  1. In that case I must apologise as I am test driving a BMW X5 on Saturday - sorry :)
  2. My 2003 Ls is on Dunlops and have 15K miles on and still going string with even wear.
  3. Out of interest my RoadAngel 2 picked up what I assume was laser scatter from the cars in front and went ballistic.
  4. Driving today saw police car on side of motorway with hand held laser speed gun - as did most people forcing a near pile up as brakes applied furiously! However I was wondering what happens if they clock you with the gun. How do they nick you? I assume they have to hop in their car and then pull you over?? Anyone know? Funny what you wonder about on a long car journey :)
  5. Aido - check this out . You'll smile loads. www.retrogamer.net
  6. Creative Zen Xtra 60 Gig - 7000 songs and counting :D
  7. Well after reading about other people's misfortune I guess it had to happen. Took the car out on a few errands today and all looked well but when I got back and parked I opened the bonnet to fill washer bottle. Noticed that some :tsktsk: has caught my right front wing just behind the headlamp. No dent luckily but it looks like someone has taken a brillo pad to the paint work or I have driven through a hedge. - lots of circular white slashes in the paint. Tried to polish it out but it will need fettling. Off to Lexus tomorrow to get a quote. May as well get my parking dents done at the same time.... My theory is that when I parked at the petrol station some idiot has bounced past with a basket of shopping and caught the wing.
  8. I agree V40 had rough engine and slow performance but it was the most comfortable car I have ever driven and was very reliable - more so than either the Lexus or BMW.
  9. Citroen BX 1.4 Another Citroen BX 1.4 :) Citroen BX GTI Auto Mk 3 Golf GTI 16V Volvo V40 2.0 SE BMW 323i SE Auto BMW 330i SE Auto Lexus LS 430 :D the best car I have ever owned?? By a whisker the V40 surprisingly with LS close second and BMW 330i a very close 3rd
  10. I am originally from Durham and my parents and friends still live there so I am often around.
  11. You should NEVER put an auto into N to coast... . . . . . . . . . . . this would mean you have to put your sandwich down and get crumbs everywhere :D
  12. Think I have lost the logo...
  13. That's what I forgot to mention - they work! Less Gatsos, more "slow" auto-signs, less w@nkers hiding in their talivans, more traffic cops. That's what we need. ← couldn't agree more! BTW does anyone still believe that camera partnerships place cameras solely to save lives and not to make money?? It would be interesting to know how the percentage has changed in the last 10 years..
  14. IMO - ls430 is about the quietest car you can drive. New GS was mechanically almost as quiet but more road noise. S Class still very quiet but more road noise than LS. Most first time passengers in LS comment on how ridiculously quiet it is :)
  15. One near me which flashes "SLOW DOWN". Even though I know where it is and that there is no camera to catch me if I sped past, I still slow down automatically!! Must be psychological but it works whatever it is.
  16. 1pm should be okay - anything after 3 will be much slower.
  17. which suggests there should be national review of speed limits, many of which were set in the 1960s....
  18. I thought it meant you only used battery power and not the engine. Useful in town??
  19. I agree but what do we do to save children's lives?? Nothing because most cameras are not in built up areas but on main roads and now Motorways. So habitual speeders can drive at speeds which are certain to kill anyone who gets in their way with little fear of being caught but we have a 40 mph speed limit on the M1 to protect the 3 workmen on their tea break! Like I said if they had set out to save lives instead of placing cameras to make money then less people would be killed and injured but this isn't happening. :)
  20. My 4 euros worth.... I am not against cameras in general. If they had originally put cameras outside all schools and ONLY put highly visible cameras in blackspot areas and made the speed limits clearly visible I would be all for it. However what has actually happened is that cameras have been used to generate revenue and this makes most motorists angry. Previously safe roads have had cameras hidden behind trees and road signs and limits randomly reduced. At the very least if they owned up and said yes it is nothing more than revenue recognition we could at least feel vindicated but to continue with the "speed kills" mantra is sickening. Do you seriously think that if "safety" camera partnerships had to give away all the money from fines to charity that there would be so many authorities eager to implement cameras?? I doubt it. Speed does not kill - bad driving does. But it is hard/expensive to measure and combat bad driving but very cheap and easy to measure an arbitary speed. Speed cams are the only reactive road safety devices - you are informed that you were in a dangerous situation after the fact by letter. Imagine the same philosophy was applied to road signs?? Eg. approaching a dangerous bend the local authorities decide to hide the sign that tells you that you are approaching a dangerous bend behind a tree and, after you have plummetted to your death over the cliff you knew nothing about your next of kin get a letter to inform you that the road was dangerous and you should have been more careful near the cliff!! Ridiculous isn't it but this is how cams work! :duh: I also find it very annoying that so much visible effort is put into catching motorists ( 9 police on a speed trap in Bisley) but I have never seen as much time and effort into catching muggers or burglars. Ask yourself when you last saw 9 plod in your community and they weren't trying to catch motorists??
  21. True - you hardly ever see any speeding on the ring road (A610) ← I assume you also don't see any bad driving at all, tailgating, lane swapping, sudden braking?? I can only comment on my local roads but drivers now spend far too much time looking for cameras and at their speedos rather than watching the road.
  22. why do you want more? Wouldn't you prefer more traffic cops who can use common sense rather than dumb cams that can't take into account time of day, weather, car condition, driver condition?? Or better driver education, better designed roads..... IMO if money had not been invented and hence we didn't pay fines how many Cameras do you think would be up and running - none.....
