  1. Lexus Croydon: 168 quid!!!!! for 10k, BUT Excellent service, and over a grand of warrenty work/replacement bits!
  2. I had same problem. If you are adventurous enough, find a CD that you are not TOO fond of first. What you must do is continuously go back and forth between the CDs in the changer, then try to get to the CD that is stuck. If it doesn't come out after a while, then the computer might suggest that there is no CD in the slot at all. So after this, press 'load' to load a CD into the slot that has the stuck CD in it (it will be allowed by the hi-fi), then see what happens - it might realise that something is wrong, eject the newly inserted CD and then show that there is another in the slot, then you could eject that one - once you have it back, never put it back in! I have had problems with only one particular CD, had to go through this twice.
  3. Just read the new Topgear survey. I think the lack of 20bhp will be more than offset by everything else on offer! I love driving it fast, the straight 6 engine and the 6 speed gearbox makes it so much fun to rev, so it should have no problems keeping up with an Audi/VW/Seat/Skoda 1.8T (150-180bhp models, not the 225bhp ones!), if not faster on a tricky road!
  4. Oh.... forgot to say.... how nice it was to see the 3 series SOOOO close behind... NOT!!!!!
  5. I am glad that everyone else agreed with me about the pros and the ...... 'lack of' cons for the IS!!!! So delighted for me for chosing the car, for Lexus, for my dealer, for everyone here!!!!!!!!!! HAHa! Also very glad that my last titch of a car came 3rd! Happy reading everyone... go buy it.... and frame it (for your car!)!
  6. Who was that? A beautifully new Sport in Black, 02 plate near the aforementioned store, giving the guy who was standing behind the car (while you were trying to reverse) hell (with the engine revving), Lovely!!!!! I have never heard 'my' car being revved before from the outside.... sounded a bit strange..... cold engine/exhaust?
  7. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, those were the days..... can't wait till I get a new car again!
  8. Is it that case that ONE brake light is out then it is not roadworthy or does it have to be all of them? Nowadays there are so many brake lights at the back, not to mention the LED strip, so what if there is only 1 LED left?
  9. Having previously been a Smart car owner, I have got to really understand that all the safty systems work AS A WHOLE in the event of an accident. So I wouldn't rely on it if the airbags are not as they should. And as we have mentioned here as well, it could be the pretensioners as well, if they fail and the bags don't, then say a big hello to the bags. But anyway, hope they fix it now. How come it'll cost u a tenner?
  10. That's really annoying and dangerous, these people! Twice I have been in a hurry and following people in C. London and then realise that they don't have brake lights! Had to be a good samaritan and pull up next to them and tell them each time. One of them was a well reputed C.London people transporting company's (A. L) car! Imagine if you were sat in it! Good point about the legality..... I wonder too..... p.s. 100th post!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whooopeee
  11. Glad someone agrees! :) How come I haven't seen this bright red motor when I am there! Definately don't judge a book by it's cover, took it to 1st service and my reaction was.... oh, is that it (the service place), then everyone was so friendly and helpful and my car came out feeling and looking new. As for the 993, don't worry, I will let you guys know how it fares against the Lex in terms of build!
  12. I think coming from a R75, you would be in a bit of a culture shock, plastics (although pretty high quality) and the firm ride! But then it will corner a lot better, no doubt, and give you the RWD feeling like no other. I think with everything you have read on this site regarding problems, they are more irritations then real real problems. As I think here we have room to complain about irritations, whereas with other cars they would be tempting fate to talk about them!
  13. Happened to me once, it didn't like a brand new CD that I bought! :flaming: Swallowed it whole and then wouldn't eject. In fact it doesn't even recognise that it is in there. Eventually, I worked out the timings, etc of what it was going when changing discs, then I put in another CD to that slot, and then ejected them both, one after another, from apparently the same slot. So, no need to go to dealer. I play CD-Rs fine, although the pick-up is a bit weaker than on my computer, normal cd players, but the one that got jammed wasn't a CD-R
  14. Yes mate, that one... All I can say is.... I have been a long term Londoner near that area, was genuinely interested in buying a one year old IS200SE, had all the money there, and they didn't wink once or offered me a test drive (twice!). I ended up with a very good dealer and a near spanking new car instead of a one year old one! And one happy Lexus customer.... had it not been that episode. What am I going to get next? Well, I am moving to the continent and will be working hard, so might not need a car at all, but might need a shopping trolley for the weekly shopping run, so as it saids on a tin, a Smart car probably, a 1-2 year old one so it doesn't depreciate anymore. Because I am going save to get to either get a 993 Carrerra 2 Coupe with about 30k-40k on the clocks, or a Nissan 350Z within 2 years. Help me choose guys! I am a little weary of 2nd hand cars above 15k. But it would be lovely if it turns out to be a nice one, 993 should have impeccable mechanicals. I might by then be tempted by the IS430, but have been a Porsche fan all my life.
  15. What I meant was... for that kind of money, you could have easily bought a V70R AWD, Boxster, IS300, etc, etc.... so why are people so silly?
