  1. Morning Ladies & Gentleman, I am a fairly new poster here, so go easy! I have a lexus Is250 in matador red, and I need a new exhaust system, due to the old one blowing, this includes the rear tail pipes, the mid pipe and the catalytic converter. I am looking for a setup which gives me a nice tone, but something which isn't so loud it disturbs the neighbours, what are your thoughts? Id also like to hopefully add some power in the process, i have been told an invidea mid pipe with resonator will give me the result i am looking for but i just wanted a second opinion, i was also toying with the idea of just heading over to https://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/car-parts/Lexus/IS250/2.5L/Petrol/Premium/Exhausts/Catalytic-Converters/LEX5005H/1/34?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvdDks9aO8wIVjLt3Ch3xMwq7EAQYAiABEgIZWfD_BwE have anyone used these guys, and what are your thoughts? They seem reasonably priced for sure. And getting this with rear pipes of my choosing, but i am not sure on the best route to take, any help is greatly appreciated, and again, im looking for a tasteful mod, nothing too boy racer-ish, but nonetheless a nice tone, and i NO DRONE (I cant stress that enough) Thanks for your time, - Mitch
  2. Hi Guys, I recently bought a 2007 IS250. 73k miles. All good but after hitting the brakes 5 or 10 times the front drivers side starts for squeek (high pitched). Then when I reverse it makes an odd lower pitched longer squeek. I took it to the garage and they did the following to check if all OK; - Removed, cleaned and refaced the front brake pads - Checked the brake caliper - Cleaned out carrier and lubricated the sliders - Checked rear pads and discs for wear and tear Everything was OK, but they still squeek! Anyone know what the issue maybe? It's a great car, but the squeeking is ruining the driving experience, especially with the windows open in summer 🙂 Many thanks
  3. Hi all, Anyone know what this plastic triangle is? It's only on one side. Was there she I brought the cat. I want to tear it off but worried what it could do to the paintwormy. James
  4. Has anyone tried this, is it possible? wondering if you can and if you get the extra functionality of the with the locks?
  5. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has installed any of the optional features on their 2nd Gen IS. More specifically, I'm referring to the following: Adaptive front lights Auto-dim compass rear view mirror I did some research and did find information on other forums on installing a rear windows shade, illuminated door sills, however, I'm looking into features that offer functionality. So, I'm considering changing the stock halogen headlights eventually, to either the aftermarket VLAND lights, or possibly the HID+DRL LED lights from the 2012 models (though this requires some modifications other than installing the headlights). My question is, is it possible to have the AFS feature on a car that does not come with it, and is it possible to wire an electric rear-view mirror, considering that the car only has a regular one. All feature recommendations are welcome. Thank you. Cheers
  6. I'm posting about this for a friend who is considering purchasing an IS250. He has found this one locally: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202103220458615?model=IS 250&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=Used&postcode=cw114qh&radius=1500&sort=distance&include-delivery-option=on&make=LEXUS&advertising-location=at_cars&page=1 It looks like a clean example to me. Any thoughts? Seller says he is open to offers and I always find it hard to value low mileage examples. He says he is open to offers. What do you think it is worth? Thanks all.
  7. Hope everyone is well! Greetings from the UK, I'm still fairly new to this group, I picked upa second hand Lexus IS250 fairly cheap and I'm mostly impressed. However, while driving the right exhaust came our of the centre pipe while driving and an inspection confirmed it had been welded, and quite a terrible job I might add! Anyway, I wondered if anyone has ever had to replace their exhaust or upgraded the standard stock exhaust and what you went for? Also, any suggestions as to where I might look? I have a Lexus IS250 2006, and the exhaust is a twin pipe coming from the centre. Any help appreciated!
