  5. Makes me feel much better! A mere slip of a lad at 61. Happy Birthday.
  6. Thanks Dom, really appreciate you checking that out! Had a look at the rear filter just now and I think it has been changed at some point in the car's life. It seems to be charcoal filtered and doesn't seem to grubby but probably will be something I think about changing at a later date. Exploring more and more of what the previous owners have done to the car is leaving me quite baffled, they have added thick foam all throughout the boot and then covered the foam in some weird curtain material but none of it has been done to a particularly good standard so it's all loose and a bit bad. Gonna rip all of that out at some point and probably re-do it properly as it seems to have damaged the boot material sadly.
  7. I’m not surprised at that price Paul, as your RX is a MK3, and doesn’t suffer the MK4 prices as I presume your don’t have a canbus making it easy to nick?
  8. The newest episode of Car SOS features a Lexus IS200 that gets rebuilt into a drift car, complete with 600+BHP 2JZ. Next showing is on National Geographic tonight at 12am.
  9. Much to my surprise, after a chat with Lexus, and pressing for some discount, it seems all is not doom and gloom on purchase price and insurance. After mentioning canbus vulnerability, forecourt price dropped a little and using the car details I'm after, I was quoted £548 fully comp, total of £650 excess with all the usual add ons thrown in for the standard price (legal expenses, courtesy car, breakdown cover and personal injury cover). That also covered business use as well as sdp. That puts a very different slant on things. I don't consider £548 massively excessive for a car which is a few years old and it seems a heck of a lot cheaper than some folk on here have been quoted, so possibly a post code thing.
  10. My son in law resprays elderly cars professionally …… he’s being doing it for decades …… and asks me “ what can you expect at this age “ It’s quite normal and generally expected he advises on such aged original bodywork Cest le vie What I do know is the moment I spend £££££ on expensive bodywork issues there’ll be some almighty wallop to undo the good ……. not sure I want to tempt providence tbh 🤔 Malc
  11. Being my first Lexus I found this interesting so over the years you think the current generation or newer model has declined in quality compared to its previous generations?
  12. Re: Max Range. Could it be low simply because the car is brand-new? I believe the range is calculated on recent historical average MPG, so the range will probably increase over time. If 53mpg becomes the norm, the range should be in excess of 400mls.
  13. I had the same thing on a GS300. Only the Lexus part seemed to solve the issue. I had a service plan so at least got some discount as at the time a new TPMS sensor was £284 for that one.
  14. Update FYI. Further investigation finds exactly what Lloyd confirmed last October. The pipe that both Charlie & I highlighted fronts the a/c condenser and doesn't carry coolant. It is in fact a cracked radiator spraying coolant from behind. New radiator needed, as Lloyd found out ... now it's my turn! 😪
  15. I tried negotiating down the forecourt price of a 2022 RX4 which was on at top dollar price, but the dealership wouldn't budge an inch and was clueless about affects on value recognised by non franchised dealerships on value of used RX4's. Here's an example. Both 2022 models, one a Takumi (non franchised) and one an F-sport (Takumi pack) from a franchised dealer. The Takumi was immaculate, only 10K miles and was on for £36K with mine close on 17K part ex as an offer. The F-sport had 14K miles and the franchised dealer wanted 6K more and offered less for mine. I was astonished at the reluctance or ignorance about insurance premium hikes and canbus vulnerability hitting used values by the Lexus dealership. I told them that. They, I believe, will discuss it with their tech team and come back to me with a better offer. It's a buyers market and no RX4 is currently worth top book value as whole life costs are so badly hit by the vulnerabilities. Anyone wanting to buy one and run it for at least 5 years is advised to bargain hard or look elsewhere as great offers exist...just not with Lexus dealerships it seems.

