer whole address books to the car. Most Lexus dealers will have model such as Motorola or such that will. Take your SIM card to them and they should transfer the numbers.
  16. I trade shares on Nasdaq using an Etrade Brokerage account. You deposit money into it just like a normal bank account, buy and sell your shares and any profits can either be left in the account or they can wire the money to UK bank account. I have used this for trading some company stock options for the last 8 years and find them very easy to deal with.
  17. Just traded my LS430 in for a GS so can give you my thoughts (it's for sale from Bracknell if your interested :) ) Economy - short journeys I got around 17 mpg but if you do longer journeys 28-30 mpg was common on a long motorway journey. It's an 85 litre tank so range is huge. Servicing every 10K - minor service was about £190 and I think major service is about £350. Tyres - I got 25K out of the rears before replacement. Generally bulletproof quality but be aware that the LS has LOTS of electrical toys so check them all (seats, mirrors, sun roof, self closing doors, steering wheel etc). It is also worth getting a new battery fitted if you buy one. Also be aware that the LS is a heavy automatic so get brake pads and discs checked. Only problems I cam across during my time with LS was a sagging drivers seat (many are used as chauffeur cars) and mine went through a few front parking sensors. All of this covered by warranty. Overall, a great car that you won't be disappointed with! Good luck
  18. I assume it's the leather and not the seat frame itself?? I found a little bit of soap rubbed in can sometimes stop the squeak or the stuff you feed/clean sofas with also works as it softens the leather a little. Good luck.
  19. Very surprised the dealer wouldn't honour the trade in value - after all it wasn't your fault the car was delayed. When I traded my LS in my trade in value was never changed despite a longish wait.