  8. Hello everyone, I've been reading the forums for a while now regarding all kinds of topics concerning the IS 250, but I seem to have an issue that I have yet to find a solution to. I have an '06 IS250 with the navigation unit. I'm not from the UK, but I bought the car from there last summer. The issue I'm facing is that some of the climate control buttons are not working most of the time, I am referring to the ones seen here: https://prnt.sc/10iy5hr This is a pic I found on the net because I'm not near the car at the moment, however, the navigation unit is exactly the same as this one. The highlighted buttons are the ones that I'm having issues with. To elaborate further, the green indicator light and the buttons themselves do not light up when I turn on the lights at night. The Auto button and Rear heaters button will sometimes work, as long as the car is in working temperature. The Off and Front defog button will work very rarely, and the Circulation and Cabin vent buttons have never worked. I once had all the buttons light up at night, though this wasn't under any specific circumstance, they just simply lit up, though the Circulation and Cabin vent buttons did not work at all. Even when working, the green indicator or backlight do not light up. As far as I am aware, the previous owner had someone change the navigation touch screen because of issues and I guess that something may have been damaged during the assembly/disassembly. I'm ruling out a fuse as the issue, because if that was the case, the buttons would not be working at all (and I assume the entire navigation panel). I've researched a lot regarding this issue, though I have yet to find any information on this specifically, the issues I've read about were mostly all buttons not working, or the entire unit. Now, the AC works without any issues when controlled with the touch screen, but I obviously can't use all functions without the physical buttons and can turn the ventilation off only using the Voice command. Up until now I've just tested some basics such as removing the battery for half an hour, pressing the buttons under different angles, restarting the nav unit. I previously posted on a different forum and one member suggested that this can possibly be repaired, but would require taking out the navigation unit and taking pictures so that he can confirm. At this point, I'm rather reserved on taking out the entire unit for fear of damaging it and the dashboard. (The previous touchscreen repair has damaged the dashboard a bit, unfortunately). I've also checked on purchasing a new or second-hand unit, but the cost is quite high and would like to avoid it if possible. I'll be heading to a Toyota/Lexus dealership next week for a firmware update and some basic diagnostics and will make sure to ask them about this, though I would assume that they will suggest replacing the entire unit. I will greatly appreciate any provided information and suggestions on how to troubleshoot the issue without taking out the unit if possible. Cheers
  9. Hi All, I have a Windsor blue 2007 SE-L, bought it 2 weeks ago, love it! serious upgrade from the 2011 Avensis i had previously. I have a few issues however and one is that the driver side wing mirror doesn't fold in, i suspect it has been knocked severely and its broken the motor. So the question is it possible to buy one in the wrong colour and fit the motor or mechanism required to make it work to the existing one if you have limited but capable mechanical/electrical experience as i do, anyone have experience of that and if so was it a nightmare? or the more expensive and time consuming route of waiting for one in the right colour and fitting it whole? Thanks James
  10. Dear all, Recently bought an lovely little is250 SE-L. It came with stock 17-inch 10 spoke alloys. The tires are on their way out and the front wheels are curbed to buggery so I would like to get some replacements alloys and preferably something a little larger without going nuts and having to tinker with the car or upping my insurance too much. I was curious about the OEM options for this model as I'm a purest is there an 18-inch option? Sorry not being lazy but this place seems to be the best to get solid intel. Thanks James
  11. guys! i'm London based, planning to pick up an IS250 with 100000 miles and manual. what all problems shall i look for buying a used one, how's the reliability, what mpg's can i achieve and what's your insurance cost, i just crossed 20 so i know mine's gonna be hetic. PLEASE SHOOT GUYS.
  12. I just bought the is 250 and bought it knowing issues . Did a scan and came up with C1231 code Steering Angle sensor , also rear brakes binding but not sure if this is related as seller says it’s been sitting few months . Discs and pads look well down so probably a job anyhow to replace them all. Also central locking / smart key not working other than starting the car via push button start . I did get the car cheap so budgeted spending but don’t want to buy items that need not , thanks from a newbie Lexus owner
  13. I really wanna upgrade my exhaust. The stock one looks ugly, single pipe pointing to the ground.. Where could i get one?
  14. Hi! I'm new here and new to lexus in general but I fell in love with one the other day and I've not long just got back from London with my new car - really impressed! I sold my 3 series and managed to pick up a 2006 Lexus IS250 Mark Levinson on 143k miles with full stamped Lexus Service History, mechanically the car is a pleasure. For some reason though, the screen doesn't come on and lights aren't illuminated on the central console, looking online I can see this is a common issue, and can be quite costly! I paid £1200 which is great but it would be nice to have the centre system working, the guy I bought the car off has bought fuses so I'm assuming the fuses are okay, any idea what this could be? Radio still works, I can still see the clock etc, the bottom half of the console seems to work fine it's just the screen and a few buttons not illuminating. Any ideas? Thanks for reading and glad to.be here!
  15. I am buying a Lexus IS250 or IS220d. I live in Norway so I will not be paying more on one of the vehicles besides the actuall pay sum. So I can buy a stock 2007 IS250 or a 2007 IS220d with upgraded lightes (front and back), upgraded suspenison and comes with brand new tires. Also its a 4500£ price difference on these 2. So I know about the head gasket problems on the IS220d and the gear range on the gearbox. But are these problems big enough to close the price difference? Thanks!
