  1. eeek, I am no car expert but doesn't look too healthy- Those cars won't be driveable for a long time- the floor mats are going to take ages to dry!
  2. It's an insurance that's in addition to your normal insurance. It will pay the difference between what your normal insurance pays out and what your car cost when it was new. So, if your £20,000 car gets written off and your insurance pays out £17,000, the GAP insurance will pay out another £3000. GAP insurance is usually only available for fairly new cars (usually up to 3 years old I think). ← Ahh I see, sounds like a pretty sensible idea. So I take it after 3 years the GAP policy is taken off? I am with elephant.co.uk as they are pretty cheap, but I reckon they don't have this option. There are only a few months left till my IS is 3 years old too :(
  3. From what you tell me mate it seems the tendons are intact, which is a good thing. That pain is probably because of the broken bones near that finger rather than the finger itself. Hopefully will settle down soon- keep on poppin them pills :) I think London is probably one of the worse places for car crime, purely because there are just so many cars (and loads of really nice ones) and the population density. The police really needs to crack down on this stuff, as I am sure the money gained from car crime probably contributes too all sorts of other nasty operations.
  4. Is that close to where u broke some bones/injured ligaments?
  5. That's a little to technical for me.... i can move em up and down .. to a certain extent ... just sideways ... really hurts !!! ← Hehe sorry, bad habit! Can you move your wrist up and down and to the sides? And your fingers?
  6. Totally, the adrenaline rush can sometimes save your life but sometimes get you into a heap of trouble. I guess controlling your instincts just comes with experience (whether good or bad). At the end of the day it shouldnt have to come down to it, but society is deteriorating- I think the whole gang/crime culture plays a big part, and films like 'gone in 60 seconds' and GTA probably don't help the situation too much. I know how you must feel about your hands mate, it can be really frustrating- I see patients every day with similar problems, and even the most simplest of tasks can be a challenge. Thank *** none of your nerves were injured though- that would have been a whole different kettle of fish! Were your extensor tendons or flexor tendons damaged?
  7. Well usually some form of contractual evidence is needed- signed credit agreement etc. It just seems that they really don't have much proof of the outstanding debt. And I think that is their biggest weakness if it ever came down to a legal battle. It's like me phoning someone up and saying they owe me 2 million quid, but i lost the piece of paper which they signed to prove it. Sounds like utter crap to me!
  8. Damn, thats pretty sad. East Ham is not the most pleasant of areas. I think if anyone was to get into a similar situation, just to give up their car and let insurance deal with it. As much as everyone has a right to own what they pay/work for, at the end of the day it could cost you your life- is it really worth dying for?
  9. The number was on the letter.. although the phone number is in a different colour ink. But this may be done on purpose for different departments. They did state where the so called debt was from and the account number of the debt. I got in store credit one xmas and I know i paid them. But the receipts i do have do not prove it was paying that actual loan.. So that is no solid proof. She went on and said "did you not save the receipts"... I said "do you keep your receipts for 8 years?" If the CAB turns round to me and tell me that I dont have no leg to stand on then those idiots will get £1 a month standing order. Let them struggle for their money.. but i tell you there is no way I am paying anything until the last moment.. thats just admitting the debt 8 years I find very hard to remember anything apart from really weird times with women and booze! :winky: Thanks to everyone for your help. ← They still sound retarded to me, coming after you after so many years. I don't think they really have a leg to stand on given the circumstances. Good luck with it all mate, hope it gets sorted profitably.
  10. I blame the schooling system- or the lack of.
  11. There is a strong chance of that mate .... as mine was the 2nd one to be stolen in the same day ... same place .... by same means !! ← Any idea on what happened to other victim or if they were injured?
  12. I absolutely agree- If they cannot even tell you what you owe them money for, and where their records are from, then how are you to believe them? Keep a record of their correspondence, and ask them to send written evidence of why you owe them money, and keep a record of all letters you send to them (registered post may be a good idea). I would go to CAB or to a solicitors firm and get professional advice if this is really distressing you. Incidentally, where did you get the phone number from to call them? From the letter they sent you or from the website?
  13. That tw*t that jumped out of the car was in greater danger of being run over by oncoming traffic from the other side of the road. Gotta love america- thank *** it is separated from us by a lot of water.
  14. Maybe they are still designing it lol. They are waiting to see what everyone else does then they will copy and paste bits of all the other designs.
  15. one with blue lights - and a big sign down the side that says ..... "working for a safer london" err ... not quite :D ← You wouldnt get car jacked again tho IS300 mate :winky: ← Yeah thats true- who would want to steal a vauxhall?!
  16. Just curious, but how old was he?
  17. The IS300 is never a bad choice, and if you deffo wana stay lex, then i reckon its best option considering everything. One question, what is GAP insurance?
  18. Hi Scarface mate, I am really sorry to hear about what happened- as everyone else has said, the most important thing is that you are ok. A car can be replaced, your health/life can't. I'm sorry to hear about the tendon injury- but as you are young that will hopefully heal up quite well in a little while. Don't try and rush back to work or strenuous activities too quickly, you need your recovery time. As for the incident, I think there are some very valuable lessons to learn. It provides an arguement for increased security measures, such as a tracker system (if nothing else its a deterrent to all but the most devious theives). I also live in London and I always lock my door as soon as I get into the car, before anything else. Maybe it would be an idea to create a thread/section devoted to driver safety/security to minimise the chances of something like this happening to any of us. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope that the insurance company pays up.
  19. Just out of interest, my understanding of the snow button is it allows you some wheelspin. Traction control bogs the engine down too much in the snow and even make you stall. Some spin is required to move and is essential when snow chains are fitted. Anyone agree or disagree....... ← I have also heard the snow chain thing. I also have an A class merc, and it has a snow button or something similar which should be used when u attach snow chains.
  20. It's funny where this thread started and where it's going! From talking about theives, all the way to purchasing fully automatic firearms (albeit BB). I think we should form a LOC Vigilante elite Unit of crimebusting lexus drivers :D Can I be the cool one who gets all the chicks?
  21. you have summer tyres fitted as standard on the IS in the UK. ← Oh crap. The air is getting colder by the minute- oh well time to get the mountain bike out.
  22. The supercharger sounds like a brilliant upgrade, but a few questions if anyone has any thoughts (about the questions, not of a sexual nature or otherwise) 1. exactly how does the car insurance policy get impacted? Do companies freak out? 2. How does it hit the already depressing mpg figures? 3. How great is the difference in performance compared to factory IS200's? :D
  23. Retarded question (it's what I do guys) but which are the standard tyres that come with the IS200? Summer or winter? I have the dunlop ones (hmm i probably sound like a clueless bimbo) that came straight from lexus dealer. Is there any way of telling which they are?