  16. Does anyone know what are the cut off points for certain milage/price of 2nd hand cars, e.g: I want to sell my car soon, it's a 51 reg Sept 2001, facelifted ex (50miles only, 4 days only) Demo car in Platinum Ice, with Mats, and everything standard IS200SE with 12,500 on the clock right now. I have to sell it 'cos I am leaving the country, really upset 'cos it feels better the more I drive it, but I want to take it on a trip to Switzerland and back, so the miles would look closer to 14k-15k after that, does anyone know how that would effect the resale? Thanx
  17. OOOOUuuucccch about the damaged wheel. I am really an*l about my alloys... had a puncture 1st week! (YES!) and took it to a Kwik Fit, then some dude there checked it for me and patched it (even though he said it was a bit close to the side, but did me a favour, no problems so far 10k on) and took forever putting it on and off, as I was staring at him ALL THE WAY! He was real nice, 'I'm sweating dude! I like your wheels, sweating here!" and made hardly any marks, but still one or two little ones. On the note of Metallic or not, have the new cars (post Oct 2001) got much shinier alloys or what? My car always look like it has brand spanking new alloys at night under low light..... the edges near the tyre are always sparkling, even though there are hardly clean thesedays.
  18. I have the Dunlop SPS9000s on the car from new, I was surprised at the low wear rate as I drive it HARD. I do notice that there is a bit of scruff on the sides, but both the sides are the same. Strange since this country should have higher left front wear due to roundabouts. But overall, I am very very impressed with the low wear. I am now on 12000 and it has been about 6000 hard hard miles at least (the rest is on M.way). Hard braking, hard sweeping corners, few H.brake turns, lots of traffic light starts, some power slides when it was went and tried when not.... and it's still only about 1/2-3/5 worn! I use F33psi and R35psi too! It's perfect set up too I think. I drive above that speed mentioned most of the time (middle of the night, etc) but have found no problems or need to bump up the pressure.
  19. Would you lose the IS200s' great brake feel and stopping power if you change them though. I won't give up the brake feel for anything! Althought I did initially hate the brake dust too, it has gotten a lot better now that it is dry and that it is a year old car now. But after about 3 month even, I felt that it was getting a lot better with the brake dust problem. Try polishing the alloy with car polish once you have cleaned and dried them, then the dust comes out really easily.
  20. I had a light to medium key down a side rear door. Tried to: Wash with autoglym shampoo, dry completly, then T Cut Metallic (quite a bit around the line, but only around it), polish off, then autoglym super resin polish, then polish off...... looked ever ever so slightly better, then a week later.... mark was looking just the same.... basically, the T-Cut did jack shi*.
  21. Oh yeah baby! What an exhaust note. Driving for the first time properly with all the windows open (I am normally an a/c man), and really giving it some, I didn't realise what I was missing all this time! I knew it was good, but most of the time I only hear the engine....but now I think I will start wearing a lot of jackets etc to combat the gale force in the car! What a note! Better than old and new 325i I think (am a big fan of the noise), sounds more 330i. (I am a big hater of beemers, esp 3s by the way, but I give them credits where credits due.)
  22. I concur....... I frequently brake hard at these set of lights after a wide wide curve.... and just at this bit of tarmac before the lights, it's very very grooved for some reason (as the rest of the road is perfectly fine)..... and the car 'nibbles' or tramlines alarmingly. Almost like tourque steer on a FWD car. definately somethign to do with the tyre and wheel size.
  23. Again last night at 1:30am on the A3 into London, just before Esher... Was doing 75 'cos all the trucks where flashing their lights.... so I thought there must be a copper.... didn't see though in the end.... probably because of this bemmer t*at! So anyway, in the slow lane for once instead of glowing down the middle/fast with no traffic this time at night... in any case, nothing would normally be faster...... Then all of a sudden past a junction, a car joined about 100m behind, had his full beam on..... so I started flicking my rear fog on/off... eventually after about 5-10 flicks, it worked.... he was catching slowly, then as he got about 20m near, he was in the middle lane (typical no?), didn't know it was a beemer still 'cos I was blinded.... and switched them on again!!!!!! I was soooo ****** off, I really wanted to catch up and return the favour.... in the end, I did, for about 1/2 mile when he was still in front and no other cars..... WHY??!!??? I Hate them so much.... Oh, sorry, it was a 325i (Silver, of course) convertible, driven by some nerdy looking Bloke, was hanging 2mm away from the steering wheel as well. I saw him again when we entered the 50mph zone. I caught up 'cos he was doing 30 then! and didn't look like he knew where he was going! Typical.....
  24. Still can't get over it.... How much u think these muppets spent on it?
  25. I didn't test drive anything else. I wanted the IS from the first time I saw it.... from deep inside... I knew that..... 3 years on, time to buy a car.... Was looking at a 2.8 V6 golf but it is a golf afterall! Also wanted a then not out YET Merc Sports Coupe, but the prices! Then I thought of the Alfa, another car which I was also wanted.... I would have gotten a 2.5 V6 or similar in Red and creamy Leather! But it was FWD and the build and depreciation just wouldn't do... mostly the FWD is a problem, as I have grown bored of FWD cars. Then saved up every penny to be able to get a IS200 SE, I needed the SE because of the wheels... I was going to have nothing else.... Went to the first dealer in Central central London (u all know which expensive location....) and they were right W*ankers!!!!!!! I was so furious with their attitude (just because I was young and my friend wasn't dressed prim and proper) but then my friend pursuaded me to go further out of London to Croydon, and wow, great service..... facelifted car (2 days old) as demo car...... let me drive it out (was a bit shaky 'cos I haven't driven a manual for years), wasn't too impressed with the steering at first, but then I still went through my life savings and bought it!!! Now my pride and joy... but soon to go in one month :(