  16. So today is time to say farewell to my much loved IS 250 second gen 56 Reg, and start a new journey with the IS 300H F Sport 63 Reg Would love to know what you all think. Thanks 🙏
  17. Hi everyone, New to this group! I am preparing to deliver my Lexus IS250 in Hong Kong to UK. Concerning the conversion to mph, is there a way to electronically change the settings or do I need to put in a new physical speedo? If so, do I also need to readjust the needle/ pin? Thanks.
  18. Hello All, Just did pre-service (at Halfords) of the pre-MOT pre-service. Few advisory items come up - rear brakes pads 8mm, one parking light bulb and failed 12v battery. No surprises there, knew that battery is not in best condition already - just nice to find out why. So the report says that battery failed, performance 0%, the cells shot and short, voltage - 10.29v. Funny enough as car is garaged both at home and where I work I have no issues with battery. Furthermore, it is Halfords own battery (some kind of Platinum with 4 years warranty) and Halfords doesn't want to fulfill their obligation to replace it under warranty. To be fair I don't have a receipt, but the battery is made only 2,5 years ago and fitted just over 2 years ago, quite obviously within the warranty. That said I decided not to replace it until it completely fails. However, already doing some research for the day of failure. My personal opinion is that battery is bit under powered for car with so much gadgets and especially mine being SEL just drains even more power, obviously living in UK have its own benefits e.g. no cold winters, so even cheap batteries last (or at least should). Based on all the information I though that I might go for Exide or Bosch. Cannot say much bad about Halfords, especially considering that it doesn't develop much issues even in such condition, but it is principal for me now not to get one from them, because I feel like their warranty is rather unfair .. Any other opinions or suggestions? Thanks in advance,
  19. Dear LOC members, I have been a secret reader of the club for a long time and it was always my dream to own a Lexus. Last week I finally bought a 2008 Lexus IS250 SE-L. As the previous owner did not service it for over a year, I brought it to one of the recommended garages in Colindale for a 60k service with spark plugs. In the afternoon, I received a call that the brake pads and disc were wearing unevenly which could point to a seized caliper. I read that this is a common issue on Lexus' in the UK. The quote to investigate, replace pad and disc and caliper was approach £500 which I thought was on the high side. I did some research on ECP and GSF and found that I could get 2 calipers (refurbished) and OEM quality pads and disc for significantly less. When researching brake Calipers, I noticed that the Piston Diameter were different. On ECP it is 57mm whereas on GSF it is 60mm. My question that I need help answering is what is the difference between 57mm and 60mm? Or is it a typo error base on your experience. Look forward to hearing from you! https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/pagid-caliper-13382302J https://www.gsfcarparts.com/parts/braking/brake-hydraulics/brake-caliper
  20. Hey Guys, I hope you are all well? I am looking for a car as a run around for a couple of months and my whole family have newer Lexus models, I am considering a used 2007/2008 Lexus IS 250. I have seen/read to stay away from the IS 220d models. Are there any common issues that I should look out for when considering an IS250? (ps I am looking at cars with under 70,000 miles on them) Thanks in advance, Thomas
  21. So I took the plunge and opted for the Grom VLine Lite system so I could take advantage of Apple CarPlay. I saw that no one has really bought the unit before and done an install so I decided to take it upon myself to see how easy it would be to install. Disclaimer* Apple CarPlay needs to be 'activated' once installed! Fairly simple; press on it 11 times. This is the box that arrives with the top lid opened. Above shows the connectors on the rear of the unit. On the left is the DisplayPort connector that will run to the head unit behind the screen. the connector on the right is for the power cable that will run to the bottom of the head unit. I haven't really seen a clear image of the front panel online so here we have HDMI IN, USB 1 (mainly for iPhones), USB 2 (mainly for Android and any other USB device), HDMI OUT, SD Card Port (below the HDMI OUT port), proprietary connector; used for connecting AUX, front facing camera, rear facing camera (not needed if you have the factory reversing camera as the car will still automatically default to the main reversing camera), GPS (again not needed if you're using Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze etc which will use your phone GPS), and an adapter for connecting a touch screen panel if your car wasn't fitted with a touch screen, then we have a Mic In port and the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antenna. The above image shows the power cable that will run to the OEM head unit and below that is the proprietary connector cable that connects to the various aux devices (it is not needed to run the Grom System and can be left out if not needed, such as in my case) The cable on the left with the blue connectors is the display cable, the cable in the middle is the USB extension cable and the cable on the right is the Mic cable. Above shows all the components