Hi Guys,

My car is due for the 80,000 service which ive booked in but i'm really not happy about it.

Lexus Edinburgh have quoted £581 incl. vat for the service!!!

I was quoted £299 incl. vat which includes mot by Bosch franchised service centre in kirkcaldy, however i have never used them and reviews are mixed when it comes to Bosch franchised service centres. This service is comparable to the price quoted above, it is better than the essential service suggested by lexus as the rear differential oil gets replaced.

I went back to Lexus Edinburgh with the figures from Bosch but Lexus Edinburgh wasn't interested, instead they then offered me the Lexus Essential Sevice for £299 + vat... However this only covers the basic and doesn't include air-con service or things life Read Differential Oil check/change.

I have emailed them to as how they can justify the quoted £581 compared to the essential plan.

Can anyone recommend any trustworthy garages (fife / Lothian and even glasgow) that will do the full manufacture service incl mot + air-con service + things like the rear differential oil change... and who wont rip you off or damage the car? :)

Yeah I did think of that but the problem is all the toyota dealers are part of the eastern western motor group ands lexus falls under the same umbrella so I don't think they will offer the service any cheaper... Infact last year when I needed the water pump replaced toyota deal quoted a price that was £60 more expensive than lexus!

Since it's outside of warranty, there's no point in going to a main dealer - you'll just pay a lot more.

The workshop I use is www.motorlineuk.co.uk/ (S.E. England) who advertise as dealing with classics and cherished. They're a little more expensive than some of the back street garages, but employ good mechanics and deal with quite a lot of high end (TVR/AMG/BMW M) cars from 2000+, so try searching for something similar to that locally.

Ouch, that'll knock a hole in your wallet. Not due for a service yet, but I'm still waiting on Lexus Edinburgh giving me the info on their service plans. So far they have said that they will send the details, but 3 months on and I'm still waiting. As others have said, I would be on the look out for a non franchised garage with a good reputation.

Lexus Croydon have quoted me £199 including VAT for the 80K service. They are saying it will be a major service.

It's booked for next week. We'll see how it goes.

Spark plugs only need to be done at 60K intervals. I had mine done at 60K so they aren't due for another 40K miles.

It includes some other stuff apart from the oil and oil filter change but I can't remember what it was.

Lexus Edinburgh:

Full Lexus 80k service covers:

The cost of the service on the day as per full manufactures specification including all parts, labour, brake fluid change, annual air-con service and vat is £581.91 and a further £54.85 for mot.

Lexus Edinburgh:

Lexus Essential Care service covers:

replace oil, oil filter, air filter, brake fluid and top up coolant

check lights, brakes, steering, suspension, pollen filter condition, tyres and adjust if required is £299 incl vat.

Lexus essential care does not cover thing like checking/changing rear differential oil and other thing, but Lexus Edinburgh wouldn't give me a straight answer on what the other thing were missing from it compared the "FULL" service!!

CB auto service:

Bosch franchised service:

Manufacturers specified 80k service covers:

oil change, oil filter,

air filter, pollen filter & changing rear differential oil, air conditioning

service and an MOT, all for the sum of £299.00.

In the end I didn't think it was viable going to Lexus Edinburgh anymore so I've booked myself into the bosch service Center in Kirkcaldy.

If that is all that is covered for an essential major service, they must do next to nothing for the £159 essential minor service

Is it not worth trying to play 2 dealerships off against each other.? I'm assuming there is a lexus dealership in Glasgow?

Problem is Lexus Glasgow is Western Lexus and Lexus Edinburgh is Lexus Eastern so they are part of the eastern western motor group so essentially they go hand in hand so no good... There is more competition down south which is why u guys are lucky down there up here it's a monopoly!

Carlisle had crossed my mind but it was gonna be a 2 hr drive each way and I would have had to hang about in Carlisle so I couldn't be bothered with that.

In the end I went to bosch cb auto service in Kirkcaldy. Very pleased with service.

They did the following;

Manufacturers spec 80k service

oil change (I specified 0w-30)

oil filter,

air filter,

pollen filter,

Changed rear differential oil,

air conditioning service,

MOT,

Engine flush (I requested it),

Clip back trim that was loose from underside,

Rear calipers loosened as they were seizing,

Usual health check (very through feedback),

Washed car and finally even gave me the left over Castrol 0w-30 oil they used for the service of my car.

All for £312 inc vat :)

Friendly and professional service, I will use them from now on and recommend them.

When I lived in St Andrews, I used to go to

Bassaguard Garage Ltd
68B Largo Rd
St Andrews KY16 8NJ
They were quite professional and quite busy as well. However, I don't think they'll give your car a valet.

If that is all that is covered for an essential major service, they must do next to nothing for the £159 essential minor service

oil and filter change then check tyres, lights and mats. Maybe give it a wash. The normal minor service doesn't really do anymore, just relieves you of more money.

Hi Exdee,

How did your 80K service go with Croydon?

There is a ex Lexus technician from Woodford that carries out work from him garage for anyone interested. He is based in Hainault but also comes to you for servicing.

It was fine. No surprise bills and given a clean bill of health.

Dealer service on a 07 car is probably not worth it as others have mentioned but I just went there for convenience.

You should post the details of this ex Lexus technician. Probably helpful for everyone (including him).

Water Pump: BluePrint ADT391103 = £84 KimberCarParts very good service and the cheapest.

Pink Super Long Life Coolant: £70 - Toyota eBay a company called SnowGroup. Lexus would be £80 so save £10 plus free delivery to your home

Labour is £100 but he is also fixing a clicking noise from my pads where s previous mech lost my clips. I got a rear brake fitting kit from US eBay Lexus Conocord for £29.

Last week he did a lower ball joint on drivers side at my home. Part supplied and fitted for £95 plus he did the work after I returned home from work 7pm.

Nice guy call him or save his number.