  17. They may well have a Thatcham category 1 fitted but that hasn't stopped them from being stolen, so i dont really see the point in them
  18. Hey, don't see many IS250s in Brum, especially as clean as yours, pre-facelift right? Love the headlights too, will definitely consider getting something similar for when I get mine. I don't mind the mileage, my F10 has around 170k and it runs as if it's under 50k. I won't go for a manual since I'm tired of changing gears especially in city traffic and I like paddle shifters too much to go for a manual now. I tend to retrofit a lot of things on my cars and I was thinking of going with a 2007 model and just retrofit the side mirrors since that's the only reason I'd prefer a facelift model, but is that actually possible without too much hassle? There's only a small handful of IS250s around Birmingham, most being SE-Ls, one which hides a nasty subframe which was once rusted off completely going for £2.700 and the guy is trying to picture it as being mint, 2 grey ones which are ok and a really nice 2010 black one but they're asking £4.200 and looks a bit too clean for that price since from what I've seen they go for around £6-7k which is why I'm a bit hesitant in going for one for my measly £3k budget. Also, road tax seems to be around £420 a year, around £37 a month which isn't a problem.
  19. Has anyone got a decent set of these for sale
  20. Hey guys, it's that time when I need to change the oil and filters on this baby. What do you use for oil? I am thinking going OE for the oil, but I am having a contradiction with a buddy - I am saying I need 0w20, he says it's 5w20. Anyone to back me up? 😄 Oh, and I also need your help with something - around New Year's eve I had to replace the regular 12V battery (not really, but I did it anyway...) which I did, with OE and the dealership near me. But, somewhere along the way, I am now locking the car but the mirrors don't fold anymore... What could be the cause? I'm not saying that is precisely when it started to happen, I just noticed it a few weeks ago. L.E. I found this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001078898507.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.11.785aWRQwWRQwrH&algo_pvid=1564881f-08c9-46bf-83a5-b01034c92cae&algo_exp_id=1564881f-08c9-46bf-83a5-b01034c92cae-5&pdp_npi=4%40dis!RON!286.80!220.82!!!60.68!46.72!%402101e54417156071605848996e4601!10000014377334550!sea!RO!791788750!&curPageLogUid=h1znW1QYNfVn&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A - did anyone install it? It feels weird that Lexus would not install it by default...
  21. Thanks for the warm welcome 🙂. Electronic vehicle theft was also an issue with my 3 series - multiple reports of thefts using a laptop to mimic the key fob and unlock the car (thankfully never happened to me). I'm hoping Lexus do offer the option to have that protective plate installed at some point - I'm happy to pay a small fee to get it done if they don't offer it as a recall. I had a look at that website - for £500 you can install an invisible device which allows the thief to damage your front wing/wiring, attempt the hack, get into the car and then find it won't start. They'll obviously then go, leaving you with having to claim through your insurance. Alternatively, don't spend £500, thief does the same and makes away with your car - leaving you to still deal with your insurance. Surely you don't want such deterrent's to be "invisible" - I personally would like gigantic window stickers telling them to not waste their time... Not if I hardwire it in which I intend to do at some point (yes it'll be trickier than the front but not impossible). Both cameras can record either via G-sensor or snapshots whilst parked so no worries there 👍 (although I take your point that nothing is guaranteed - I've had friends who've had parking mode enabled and still didn't catch a number plate on camera). What we need is 360deg cameras on all car's not just Lexus NX's.
  22. Here are their preferred customers in these iron boxes.
  23. Just did my wife's. Front camera is 4K:30 using a 5A piggy back fuse to the 15A wash wipe fuse (GPS coord blanked out but it supplies both position and speed via GPS 👍) Rear camera is separate and plugged into rear cig lighter is FHD:30 Very happy with it and cost £42 for the 4K front facing and nil extra (already owned) the rear facing camera (slightly cheaper overall than the £450 quoted by Lexus)
  24. £150 sounds probably less expensive than having your existing alternator refurbished / rewound maybe 🤔 Double check it’s the correct one tho’ ……. just in case ! Good luck Malc