of the kit laid out on the table awaiting installation. Probably the hardest part was trying to get the air vent out. The 4 tabs (that have been circled in the picture and can be slightly seen) need to be pulled down and then the vent assembly can be taken out with the help of some trim removal tools. I found a video on YouTube showing me how to do this and it can be quite tricky! Beneath the vent is a cable with two connectors that needs to be disconnected and removed before you can set the air vent aside. You then need to remove the 2 triangular plastic trim bits below which is super easy; just pull them towards you and they should pop out. Or use a pry tool! Use a 10mm socket with an extension to take out the two upper bolts holding in the head unit. Then move onto the two lower 10mm bolts holding in the head unit. If you're worried about dropping the bolts then you can always use a set of extension magnets. These were bought on Amazon and really came in handy. Clearly they came in use when trying to take the bolts out and placing them back in as my Halfords toolkit wasn't magnetised 😞 You can unscrew the gear knob and press the 'shift lock' button to move the gear into DRIVE and leave it there. I felt this helped but it's totally up to you. Lay down a cloth and bring the headhunt out and lay it down on the cloth. This is needed as the bottom of the headunit is short and will definitely scratch your trim if not used. The display cable is a Y shape cable, with one going into the Grom Unit and the other two behind the head unit. The cable has a male and female end. If there was something already inserted in your head unit(it's a blue connector so it can't be missed) then take it out and insert it into the female end of the Y cable, then insert the male end of the Y cable into the slot that's empty in the head unit. The picture should help clarify! The power cable is essentially the same sort of Y cable. In my case there was nothing plugged in so I just had to find the slot and insert the connector. Above shows the power cable connected to the head unit which was originally vacant. Above shows where I ran both cables so they could route into the glovebox. I decided to remove the passenger air vent so I could get access to the top of the glovebox. This is straightforward as it pulls straight out but be careful as there is a connector attached. For those of you who have changed your air filter, you know there is a panel at the rear of the glovebox that needs to be removed. On TOP of that cover is another cover that can be opened slightly to allow the cable to enter the glovebox. It's quite hard to see from the picture but the cables were routed into the glovebox and came in somewhere near the middle. Above shows approximately where the cables entered the glovebox. I should mention that this is where I found it easiest to run the cables. You may have a different opinion! Now would be a good time to run the microphone. I attached it to the ceiling, just behind the rear view mirror and ran the cable around the window. I opened the side air bag cover on the A pillar to run the cable down and tucked in in behind the rubber seals in the door and ran it through to the glovebox. Above shows the rear of the unit in the glovebox. It should be mounted so the display and power cables are facing the passenger door, and the USB cables should be facing the driver. I placed the unit on the glovebox divider and secured it down with double sided tape. Trust me; it's not going anywhere! Now would be a good time to do a test run. I turned on the car and pressed 'DVD' on the head unit and voila, it entered into the Grom system. I forgot to take a picture of the grom home screen, but Apple CarPlay was activated and works a treat. I shall hopefully do a review of the Grom system and Apple CarPlay if I have time or will make a video if I can find another camera. For £370 yes it is expensive even for such a basic system but or someone who uses Apple CarPlay a lot, I guess I can justify the price!
  22. So my Is250 sel is a 56 plate and I've decided to give it some subtle mods to keep it looking stock but up to date. I'm going for ISF feel but keeping the SEL eligence. A lip spolier has been ordered, the rear windows will get tinted, but I cant decide whether to change the rim colour to a light gun metal or keep it the same colour. Gun metal will make it look newer but I'm worried the rims will always look dirty as I dont think dark rims normally look as good on a black car. I'm keen to hear some imput on this dilema 🤔
  23. As title suggests. I have a shortlist of a few across AutoTrader, eBay and Gumtree but have been advised to look on the forums before committing to any. My current car (2016 Fiesta ST) is sold and Is being collected tomorrow (24/10/2019). I’m looking for an IS250 SE-L auto To buy this weekend. Does anyone know of someone thinking of selling or have one themselves? I have a self imposed budget of £3,000 and don’t mind travelling for a nice one. Any responses appreciated. Craig.
  24. Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the site so if this has already been covered I must apologise. I have recently bought a 2009 IS250 SE with 71k on the clock. After some research it seems like there can be a problem with sludge buildup in the engine and a catch can seems to be the best solution. Is there a definitive guide to installing one (which hoses to reroute etc) on the internet for a UK model? Thanks in advance, Ryan
